UGREEN is also running a $12 coupon right now on Amazon along with their sale price, bringing the price down to $89 (good through 28NOV): amzn.to/3Afo1uV
Wtf is this lol? It says 140w, those consoles like anbernic require only 5W 2A chargers, you're just gonna murder your battery very fast if you use this too powerful charger LOL.
As I launched this video to listen to on my way to work, I literally said out loud, “Man, I’m glad that Russ does this sort of work so I don’t have to.” I’ve been wondering about the different bricks and would love to get your takeaways from your testing. Keep it up, Russ!
This is a video that needed to be made, chargers are a right minefield these days with almost no devices coming with them anymore and most of the brands being relative unknowns, thank you Russ!
I got that Acefast after you had it on the portable monitor video and I’ve never looked back. The HDMI built in functionality is the differentiator there. I use it for the Steam Deck, Switch and even my work laptop with external monitor for dual screen setup when I’m working from the hotel. It really is the bed for my use case.
If you're buying one of those, don't forget to use the links in the descsription to support this gentleman for the incredible effort he puts into these quality reviews! Thank you so much Russ!
I love all my Anker products, but I purchased the UGREEN (100W) charger and it was worth every penny. Being able to have one charger for all of my portable stuff (including my laptop) has been amazing. I was able to get it on sale too, so that's always a plus. I also wish every charger came with a charging guide.
Love the video! I've dove down a rabbit hole of charging bricks myself with all the innovation coming around here. It's nice to see a great video about the subject! Anker has always been my ride or die for their quality. But i've tried some other brands like AOHi and Ugreen that i've really liked. I have that same Anker adapter i keep in my backpack with a nice 90degree cable to charge my work laptop on the go along with my phone. I also have the AOHi 120w 4 Port desktop charger. It became my bedside charger for my steam deck in bed, Laptop and phone. Plus, the cable keeps it clutter-free behind my dresser. would recommend!
The Acefast also lets you use the USB A port for data as a hub which lets you charge the steam deck while having another usb connection. I use it for my wireless headphone dongle along with the hdmi and it works great.
I purchased the Shargeek 100w brick with the storm 2 power bank during the last random Amazon day sale for the price the power bank by itself would have cost. I mostly liked the aesthetics since the bright yellow brick matched the yellow details on the see thru power bank, but what sold me on them is that they both deliver the full 100w output instead of adding up the watts out every single port which is what most power banks/bricks do
Don't forget about the improvements with GaN (Gallium Nitrite I believe) chargers. It provides better efficacy and longer lifespan, resulting in less e-waste.
I've been playing games on my break at work with mt 8bitdo controller. My coworkers have taken notice and Ive guided all of them to your channel in particukar for retroarch/andeoid set up guides. :)
I have an eHO P310A. 100W total charging with 3 usbc and 1 usba ports on a really compact body. Works really well for me as I usually have one device that needs a sizeable charge, plus a number of smaller devices that may need a top-up. But I can also use it To charge my laptop at 100W of I need to. Plus it supports 45W PPS for Samsung phones. Available for $56 right now. I was initially a little concerned that it may be too cheap for its own good. But it has worked well as my one-charger travel solution for 6 months.
I kind of miss the 120W anker one that is just slightly larger than the 65W one. Charging a handheld is quite similar to general charging on-the-go for me, and the Anker 120W is very compact for its power and imo the best one to get today. ESPECIALLY since it's only 10$ more than 65W on aliexpress these days.
Late to the party here, but I keep an Anker PowerCore Fusion brick in my EDC bag. 10k mAh battery, 20w USB C, and USB A charging. Charges of any outlet when not in use. I can charge pretty much all of my stuff that I keep with me at any time, but still small enough to keep in my bag.
Some USB knowledge for people. USB chargers have certifications that validate the products quality. Look at the USB-IF certified product search. Of the products he has here, only anker is on that list, take that as you will. Some more random details. The label "PD" is a fast charging protocol that allows the device and brick to communicate and then the brick will change its output voltage to enable the fast charging. This is only available on USB-C ports. The output voltage can range from 5V to 20V. Lastly, in almost all scenarios having a brick with two much wattage available will not hurt the device. The device will only draw as much wattage as it needs to. So a 140W charging brick can be fine for a device only needing 5W. Do note though that many retro handhelds dont have fast charging and only accept USB-A to USB-C at 5V 1A.
My only complaint with the UGREEN is that it slips out of the wall socket too easily. It was fine when the contacts were facing down, but a vertical wall outlet was impossible to use unless you left the devices right where they were plugged in. I've since switched over to an Anker 733 (With the built in battery) and it turned out alright as my all-in-one device. The only complaint on that is it only delivers 30W in battery mode.
