- In this exciting free art lesson, Tennessee artist Dick Ensing will show you how to use a palette knife to add detail to an oil painting. Using Charvin oil paints, Dick will demonstrate how he continues to paint from dark to light with the palette knife, accentuating the highlights of the piece. This is a great lesson for anyone wondering how to finish their oil painting!
I would pay for a start to finish tutorial for this picture. Beautiful.
Made the photograph so much better with this painting!!!
Dick.....I like your style! I like your teaching! Thumbs-up for more vids pleaseeeeeeee!!!!
Thank you! I'm due to paint with a knife for the first time today.. i started my first oil painting yesterday..
This video's really inspired me to be brave and bold.. thank you from a sunny london :)
Perfect camera angles thanks
in 6:45 you said it doesn't matter what kind of shadow colour you are choosing, well it does in matter for the feeling the painting gives after it's finished, for example, dark reddish create a worm feeling while blue creates a cold feeling depending on the situation of course. Other than than I find this video really helpful! Thanks :)
Thank you for sharing your lovely art

Great little demo - just a bit of info for you - you are using "painting knives" not a "palette knife". A palette knife comes straight out from the handle ( and you get your fingers mucky), painting knife, as you have, are angled like a cement trowel. Hope you don't mind me mentioning it so you can delete this and adjust title. I made a mistake on one of my films recently and was grateful for similar from a pal. Spelt my own name wrong, typo, LOL :-) Best wishes - Peter
