He closed more than 5000 elementary schools for want of students strength. His successor K.Kamaraj reopened all those 5000 schools & added 10000 more elementary schools adopting a unique distance - criteria for schools to be nearer to the households. He drew unlimited student strength to all the 15000 schools after launching the innovative mid day meal scheme for the first time in the world. Today what Tamil nadu has become is mostly because of leaders like Kamaraj. And not Rajaji.
I fully disagree. The system Rajaji brought was an excellent one.If it were implemented lakhs of T.N. students would have gained knowledge of a trade, which would have raised his standard better than students from other states. Blaming Rajaji for 'closing' schools is wrong. Comparing the great leaders is most unwelcome.Both had great mutual regards. They hv done a lot to our nation and state.

That was the reason there was a big revolt against Rajaji's leadership in the then T.N Congress. He was made to resign. When Kamaraj succeeded Rajaji, Kulakalvi was abolished. Because of his policy of subsequent free education, today both the upper strata & suppressed classes in society are equally educated & command equal respect in Tamil nadu. Who said that leaders should not be compared ? It makes me laugh heartily. In every field comparison is a must. It is being made between two or more persons to find a better or the best person to carry out a job . Democracy is all about comparison of two individuals & two parties. Friendship between two persons is a personal matter. It is always good & healthy . That is in no way connected to public matters like leadership quality & service to people.