My miyoo mini is not charging correct. I am using old Android charger brick. I think the battery calibration is broken. Please guide me. Also are the LEDs on top supposed to change when fully charged?
This video make me wish Xiaomi or Oppo also join retro handheld market with "120 watt super fast charging" that can fill entire battery just in 10 minutes 😁
Huh, I've used the Anker brick for a while, but not only is the Ugreen one down to $101, but there's an additional 12 dollar off coupon on amazon. Not sure if it's because I'm a prime member. The HDMI out functionality is GREAT when you travel, though. Just plug it into a HDMI port on the tv, connect it to the brick, and BAM.
I was curious, could I use the very last charging adapter to charge up my miyoo mini plus. I have something similar for my laptop and phone, but could I use the last subs port to charge my MMP well?
I found a brand on ALiexpress called Aohi that has really well priced and really compact GaN chargers. I've bought a few of them and they're legitimate and work very well. A tiny little cube can charge my laptop at 65W, supporting all charging standards, even the PPS for Samsung phones' "super fast charging".
Hey Russ, was wondering if you were interested in reviewing power banks as well, ie. the sort of power reservoir you could use to charge a handheld whilst camping for a weekend etc?
Unfortunately that's hard for me to cover, shipping restrictions for batteries to Hawaii prevent me from being able to buy any battery banks from Amazon or AliExpress. My only access to them are via big box stores like Best Buy (and even then, only what's available at the store).
I'd say the Genki Covert Dock, it's well worth the $50 or so that you spend on it, it's a quick charger, and it can stream audio and video from your phone or Nintendo Switch to your TV! Okay, it's the same basic idea as that AceFast one...
Hi Russ, thank you for the great content as always! It may be a bit silly but i would like to ask if there could be any issue if I frequently charge a Nintendo switch using a Steam Deck charger. I've never tried it but it would be really cool to ditch the big Nintendo charger.
In the AceFast setup with the steamdeck and 8-bit-do controller, where is the 2.4ghz dongle plugged into? I'm finally getting around to buying a steamdeck and already wanted that controller so the charger seems like a nice way to avoid buying the dock too!
So I got the RG35XXSP coming in. It says on anbernic website, that it takes 5v 1.5a. Should I find power brick that matches that or get a 5v 1a instead? Also can I use any USB A to C cable or does it have to be the one that came with it?
I would not use the SD charger with anything that requires a 5V/1A input like retro handhelds. You want something with a USB-A to USB-C cable connection. So if you have the SD dock you could plug the USB cable into the dock to then charge the device.
i usually go the cheaper route and sometimes it's good sometimes bad. but for now, i got lucky and found a $10 45watt "samsung" brick with single usb c to use with my steam deck and battery pack. it performs exactly like official steam deck charger, only difference is the removable cable. for everything else, i use a $5 20watt charger that can fast charge everything else i own (phone, tablets, switch). ther battery pack does support 65watt input charge, so i might pick up a 65watt brick later, but for now, the 2 45watt chargers are sufficient. also, i keep my switch charger at work since it charges the deck just fine, but could not fast charge anything else.
I use a Rav Power PD Pioneer. It has a single 45 watt USBC port and four 10 watt -that's 5 volts/2 amps-USBA ports. I can use that to charge and power my steam deck while I also charge my phone, my tablet, and Any other handheld that I need to charge. It also has a long cord that will fit into just the 1 socket that you plug it into so it doesn't take up more space than that On your wall outlet. Steam deck is my most power hungry device so that's solution works perfectly for me
My problem with finding a good charger is locating one that has enough ports to charge everything. I charge my iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad Mini, wireless earbuds, and Switch Lite at home and have chargers everywhere. I keep my Switch OLED docked so it uses the charger it comes with. I need one that will charge at least 4 devices at once lol
Do you recommend the Ayeneo 2? I'm scared to spend $1000 on a device and it breaking, how is their customer service? Are they going to leave out to dry if the device breaks or do they have excellent service like Valve and it's steam deck?
What's that last game head playing? Also Baseus and TeckNet have some great chargers for good pricing on Amazon too. The 100W I have from Baseus is great
There is a lot of confusion out there, for example on r/ANBERNIC, where people are quite unsure about chargers potentially damaging their devices. Oftentimes those things are stated as facts or claims without proper sources. The documentation is insufficient and "measuring" it is beyond the capabilities of most. Many statements are contradicting. Some say they use their MacBook-charger, some say anything beyond 5V/1A potentially "fries the unit". If possible in anyway, it would be awesome to have some reliable source for referencing. Maybe you could leverage contacts, if they exist, for example to Anbernic, to get good information.
