Daytona USA - Beginner Course (Three Seven Speedway)

- Here is a rather fast run on SEGA's Daytona USA's Beginner Course, this is played using the Sega Model 2 emulator - M2.
You should already know Daytona USA, it's one of the most well known arcade games from the 90s, where it made crazy money in the arcades.
It has a catchy (or annoying) sound track to the game, especially the attract mode music. The graphics were amazing for its time, and still look good today (and even better when upscaled in an emulator)
Daytona USA is challenging, and really hard to finish 1st place (especially without manual transmission). I find the Beginner Course harder than the Advanced to finish 1st, because of all the cars which crash in this course, and that it's quite hard to overtake too.
I've never been that good at Daytona USA (I'd play SEGA Rally instead), but I picked it back up quite easily. Also it is fun on system link, which I have done quite a bit.

You can open audio sample ROMs from inside daytona.zip in Audacity as raw audio. 8 bit unsigned 44.1 KHz. The biggest files in the set.

wow nice. what do you need to input for those drifts? they've got the 4 player cab at a Dave & Busters up the street from me and I hop in there and try to clear this track every so often, still haven't managed. Fighters and shmups are my main jams but I like trying to learn anything you can put a quarter in or twitch out on

How the hell are you doing those drifts? I keep slamming into the wall on the Mount Sonic turn.
Agni Astor if you're using an automatic, then brake for a second or two (basically you want to be at around 170 mph) while turning, make sure your steering really quick and you'll start sliding, for a manual, the same physics apply, but you can also use gear drift, where you go from gear 4 to 1, this acts like the brake, then going to gear 3 for your slide, for this turn in particular, leave you car in 1st gear while turning until you're at 180 mph, 170 if you're trying to learn how to do it for your first time, then put it to gear 3 and steer carefully, also, if you're going fast enough, you won't have to counter steer until you're out of the turn, hope this helps, if you want to know how to do gear drifting, watch the "H" symbol under the speedometer, that's how I learned, good luck
Yeah I figured it out soon after I made that video! I can now 1-2-3-4 easily on that turn and can now get first place, it's a really satisfying feeling.

Just use the 2nd and go back to 4th, that's the fastest way to go.
I use the same technique too, but it´s a good idea go in 4th and slow down to 3rd without using the brakes... (Yo también uso la misma técnica, pero es una buena idea ir en 4ta y bajar a 3ra sin usar los frenos)
Not true: I've tried both methods many times to test.
Switching to second gear reduces your speed too much for the drift you achieve for that specific corner - ideal speed to exit the corner with is 285-295, depending on your angle - higher obviously more attractive.
Switching to second gear makes the corner much easier to get through, but while going from 335 to 295 normally is fine - if you hit anything in the corner you've lost too much speed. This is practically impossible to achieve in an 8 lap run with 39 other cars on the track; in particular when you're in the top 5.
Switching to third gear, on the other hand, gives you control over the corner - and you can reproduce switching to second gear by tapping the break very slightly - to get both the angle and speed needed.
The difference is that in third gear, you have the option to drift the entire corner because an opponent is on you - this way you'll be pushed to whatever side your opponent is pushing, and controlling your turn to equalize - and then exiting at the ideal 295 speed.
Well, i usually exit the corner at 300+ and also have no problems with the other cars.
I think it's just driving style, i'm used to do it that way and can do it fast.
Every topranker replay I've ever seen has used a 4-2-4 on the final corner, I don't think there's much room to debate it at this point. You should work on the pit shortcut and see how your time holds up.
I can't really offer any specific input as I've spent almost all of my time on Advanced. Beginner is definitely not my strong suit haha
hahahaha If I have to talk about the pits at the final lap... When you are 2nd and you can´t win, use the pits entering at the 8th lap...
That's near impossible to play on emulator right now...
