This painting is about two years old. But today, May 24th, 2024, I am seeing it again, as if its the first time. What I find, is that it is as fresh to watch now as it was when Stuart first posted it. I am not a Tonalist painter, but I have been a follower of Stuarts work for several years now and am always fascinated by this style of painting, as well as the commentary, tuition and anecdotal stories that Stuart shares wirh us, as he works on the scenes before him. It is sad to hear that some people view this style with negativity or unnecessary critiscism, which is their right, naturally. Neverthe -less, Stuart maintains a large following, including myself, that the numbers indicate just how much the majority of viewers truly enjoy and love him and his videos. There are things one can learn from him and adopt or adapt in their own works. One thing I can truly say about this style of painting is that it requires lots of practice to achieve the level that Stuart skillfully uses. So Stuart, I want you to know that your integrity, honesty, and happy mistakes etc., are all fully appreciated, mate. Carry on being just who you are and know you are loved and respected by those of us who gladly follow you and your artworks. ❤❤😊😂😅 kindest regards.

“Sometimes I’m Mr. Dangerous.” 😂😂 I had to rewind to make sure you said that and pause so my laughter didn’t drown out the lesson.
    Great lesson, as always!

The level of detail from just scrumbling your brushes across the board! Outstandingly believable land and sky.
Your videos are never too long and your constant chattering just perfect, especially when they're tales from your life.

Dear Stuart, Jabber away. I learn so much and your voice is soothing. 1) Sheep vs Ice Age departure. 2) Or this one: Grass is a rebel. 3) Or, a personal favorite: All paintings are illusions, even the realistic ones. Bravo!

Although I am often told I need to get out more.. How can I when I am totally addicted to watching and listening to you. I don't need to watch films nor soaps on TV. My happy times apart from painting are taken up absorbing the landscapes that you create so beautifully Stuart. I cannot begin to explain fully just how my life feels so good. Aches and pains ( we all struggle with somedays) feel removed whilst being here for hours. Simply wanted to say..... Thank you. X

Dear Stuart, this painting and demo are simply MAGNIFICENT! The larger format makes it easy to follow your construct and teaching as you move from section to section! Simply beautiful! Please continue these larger paintings! BTW, i love the longer videos-it’s like I’m in the classroom with you! I’m sure others feel this way as well!!

Hi Stuart, just loving your wicked mischevious humour every so often. Brings your paintings to life remembering your comments, which by the way are exactly the same that I would say. It is an intuitive magic, watercolour and meeting people. Sometimes watercolour wins over... 😊
Love the personality found inside this painting style and loving what you are finding within it.
Oils as expensive as they are, truly have their own brilliance when swept over a canvas. A wonderful depth.
    Cheers..(nz) 👍👍👍🌏👍👍👍

Please...More long videos! Serious watchers who really want to learn will appreciate them and will just drink it all in. Also continue to "jabber away" as the insight into your thought processes as you create these wonderful land and sky shapes is more helpful than you may realize. The creaking floor is not a problem or any distraction. Thanks again for all that you are doing for us.
    Stay Safe & Healthy.
BTW...I just told a local artist to start watching your videos beginning with The Illusion Of Detail. She is quite a talented artist but, her paintings are sort of "Bob Ross" genre. I just received a text message from her THANKING ME!
I told her to thank you. Credit where credit is due. She said that she completely wants to change the way that she thinks about what makes a really good landscape painting. I believe that her days of rendering "happy little trees" are over now. 😁

thank you so much for this video, I wish I had noticed it yesterday when you released it - would've made my whole day. You are so good at what you do sometimes I go back to a video 2 or 3 times and each time my mind just wanders into the landscape, behind blobs where you've made contrast. I saw the drone shot you put up, and though, wow that is just like the landscape here, but less 'bumpy' we live in the lower Cascade mountains and everywhere you look, it's either sloped or "not level" at least. maybe a drone would help me realize more of the natural beauty outdoors, at least could put it into perspective, or learn as I try! . thank you again for what you do!!

Dear Stuart, I love your painting style and rather laconic self deprecating commentary. You have definitely inspired me to dig out my long neglected oils and to get stuck in. I love the "magical trotting horse" that suddenly appeared as you started to tackle the white spot in the left foreground. 34;26. By the way ,I am live just to the south of Chichester bellow the downs that you were describing and confirm that your description of the landscape formation is spot on. This painting is very reminiscent of landscape I see everyday. Videos too long ? Not for me. Look forward to watching many more. Thankyou for sharing your skills and talent.

I love this style of painting because you don't necessarily have to be able to draw
    And I can't really draw
And I recently started painting (well, "recently", I mean more a couple months ago)
And it's been such a good experience going from thinking that I can't make art because I can't draw (or wasn't taught it when I was young and thus never developed the skill and developing it now being such a hassle) to actually being happy with the end results I paint
I've never done dark colours first and then lights, I'm going to try it on my next painting

    Stuart,
Wonderful painting - very enjoyable to watch!
    Regarding your comments about 'dark' in your presentation, I was reminded of the following;
The predominate color of the Universe is 'black'. In order to see the majesty of the planets, nebulas, etc. you have to be near a sun. Otherwise it's like the art student who arrives at school one day and to their dismay, discovers that a final project is due. Thinking fast they put up a blank white canvas and a canvas all in black for the Instructors review. When quizzed on his project the student responds that the first is a picture of a sleeping white rabbit in a blizzard. The second is a sleeping bat in a dark cave.
Of the two, I prefer the darkness where light reveals a hidden beauty. Without dark there is no light and without light the darkness is bland.
Looking forward to 'part 2' of this painting!
