Troubleshooting AC Servo Drives

This video describes troubleshooting for AC servo drives. This is a general purpose video for all types of servo drives. This video goes through visual checks and static checks on the AC servo units.
Visually, it is important to make sure nothing is burnt or broken. Smell is also important. If anything smells burnt but cannot be visually seen to be burnt, take caution! There may be burnt components in the power section or base of the drive that is hard to see without full disassembly of the drive.
Static checking should be performed with caution, as it requires using a multimeter to check the different components inside the drive. In this video, Rob explains the exact procedure step-by-step for statically checking the diodes and transistors. Make sure that before performing any static checks that the power has been removed from the drive and the unit has been properly discharged.

When i start my machine indicate failure 11 and check it out like the video, all the values indicate is ok. But this failure is Causes:
High power impedance, PCB or transistor module are defective.
Solution:
Check AC power, replace damaged Fanuc part.
You can repair correct?

That's just simple method to verify if there's no shorted semiconductor. But sometimes (mosfet and igbt) are degraded in that way they won't show up S/C with low voltage probe of DMM. But if you apply high CE voltage (e.g. megger) it might show up a lot lower resistance than fully functional (so current "leaking out" despite transistor being turned off). During inverter operation it might lead to invalid motor rotation, eventual short circuit in output stage, blown off igbt, fuses, tracks, caps etc. or just desaturation error (and immediate stop) if drive is smart enough. Some drives use controlled rectifier at inputs so it can regulate charging of DC bus caps (no big inrush current at startup) without using NTC+resistor+relay and similar. Usually SCRs brake down to S/C state but sometimes it is open circuit. If that's the case drive might see it takes too long time to charge up caps (so it lost 1 phase). Or if there are indeed series pre-charge resistors they might be damaged and have too much resistance to charge up caps.
