@@tanDlegen You might know the answer to this - What type of guitar does Michael Hurley play here? I can't see the brand because of the tuner.
Chris Lambert It´s a Roy Smeck by Harmony. A nice guitar. :-)
YESSS DOCUMENTARIO@
Here because I heard this song in the movie Leave No Trace and it got stuck in my head. I didn't expect it to actually be the same person singing!
Same and same! ❤
eu também!!!
The only dude who plays tunes in the same energy of his young days. Never died. Never will.
His voice ages like a fine wine
Their harmony is spot on.
How good is that! so grateful for this man's existence!
My ole buddy and neighbor in Richmond, VA.
I hope the Portland water is treating him well.
Long live Michael!!!
Damn didn’t know he’d lived in rva
How lovely! The three of you sound so nice together...
Disagree with the sentiment on the harmonies below. I thought they were beautifully done and just a tad deviated enough to make it interesting. His guitar playing is fascinating, unique and percussive. It’s all masterful. I’m heading down to Oregon from Washington in a couple of months and was brought to tears thinking of how amazing it would be to meet him.
First heard him with his song "Hog of the Forsaken" in the Deadwood movie credits. This is beautiful.
#same
is beutiful sound.i love this so much.
So beautiful! I love his music.
The prettiest harmony I ever heard.
Such a real treasure
Love his music!
Look at those beautiful girls singing the most beautiful song. Oh my stars.
Good taste brought me here.
Perfection.
Stephen Hunt Hi. I´m in the process of learning some Michael Hurley which I will be posting on my channel as guitar-lessons. I have a little bit of trouble with the lyrics for the song Goners on the album Down in Dublin. (You can find it here on youtube). This is what I´ve figured out so far. I would really appreciate if anybody could help me out and fill in the correct words where the dots are. Thanks! :-)
I called you up this morning, but you wasn´t home
All day I´ve been wonderin´ where you´ve gone
But you never .................. something like me.
You have left my heard in misery
I was just your sweetheart, but you were my love

Yes!
Can anyone please help me find the origin of this tune?
This is a song my wife heard many years ago being performed up in West Virginia by a local bluegrass band on the NPR
Michael Hurley first released this song on his album, Snockgrass, in 1980. I'm sure the bluegrass band your wife heard playing on NPR were fans of Michael Hurley, or perhaps it was even Michael Hurley himself backed by a bluegrass band.
He sounds as good as he has on years, but these harmonies don’t really work. I personally never really like any released version of this song nearly half as much as the sound of him singing it alone; it’s much more haunting and a little lonely, and when people have tried harmonizing with him it always takes away that poignant bittersweet character that I loved.
yeah , they can't negotiate the minor chord, miss it every time. The original recorded version has harmonies by Jill Gross, and she nails it. I have had the pleasure of Backing up MH many times, and still I agree , he's better as a solo performer
Agreed - and these harmonies are off in places too, jarring to my ears. His voice is so pretty without any help.
I have listened to this song for many, many years in different recorded and live versions. I like this one, it's different, but quite lovely. I am pretty sure Snock approved it. Not sure what Boone and Jocko think though.
Michael was not pleased with this, he told me he thinks they were singing in a different key.
I think the harmonies are for community building more than music. No, they can't get the last chord ( I think it is a minor iv)