I love your videos always so informative. What about the Miyoo Mini+? I'm not sure what to use to charge it. So far using a portable travel charger with an iPhone 1amp output as people were saying using more than 1amp would damage the Miyoo Mini+. Is that true or would it be safe to use something more like up to a 2amp output? Thanks.
I have a million charging bricks... But wow the Anbernic 351v is so finicky when it comes to charging. I swear I've only found one brick that actually charges the thing! Anything other than the exact 5v 1A brick, and it's a no (5v 2a or other amps never work for me).
There is a new Kickstarter with a 270w charger. 3 USB c 2 USB. Best for travel. It can charge my laptop 140w my phone 45w and my camera, go pro and accessories at the same time. Check it out. Good price too
Of all the chargers on the planet, I would recommend avoiding the Switch charging bricks. They don't fit standard specifications and don't work well with anything except those devices.
Ideally an RP2+ should be used with a 5V/2A charger, but it may be that your Chromebook charging adapter is smart enough to know how much juice to provide.
If you buy the ugreen be sure you buy one of their usb-c cables too. If yo don't have a proper cable you won't get the fun power of the brick. They're not too expensive, but they don't come with one out of the box.
Good point, I meant to mention that the 140W brick I tested for this video does indeed come with a cable, which is kind of rare with these setups. The AceFast comes with one too, which is actually a video-capable USB-C cable, also rare.
Good to know, I bought an Onn one from Walmart that has type c-type c fast charge which does not charge my rg351m at all or do anything but a slow charge for my phone. Thankfully the type a port does work for my device and I just use my older phone brick with my new phone for fast charge. Moral of the story don't waste $20 on Onn garbage
I was thinking, wow what a cool game and when I rushed to Steam I realized it was already in my library. I think I got this from the Humble Ukrainian Bundle earlier this year and never played it yet.
@@glennshoemake4200 I'm not sure where I picked it up either, but yeah it's pretty neat! I has some pretty deep combat mechanics for being a beat 'em up game.
I literally just use my Switch charger or my Kindle charging cable plugged into the USB out on my (overpriced but very good) power strip. For a portable power bank I have a RAVpower 16800+ if I recall correctly which I use for literally everything. I figure if it's strong enough to power my Switch (which it is) then it's plenty powerful enough for other devices like my phone and emulator. I'm going to bed but I just got the notification for this video, so I wanted to type this all out and let it run as much as possible to get you some TH-cam retention time and comment for engagement, I'll watch it tomorrow when I have time.
The stock Steam Deck charging brick from Chicony has an output of 15V/3A, which is 45W altogether. The dock also works with the charger, but because power is distributed by the dock for other tasks like HDMI and the other three USB-A ports, it likely doesn't charge the Steam Deck at a full 45W, so it won't charge as quickly as if you were to just plug the Deck directly into the charger.
There is a subtext here that really needs to be called out. The reason you even have to have this video is that these devices do not support USB PD. If they did, they'd just automatically have compatibility with every USB C charger out there, and we wouldn't even need to bother checking compatibility beforehand.
UGREEN is also running a $12 coupon right now on Amazon along with their sale price, bringing the price down to $89 (good through 28NOV): amzn.to/3Afo1uV

Is there any problem charging retro gaming with the 100w?
Honestly I'm just glad to see a spotlight on how fast charging will fry thrse things, I've seen multiple people fry these things.
I have that Anker 65w GaN charger and it's been amazing for traveling since it can full charge my steamdeck + other items and it's super small

What game is he playing on the Minis Forum computer?
Oh crap sorry, I usually try to label everything but I forgot that time. The game is called Shing!
@@RetroGameCorps Awesome, thanks for answering. I thought it looked cool and I have never heard of that one.
@@dumblebo3873 came here for this, thanks!
The steam that does not require 45 Watts, the steam that comes with a 25 watt charger, the same charger is also supposed with the dock
If they did, they'd just automatically have compatibility with every USB C charger out there, and we wouldn't even need to bother checking compatibility beforehand.
is that a digital calculator watch? future is here man!!
Best way to charge your device is with a power bar that comes with usb ports. 2 years zero issues.
Dont leave Anker products laying around at work!!! Very easy to vandalize by adding a W with a sharpie!!!
I just charge them with my PC
I'm guessing this is only a problem for people in North America?..
I just use my phone charger lol
And here comes Europe.... Ahhh....
