I have had the full size PX 4 Storm in 40 S&W now for about two years and have run 2,000 + rounds through her without a single stoppage, using all types of ammo including lots of hand loads. I replaced the decocker levers with the stealth levers and converted to decock only. Changed the stock hammer spring with the Langdon #12 lb silicone and dropped in the Langdon competition trigger group. D/A pull is very smooth, crisp and clean. Talon grip tape keeps it glued in my hand with the snappier 40 cal. It really didn't need the new trigger group as it made very little difference. the stock trigger is really smooth straight out of the box and wouldn't spend the money again. The most accurate and reliable pistol I own. ( Sorry Glock fan boys, but yes, more reliable than my 17 or 19.) Absolutely love this pistol. With two 17rd/mags available and it comes with two 14rd/mag. Plenty..I was going to order a FN MRD FDE 5.7x28 or the S&W 5.7? Going this route now. PEACE
Great video! The rotating barrel does mitigate muzzle flip especially with the .40 s&w and .45 acp calibers. The DA trigger is smooth & heavy but the travel is too long even for a duty weapon. Once in single action it’s good for combat effective groups and IDPA.
I bought an old D Model (Double Action Only) used police Px4 years ago in .40 S&W. It was different than anything else I had used till then. Rough looking but ran faultlessly. I've since gotten the more standard format and a Cx4 too. Very much like them. Beretta sells the D model hammer/main spring, which can be switched out for the standard spring. Drops the double & single action trigger pull weight a bit for less than $10. Worthwhile switch.
I bought a Compact PX4 9mm, and switched out the parts to make it the same as a Compact Carry. I then bought a Compact Carry version, and then sold them both to Frank Jr. The converted PX4 shot better than the from the factory Compact Carry, but just a little. I wasn’t totally convinced about the looks, but then saw Bruce Willis use on in Die Hard 4. How can you argue with that? 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Frank, I believe that's the only movie in which he used the PX4 (along with a few other guns). He seemed to favor the 92, as he used that in a dozen or so movies. He has used some really nice guns, so I wouldn't question his taste - except when he used a S&W Sigma. Oh, and the couple times he used a Taurus PT92, but I guess that's close enough to his Beretta 92.

That was a good review. I am thinking about getting this gun in 45ACP. I already have a Beretta 92 Compact Inox in 9mm. I really like that pistol. Very accurate.
This was one of my first big boy guns. For the longest time i thought "this gun shoots too low, i need new sights". Well as you can guess the sights were fine. but that 40sw paired with the far rear break on the trigger it leads to a bit of anticipation. Fast forward quite a few years later. Its shoots a little high. PIstols are fun like that. I got mine lightly used in the compact for 420 dollars. wont part with it anytime soon.
I had an opportunity to shot a PX4 9mm Compact pistol. I was admiring this pistol at the range from the person shooting next to me. We engaged in conversation, and he was interested in trying out my CZ P10C pistol. We both walked away thinking that they were both fine firearms. I did have get use to the sights on Beretta since it shot low for me.
I love mine. Great shooting pistol. I also own the Browning Highpower in 40. The Px4 is a better shooting gun. The Browning fits my hand better and was my EDC . Went with the Beretta because of the DA/SA trigger and mine is the (G model ) decock only. Safer and goes boom when you pull the trigger. No safety to fool with in a high stress situation, just goes boom. I go to the range regularly, I constantly see people try to fire their weapon and nothing happens, then they realize that they forgot to release the safty. I carried revolvers for years and the D/A trigger doesn't bother me.
David, thank you for watching and adding your thoughts. I shot three different .40 pistols side-by-side - the PX4, a Beretta 96 and a Sig P229 - to see what, if any, differences there were in handling and recoil. (Video in the near future.) The PX4 felt the best in my hand (subjective).
I have short fat fingers and the Browning Highpower fits my hand better because the grip is thinner. The Px4 is harder for me to reach the trigger, ( which is a common complaint for the Beretta 92) even with the small backstrap installed. The Browning shoots softer, even in the 40, I believe because of the rotating barrel. Also, to me my px4 is ugly, but the way it shoots is beautiful. Thanks for the video

Is the PX4 suitable for carry in and firing from the "half cock" position like the Sig P226 and the HK USP Compact? Some reviewers of this Beretta have said they would not carry or operate the gun from the half cock position.
The answer is no. All operating instructions are spelled out in the owners manual.Once fully decocked it can be carried in double action or with safety on.
