I was the guy coming off the water at the end of the video! Caught a lot of fish out there over the last few years thanks to your videos! Keep up to the great work!
B ROLL. Mitch is back and catching fish, awesome! I must admit though Tom that drone shot was cool. The 23 minute mark? That'll make ya cry. That rod was bent!
I love your program.Excellent information on fishing . I have a question. What is your favorite All around color for moonshine minnow. Google eyed tungsten search bait jig head?
Tom and Viewers, do thos Kalin Search Baits work well trolling with boards like you would a traditional spinner rigs ? If so--what are the advantages then?
Great video nice to see there’s still a lake in the north woods that has Quality fish in it I used to go up to vilas all the time when I was younger in the early 80s. My nephew is up there this summer majoring in biology. He is doing invasive species removal. Spent the weekend up there I was surprised at how many lakes I used to fish had a sign at the landing saying fish restoration in progress please practice catch and release. Kinda sad to see that still had fun and yes we were out there and got rained and hailed on 😂
I was using this bait over the weekend and was having some issues with slow death hook wrapping itself around the body of the lure on several casts. Anything that you do to prevent that or reduce the amount of times that happens? On the casts where that didn’t happen the lure looked great coming through the water. Not giving up on the lure by any means, just looking for help reducing some of my frustrations with it.
Tom, any tips on fishing the Mississippi when it's high like it is right now? I'm going to be in the pool 5 area this weekend for a fun fishing weekend. Hoping to at least have a little luck with the fishing, but either way we will be having some fun. Any help would be great!
Is there a trick to keeping the hook from tangling with the rest of the bait when retrieving the search bait? I even switched to a smaller octopus hook and find that more often than not it is getting hung up on my retrieval.
Try using your finger to stop the bait before it hits the water TY hen as soon as it hits the water release the line and let it down to the depth you want. Most the time uf it's hung up it's on the cast before it ever hits the water and stopping the lure swing the hook end away from the line
First off love the videos. Your videos have helped me catch more walleye. I live in Colorado Springs CO. I have places to catch walleye but was wondering can I use that search thing your using casting off Rocky points from shore? Have a boat but had surgery recently and can’t get it out just yet. Any tips would be grateful thanks again
How dare you disrespect that Smallie! Although yours didn't put up much of a fight, the Bronze Backs and the Skis the hardest fighting fish and deserve the respect they've earned. Also 😁, thanks for all the tips in catching the white, (and silver/gold), ones - I've learned a lot from you that's made mean more well rounded fisherman - all the best!
I know you like clear lakes for walleyes. But we have a lake here in Indiana called lake maxinkuckee in Culver Indiana. I'd like to see you try and catch the walleyes on this lake. It's clear and deep. But does have a lot of underwater mounds. And points. But I don't think you will feel the same about clear lakes after you try this one lol. Thank you
One thing I really like about the search bait is it's made of tungsten which I can see better using mega live and also the bait being more compact than lead!
It looked like you were reeling and setting the hook like a crankbait using the 5/8 search bait in the deeper water! Nice video along with some tanks!!
Similar to Whistler jigs love those ! But your jig would probably spin faster ! I often put a surf and turf on mine ! A minnow then a leech on the minnow same hook . Fish probably think two for one deal .
@@TomBoleythx Tom. Appreciate the quick response! Same rod I use on the smaller search baits, just wasn’t sure how it would hold up to the bigger size.
I’m new to fishing so give me some slack here, but how are you getting your hook out so easily? I feel like I have to back my hook out in the exact same direction it went in to get it out. I’m mostly catching bluegill and bass.
Yeah. Lob the cast... Don't whip it. Slow the bait down before it hits water . Thread the crawler way up over the swivel. It rarely happens when you do that
@TomBoley Thanks for the reply. I will try the lob cast. My dad suggested a piece of rubber tubing to slide up like your doing on the crawler over the swivel. I did catch two walleyes even though I was fouling 95 percent of the time in an hour just shows how effective the lure really is.
i have missed fish this year on smiley blade spinners. My theory is that the fish is biting the whole thing and the beads are trapped in the tip of jaw (not being hooked) when the fish lets go the hook evades a set. i imagine with the search bait there is a nice lump of weight that gets trapped.

We all lose fish, specially at the boat when we can see how big they appear with the water magnification. It only adds to the pain. I tried those purple hair jigs in Canada. Only caught one fish on it after multiple tries. I blame the Canadian fish. They did love silver, white and watermelon soft baits.
How big of lakes do you fish? That’s the biggest lake I fish, almost 4000 acres. Most in that area are 1000 or less. I enjoyed seeing Mitch catch a couple and was encouraged he did it just dragging a bobber.
@@TomBoley Maybe I am wrong and mentioning a lake would flood the lake with fishermen but I don't think so. Subscribers are spread out over the country. I have similar numbers of subscribers (only in dog training not fishing) . Mentoning where you fish lets people dream. I think it personalizes you. I watch Clayton Schick and would love to go to where he fishes in Canada but probably will not.
You’re not horsing them… you know the deal on the huge walleyes… parts of their mouths are hard bone and getting a hook to penetrate is almost impossible. All it takes is for them to turn just the right amount and they are gone!
Do you remember what it’s like to fish without livescope? I struggle to watch your videos anymore. I believe the majority of anglers can’t afford $ thousands for this

Appreciate it. We are gonna do an app video on fishing small lakes soon

What rod is the best to throw the Kalins search bait
74 Elliott rig and jig identity
Tom, I thought take a kid fishing weekend was a few weeks ago? What a guy, letting the kiddo take some biggins!

Its a deadly summer presentation
How can I keep my kalins search bait from tangling when I cast ? It does it 3 out of 5 casts 🤷🏻♂️😂
Using a clear leader or just braid ?
@@wayne-oo floro leader from braid main line . 8lb for both
Heavier stiffer fluro leader and single shank hooks seems to work best.
I’ve used 10 lb 832 braid and 10 lb Berkeley fluorocarbon leader 10 ft long and don’t seem to have a problem.

Will do. Thanks for watching

Apologies if I missed it. Did he say what rod he was using? Wondering if a medium action rod is necessary for the new heavier search bait? Thoughts?
I prefer medium light. This rod is an Elliot Rods 74mlf rig and jig.
@@TomBoleythx Tom. Appreciate the quick response! Same rod I use on the smaller search baits, just wasn’t sure how it would hold up to the bigger size.
So use the 3/8 Oz in 10-20 and 5/8 zoz deeper? Gonna give these a shot here in CO. Walleye are finicky here

60 years ago, when I was a WI resident, my dad and I fished Lac Vieux Desert that bordered WI and MI. Is that lake still a great walleye lake? Rick
Who makes that spinner?
Kalins
