Yea, but each lap is taking him roughly 17 to 18 seconds to complete. Daytona, with NASCAR stock cars, takes like 44 to 45 seconds @ 200 MPH. That means this car must be going around 500 MPH to make these laps times. Somethings Fishy... Chad Knaus must be his crew chief. You have to wreck the car if you win, wont pass inspection.
Jokes aside, the actual story is that Sega did a partnership with General Electrics for their new arcade processor. They wanted a racing game to surpass their previously released Virtua Racer and wanted to make a Nascar themed game. Since General Electric's headquaters is right in front of Daytona International Speedway, Sega went to visit the track with their partners and got an excellent overview of Nascar racing. To save on licensing fees and possible complications on agreements with NASCAR LLC, Sega's game director decided to base the game entirely out of Daytona and made a license with the Daytoma International Speedway itself
From Daytona video's to Falcons, it's always interesting seeing what content creators have done for their first video... This game has terrible driver dynamics when compared to newer car games but is so nostalgic at the same time...
That'd be pretty cool! When they released it on PS3 there was an online component, but I don't believe many used it. If you've ever seen what Nintendo did with Tetris 99 or Super Mario 35 on Switch it's a concept that'd work. 100 racers that gradually get knocked out over X amount of laps until you have a winner!
If you play as the Hornet in the sequel, Daytona USA 2 Battle On The Edge version, the camera angle is also used during the Rolling Start of the beginner track.
if you take that curve in the precise spot, you can just brake a little. The problem is that is almost never possible because the other cars , so you have to break even further... or just crash.
This is a multiplayer version of the game. In the multiplayer versions, the cars have different colors per cabinet. Also the menu music is different and there is a voting system for picking tracks
Beginners track. Tap the brakes just before you shift back to third.😆. Never had that much damage on the car though. I am pinball wizard. BLAT racing. 😆😙

Our TVs also smoothed out much of the rough edges (anti-aliasing).

I like this better than the other racing games because Daytona USA requires so much damn skill!
For a game which seems so basic it takes ages to master. I played it in the arcades for hundreds of hours and still have much to learn about it.
Use to play this back in 2002 in a 4-star hotel where they have an arcade room featuring this game.

At the underpass..if you hit the red button or start .the spinners would stop..
Apparently 3 7s would give you a free credit in the arcade version.
Never notice before. But pop up was bad in the arcade so perhaps original Saturn version was closer to the arcade than we normally give it credit!