@@williamryan9195 The operating manual of my first production PX4 says not to carry in half cock, but, it does not explain why it can't when it is ok for the HK USP and Sig p 226 to be carried in half cock. Is it that no one will admit the HK and Sig are better engineered pistols?
@@brianshuler6951 If the manual says not to then It is safe to say it's probably not safe and of no benefit or both. I don't see the upside to doing something the manual states not to do whether it offers an explanation or not. I suggest calling Beretta and get more info. My current carry is the M9 IWB. I carry de-cocked safety off. I would go the same way with the PX4.
Craig, I'm sure it depends on the CX. I have the P01 Omega (Cajunized) and the double-actions between my CZ and Beretta are about the same, though the Beretta may fell just a little better due to the wider trigger face. However, the follow-up shots in single-action seem to be better with my CZ.
Craig, I should have paid more attention to your original question, rather than concentrating on the trigger. I haven't found much that beats the overall feel of the CZ. The grip angle and contour is second to none - this coming from a 1911 guy. And the CZ seems to be a little slimmer than the Beretta. I think the PX4 Storm shoots a little flatter than my CZ, but overall, I prefer the CZ.
@@RidersRange that's alright. I love all my cz's and I love the 1911 platform, even though I am less accurate with any 1911's. There is just something about them that draws me to it. But anyway, thank you for your time.
Thank you for sharing ... how is the recoil compared to the glock 30sf? (I can recognize your voice from a mile away .. I was doing some work and only listening and I thought to myself ... man that voice sounds familiar!) :)
Thank you for watching and commenting. I haven't done a side-by-side with the PX4 and G30, so anything I can offer would only be a guess that the PX4 manages recoil a little better. I think this is an excuse to take both out to the range. Others have said I have a distinctive voice. Have we met?
@@RidersRange Ha! Not in person ... only by me listening to your G30SF review ... but I did remember the distinctive voice from the review ... you also have a new subscriber ... keep up the great work ...
I don't know about after-market, but I've seen Beretta brand mags for the PX4 .40S&W from several sources, including direct from Beretta, for around $33.
Billy, it's been a while since I shot a 229, but I don't recall it shooting as smooth as the PX4, particularly considering the relatively high bore axis of the Sig. I carried Glock 22, 23 and 27 before I retired and those polymer frame guns are much more snappy than even the Sig. My Kahr K40 might come close to the PX4.
@@RidersRange thank you sir. The Sig has a high axis on paper but it is about equivalent to a 1911 or a 92 FS or px4. I need to get out there and shoot one of these. Would you say that the rotational part of the recoil is mitigated by the rotating barrel? Every pistol twists a little on recoil due to the rifling. 1911s twist opposite because of the opposite direction of the rifling. I wonder whether the PX4 more or less recoils straight up and down. Thank you again. Agree about Glock. I was used to a 1911 when I first shot one and I immediately said nope. Low bore axis or not the only good thing about them is accuracy and reliability and carry ability. :) The shooting part is just not fun at all.
Billy, now you got me thinking. I don't own a P229, but I may be able to borrow one. I do have a couple 1911s in .40, so maybe a side-by-side is in order. I know that there is some rotational force, at lease in theory, but I can't say that I've ever actually noticed it in any pistol.
@@RidersRange Good deal! I’d love to hear your range report on this. Yes there is always a bit of twist; when trying to get right back on target fast it becomes obvious. It definitely doesn’t go straight up. Wish all pieces had 1911 left hand twist but they don’t. Do wonder what px4 has on that note. Presume right is needed to twist barrel left. A 40 1911... if modern capacity, the ultimate. Love to know what that is... Les Baer? P229 has an srt kit that is mighty close to 1911 feel in single action if backstopped. My biggest criticism of DA/SA is that many (like the px4) don't have thumb safeties. This makes cond.1 carry unsafe unless it has a safety (like the HK 23.) You can use DA/SA guns w/ safeties just like you can use SAO guns if you choose. Plus you will have with the added option of cond 2 firing minus thumb cocking.
The whole idea of DA/SA is so one can carry the gun in the equivalent of "Condition Two", but absent the safety. Those who want to carry in "Condition One" generally opt for a single-action only pistol. Thanks for watching.
@@RidersRange You're absolutely right. I don't really see the need for thumb safety in double action like the PX4F has. I had a px4 myself and liked it, but I never used DA. . I do remember wishing it had a SA safety option though.

Wheeled, I still haven't shot, or even handled, a Grand Power. I need to try one at some point.
