Inspirational. I'm a newbie, (2 years into it) to auto upholstery and consider myself fairly good since the products I've completed for clients have gotten very good remarks. I'm not at your level yet, but I'm working on it. A couple of more years and more projects will get me to this level and I'm going to do this full time so I can quit the mechanical end of auto repairs. 40 years as a tech and I'm majorly burned out bad.
The upholstery job is definitely less messy than the under hood side....but we are the last to see the money... My old boss told me that with car restoration or custom works...that the customer will have usually gone over budget and that the light being near the end of the tunnel and they just wanna drive the car after the motor/tranny/body/paint stuff is done....they either want something just thrown together super fast or end up just tinting the windows and sitting on bad foam/springs/duct tape or sheepskin covers.... I do miss doing upholstery work. There was definitely a satisfaction of seeing something to its completion...but I am a perfectionist and was more of a "craftsman" than a business man and would often not be home on time and would see a lot of microwaved leftovers instead of warm food at the normal time.... But with the potential of being fired for misgendering someone... there is a skill that I can go back to if the fecal waste hits the turbine blades.... You'll have a different kinda messy when it comes to upholstery work...like convertibles that aren't garage kept and some of the nasty stuff that can collect in the rain rails and draining paths that can sometimes be similar to cleaning out a pipe under the sink.... But I do wish you well! I am often told it is art that isn't appreciated much and those that are good do well... I have 2 shops near where I live and the one doesn't do auto upholstery anymore and the other is closing up and retiring.....but the place I live is said to have people with deep pockets and short arms....it really causes people to work hard at spending good money on quality work. 😅🤣😂 I was told by my old boss that I COULD do something like "Interiors by Shannon"... (should find him on Google or Facebook) He focuses on just one car at a time and that way there isn't a whole lot of jumping from one project to the next... Another resource for auto upholstery communities is The Hog Ring. A group of auto upholstery guys on Facebook as well.
great start. i see a few rumples but we all start somewhere. I make bespoke custom builds as well as printed upholstery fabrics. I myself have done award wining triumph motorcycle seats. I love that women have literally taken this trade over. I even do classes in Toronto now
Stitching, weaving, decorative knots, knitting and crochet, and braiding are all super meditative pattern based practices. My personal favorite is doing decorative knots.
Beautiful work. I have hand stitched marine grade vinyl, leather and fabric. It is not easy by any means and takes a toll on your hands. Rock on Oksana!
Excellent work! Just Beautiful, really good attention to detail. love the way you develop your flat patterns before stitching and then test fitting before final install. I am currently working of an armrest design that some may want to bring to you for custom covering. I am keeping that possibility in mind as I develop my design. Thank you for posting, very inspirational.
4:58 Never thought I'd like that, but I do. Personally I would not want it in a car though because stains become visible very quickly on that bright color. All dark might be a bit boring, but it is just very practical.
What kind of foam do you use for shaping the seat and making it comfy? I need to work on my racing chair that is falling apart, needs to be rebolsterd and new covers. T_T
Nice work I've dreamed of being able to buy cars to resale and do custom interiors in them also would love to make my own leather furniture for my home😁 your an inspiration thanks.
for everyone saying she has amazing talent ... if I paid $2-$3k on this 0:36 ..... I ain't paying that for that level of wrinkle. Would you get that on an OEM?
Very inspirational. After 10years of a back ache from my truck seat I will be experimenting with different foams to make the most amazing seat from the worst seat ever designed by Nissan. It's soooo bad.
Здравствуйте! Подскажите пожалуйста что за жёлтый клей которым Вы пользовались для приклеевания полукруглого надреза с обратной стороны чехла??? Как он называется и какие у него свойства???

What is the name of the material you use for pattern ?
What is the average cost? Let's say to do the seats of a Jeep Rubicon.

it can be much more practical and convenience if you use the old seat cover as a mould, copy and paste. save your time a lot. hope it helps!
