I hope he does. I grew up going to the farmer’s market with him and small shows of his there. I want to be able to see him perform for the rest of my life
saw him in boston the other night. tiny, tiny theatre. he had us enthralled. such a nice guy, hung out in the lobby just shootin the shit. he's a friggin national treasure/hero.
i was there! i got him to sign this little strip of brown fabric and at first he refused because it wouldn't work but i stretched it out for him and it was a nice pen. that show was impeccable
He really is. I grew up in Portland and had the privilege of going to the same farmer’s market as him. He had small shows there all the time and when I was around 4 I ran across the stage and he laughed it off. He always said hi to my dad and I when he saw us. It was wild and so special to be able to share even that small connection with him and his music. His performances made me fall in love with music.
If not that, then one of his other albums. I certainly love his stuff as much or more than anything else I've enjoyed in 45+ years of loving music. This video is priceless!
I was looking on a retailers site at other music and searched to see if they had any Michael Hurley on hand. LIVING LJUBLJANA popped up. I hadn't heard of this one. Live performance recorded on DAT in Slovenia from 1995! It was released 2018. I highly recommend it. The sound quality is amazing! Soooo soothing. Great performance with vocal harmonies, an album to cherish.
I bought 'Ancestral Swamp' recently and just can't stop playing it in my car. Words fail me to explain what a great record it is. I urge everyone to buy it!! What a talent.
Will do :) I bought "Blue Driver", "Bad Mr. Mike", "Hi Fi Snock Uptown" shortly after the collection was reissued. I think I just randomly picked those 3 albums
Last week I found Ancestral Swamp in used records in the centre of Prague. I wasnt familiar with the record but felt I really should buy this one and I did. Its pretty rare to hear something so pure, natural and authentic. I'll probably play it often.
I would love to meet him it appears you are also a Dave van ronk fan great taste him and snock r my faviout musicians his album forest songs and Dave's album just Dave van ronk r my 2 faviout lps
Snock's still a sly musical expeditionary that will take you places you never imagined. Ever since I made a two-sided tape of "Armchair Boogie" and "Have Moicy" when I was in college (almost 30 years ago) I've been a big fan.
La commozione profonda mi costringe a usare la mia madre lingua. Michael Burley è TROPPO. Ed io abbraccio la Musa del POETA e piango tutte le mie povere lacrime umane. LEI piange le sue lacrime divine...
The intro to boone and Jocko is very similar to stakerlee or stacka Lee or any other titles that song has it remindse a lot of the missisipi johm hurt version
Thanks for sharing! I´m in the process of learning some Michael Hurley songs, and I was wondering if anybody could help me out with the lyrics for the two first verses of Sacramento Rattlesnake/Big Black Spider? I would really appreciate it. I´m from Norway, so I have a little bit of trouble hearing what he´s singing here. This is what I got so far: The big black spider got in mye house with the ............?..........? I killed it but I do regret I even was ......?.......?...... The Sacramento rattlesnake will get you in the ......?......?...... THANKS! :-)
I can try to help, but only so little. Apologies. "...got in my house, with a white dash on his/its [incoherent] The rest is all too incoherent but it makes it fun to make up words when playing along. Enjoy.

He just keeps getting better. Imagine if he lived to be 200.
I imagine he already has
I hope he does. I grew up going to the farmer’s market with him and small shows of his there. I want to be able to see him perform for the rest of my life

Lucky
My soul has never felt such company. Seeing him next week :,)
Randomly stumbled here, very lovely & uplifting!
First Songs is the most under-appreciated album ever made.
If not that, then one of his other albums. I certainly love his stuff as much or more than anything else I've enjoyed in 45+ years of loving music. This video is priceless!
@@garyives1218 I agree. If First Songs got the recognition it deserved, then his subsequent albums would have been noticed.

@@nrand400 Yeah Dave Von Ronk was a legend!
Thanks mr. Hurley. You are such a inspiration.
I have to admire him, making a subtle statement singing Pastures of Plenty in a toney Northern California vineyard. Woody would have chuckled.
This is one of my favorite videos on youtube. it calls me down every time I listen. thanks.
Absolute treasure...so soothing. It's great many of his albums have been reissued.

The big black spider got in my house
With a white dash on it that I saw
I killed it but I do regret
I even was there at all
The Sacramento rattlesnake
Will get you in the crawl
You can not cure the heart of a witch
They ain’t no good at all
She might be chiseling my tombstone
With the last day that I live
She might be chiseling her lovers heart
With the last thing that he’ll give
The alligator ain’t no fish
But she could be in the water
You think you’d like to get a fish
That gator could be in the water
Taste the golden nectar from
The honeysuckle vine
I’m goin’ to my lover’s house
And drink her poison wine
The alligator ain’t no fish
But she could be in the water
You think you’d like to get a fish
That gator could be in the water
❤❤❤❤❤
he is deep
Just great, that’s all.

Hi I have looked on your channel for knockando but it's not there. Can you post it please? love that song.
Timothy Daish Hi. Sorry, it has taken me some time to post. I´ll be posting a quick tutorial of Knockando later tonight. :-)
Anyone know what kind of a guitar this is?
Some type of vintage f whole floating bridge Gibson I believe I think the pickup is added later

Have moicy!
My hero, and bassets are decided criminals