@@RidersRange I bought one on gunbroker. I got the striker and wanted the DA/SA it was smooth. Both are the size of a g19. I almost got the Bald&Curious Excalibur for $550 at my range used. I think it is striker fire but can't remember. They do have good triggers and well made.
@@WheeledandWellArmed I think TheFireArmGuy has a Grand Power - maybe more than one. I'll have to ask him to bring one next time he comes out this way.
@@RidersRange Good idea. 👍
Question I bought a 1000 rounds of 9mm 115gr and the box looked small and weighted 16lbs. When I put it in the skinny ammo can it came between 66% and 75%. I guess I have to count it? Is there a chart? Or how many 115gr = lbs? Suggestions?
If you are talking just 115gr bullets, not cartridges, 1,000 should weigh 16.43 pounds, not counting packaging. If you are talking cartridges, 1,000 should weigh in the neighborhood of 27 pounds (Including packaging), unless they are aluminum case.
This is gonna be my next purchase but I gotta wait for 30 days, I just got my Glock 19 and now want a .40 cal next.
Waiting periods are a bummer.
🤣 only a little longer than you have been around. Don't worry I remember when dirt was invented too.
Kevin, I am getting old, but it sure beats the alternative. Thanks for watching.
@@RidersRange my uncle at 69 years old told me his secret when I was 10. He said stay aunry you'll live forever. He made it to 102. I'm 44 and live by his words of wisdom. R.I.P. uncle Eugene.
Wonder if it would be a little easier to shoot for longer distance accuracy if it had a 4-1/2" or 5" barrel?
The longer sight radius always helps with accuracy. The PX4 is certainly accurate enough for what it's intended. Thanks for watching.
site radius doesn't mean crap
Is the PX4 suitable for carry in and firing from the "half cock" position like the Sig P226 and the HK USP Compact? Some reviewers of this Beretta have said they would not carry or operate the gun from the half cock position.
I'm not sure I' carry ANY gun in a half-cock position. Either cocked and locked, or fully de-cocked.
In your opinion, how does it compare to a cz p-01? Obviously different calibers, but in size, etc. Just curious. I really like sa/da with decocker.
@@RidersRange I was more concerned about physical size and feel. Sounds like it is very similar in most respects. Thanks Harley
Are there any after market magazines for the .40???
I don't know about after-market, but I've seen Beretta brand mags for the PX4 .40S&W from several sources, including direct from Beretta, for around $33.
@@RidersRange the 17 round mag right???
@@godson8270 the .40 mags for the PX4 are 14-round. The 17-round CX4 mags also work.
Thanks bro I appreciate the help bt 1 more question....will I be able to fit a Smith and Wesson drum in there???
@@godson8270 the answer to that is outside my area of expertise. Sorry.
Nice work. What other .40s would you say shot as or nearly as smoothly? Ever used a p229?
Hope you’re enjoying retirement. Many thanks for doing your job out there.
@@jaycee30865 I still like pistols in .40 cal. I carried a G27 on and off duty for most of the final 10 years of my LE career (mostly driving a desk, but I still had to qualify and I did make it out into the field on a regular basis). I also did a comparison of two Commander-size 1911s in .40 - STI Duty One and Rock Island. (Part 14 of my Great Affordable 1911 Series.) And I just borrowed the Sig P229 from a friend. I hope to get it out to the range this weekend.
Nice review
Thanks for watching.
Oh wait this is the full size, I thought it was the compact.
Oh, well. Thanks anyway for watching.
People who complain about the safety on the 92 are people not used to using a 92.
Like the Glock fanbois always say, you just need better training.
Train with what you carry. Thanks for watching.
very nice

Guns N BBQ, thanks for watching.
I will never understand when real gun people which this guy clearly is, who like glocks. They're trash, but people love them. I like lots of pistols, I'll only own baretta Walther, or Colt, but i like browning and sigs, but i will never pay my own money for a glock.
There are Glock haters and Glock lovers. I'm in between, even though I carried a Glock of one model or another for the final 24 years of my LE career (Department mandate for part of that time). Thanks for watching.
Beretta has been around longer than you??????? LOL
scott, they do have me beat by a few years, or so my grandkids would like to think.
@@RidersRange Its OK ,Im older than you!!!
BARRETTA should make this gun in 357 Sig, which in my opinion is more powerful, flater shooting, and more accurate. Than is the 9mm, 45ACP, or the S&W 40 caliber.
