Im hopefully picking up my very first Jag on 02/09/23 and it is an XFR. I'm happy i watched this because i now know what i need to get done to the air flow system of the car. If i get it that is. This was good fun to watch, what made this video better for me was the fact that i got to hear the difference between the 2 models.
Remember, it’s not a real XFR-S, it’s actually a 2010 XFR that has the front end replaced to make it look like an XFR-S So they’re exactly the same, just different exhaust. Did you see my exhaust choir video? Lots of different examples with different sounds on that.
@@69racer69 Also, what are these cars like to live with and how are they reliability wise? Everything for mine has gone through and you are now talking to a new 2012 XFR owner. Once i pick it up ill be doing a quick live video of it.
@@TobyRay45 I’ve had 2 and really haven’t had any reliability issues. Obviously you’ll get the normal wear and tear items go, and remember with the year that rubber parts do perish and break pads and discs wear with use, you’ll be amazed when people moan about having to replace things like that. The batter needs to be made sure it’s in good shape otherwise the alternator is out under stress, the same as any modern car with lots of electronics in it.
Mate keep up the good work a used to own an xfr sold it last year unfortunately and regret it ever since so might have to buy another, Try straight pipes at the rear deleteing the backboxs it sounds like thunder.
Ahhh man, I know how you feel, it took me 2 yrs before I caved in a bought my 2nd XFR. I can’t get rid of the boxes completely, need to take it in the motorway without ear plugs 😂
@@69racer69 lol. it's not too bad tbh as long as you keep mid box in a so no drone I done it and it brings chills up your spine. Going through a tunnel is epic and I even set off someone car alarm in an underground car park, just unbolt the spires backboxs to check out the sound when u have some spare time trust me it make idle wobble like it has a wild cam. Dam I watch ur vids and miss my xfr, or the great white shark as I called it.
I had the rear pipe's deleted, a few month's back. I love the aggressive sound. Only problem is, it may get annoying on the moterway, hearing the exhaust, pop and bang to much. But it's a good way to wake up the neighbour's 😂😂😂
I have a 14 plate XFR and going full Spires stage 3 when i get it back from bodyshop (some plonker crashed into it whilst i was away on holiday :( gutted)

@@69racer69 was parked on the road at home. Some guy in a ford fiesta drove over some exposed ironwork/pothole and had a blowout and ended up careering into the rear quarter of my car. Had only had it a week too lol

Sounds great, but I can't really tell much of a difference. Seems like the blue car is ever so slightly louder. Given that, what's the price difference for the two solutions?
The blue one has unknown back boxes on (£500+) plus sports cat conversion that is about £1000, The black one has Spires back boxes only that costs £850 and are well known to have a great sound. The blue one is slightly louder, but I get so many compliments about the sound of mine (black car) and I feel there is no need for it to be any louder as it has an amazing and refined sound that suited a powerful Jaguar, not a saxo if you know what I mean. But that’s my personal opinion.
@@69racer69 I would take the quieter one, the last noisy car I owned was a 96 Golf GTi 16v, with a big exhaust, I don’t why but it was so loud, I hated it after a week or two, and curtains twitching every time I reversed off my driveway😂😂😂 ever since then, I’ve made sure my cars aren’t noisy and obnoxious!
@@jonnygti lol “curtains twitching” that made me laugh, yeah those Golfs can be massively loud and horrible inside the car. Mine is perfect inside the car, not obtrusive at all. And I doubt Dud’s is that loud inside either.

It all depends on how loud it is and if your MOT station are sensitive to the noise. There is no other reason why it would fail, the back box isn’t needed for emissions. You’ll just have to try it and see.
Check that every service has been done, the timing chains are due at 105k but do last longer if services right, but to get them changed is a £3k job. So may be the reason why it’s being sold now. A friend of mine didn’t have his changed till 140k but they were slack at that point, still didn’t miss a beat though. The chain tensioner is hydraulic, so servicing is critical so it doesn’t get clogged up and not work correctly. Check the supercharger for noise, but that would only be a coupler change, will still cost a few hundred to get done. Just bare those costs in mind, if it’s priced appropriate then a great buy, the car will last years and years to come.
@@darrrelljones8719 lol yes it’s me, I’ve had 2 XFR’s my first one I had till it had 110k on the clock and I bought my second one with 50k on it. So I know what they’re like when they’re at 100k and they’re still very good. I did change my water pump too on that one, Jag told me that was where the noise was but it was really the super charger coupler 🙄

I have a 2017 XE-35t I live in Canada, can anyone recommend the right exhaust for a more aggressive sound without sounding like a teenager? The stock exhaust is too soft and a cat back is too loud, looking for the right balance. Help please.
You need to do a video with dragy/v box results of 0-60mph, 1/4 mile and 60-130mph with your Viezu stage II. It will be interesting to see whether the 8 speed XFR with the TCU software have different performance results than your XFR.
My 2010 XFR running upper & lower pulley with Viezu tune 50-70 is 1.4 on a full tank 98 Ron. The really improvement is from 60mph onwards. 60-130 shaved of 3.65 seconds on a full tank.
awesome video shane, ive always thought the spires exhaust sounded raspy but i guess it was always poor quality vids as yours sounded great. regarding the sports cats if they are custom fitted to the jag what model are they from? be good to see a dyno result of them to make sure they are giving good gains. im still on the hunt for an xfr but nothing takes my fancy at the minute. i wonder what these sound like de-catted :) keep up the good work buddy
Only Dud knows what they are from, but they are sport food cats do they are MOT friendly and have a better flow than standard cats. The spires exhaust sound great, but if you put the x pipe on too then they can sound raspy. They’re nice and deep sounding with just back boxes.

You still get X-Types around, these are XFR’s (not X Type) totally different chassis. The X-Type was based on a Ford Mondeo chassis. No idea what they cost.
Shane, I'm in the US and recently started a quest for a facelift XFR. Thanks for doing a lot of legwork in regard to performance upgrades I plan to do as well. One question: how much power can the stock eight speed ZF transmission take? What is more important - max torque or HP in regard to transmission integrity?
Hi, I mentioned this in the gearbox tune video, so take a look at that for more detail. The stock ZF8 gearbox is rated to 1,300nm of torque, Jaguar define it in some gears with software to 730nm. The gearbox is bulletproof, so nothing to worry about.
@@69racer69 To be clear, that's NOT true, it's rated to circa 700 Nm, Hence 8HP70... -> They're pretty stout and some people push things harder without explosions, but DEFINITELY - not rated to that level, hence there are newer / more expensive 8HP75/76/90/8HP95 for the new M5, Big heavy strong stuff RS6, SQ7, Bentayga, Hellcat, Rolls Royce, Bentleys, BMW 760 & AM DBS Superleggera... regular oil and maybe a torque converter upgrade will help.
The funny thing is, it’s not a real XFR-S, it’s a 2009 XFR that was rebuilt with a body kit and parts to look like and XFR-S But yes, definitely got an edge with the different Cats on it.

Think my Powerflow beats both tbh. Half the price too with a choice of tailpipe. For Spires read Phoenix exhausts.Spires huy them for 400 quid and sell for 900 quid. No thanks.

The biggest jump in terms of exhaust tune, imo, is to replace all the stock 2.5” exhaust tubing, to a 3” tubing.

They’re OEM but tinted with a film. Any window tint place should be able to do it for you.

Hi everyone, got my MOT coming up next month. Will i be ok with my back box delete, the rest is all in place.

They are very close, and personal preference too. Dud’s has a bit more bottom end growl due to the sports cats he has fitted.
