I had that same problem with my splitter cutting thinner in some areas. It would actually cut the leather in to. This happened many times before I found it. I looked it over & over & the roller was bowed a bit in the center & that is what was causing that on mine.

Mr.Bruce I always enjoy your videos and learn from them...mind explaining the use of the bisonnette edger? What would be more useful bisonnette or western turned up edger.

I prefer the Western Edger size number 1 and have a Weaver tight corner edger I use sometimes on real soft leather.

I have a question that I think you can answer. I am making a western style belt out of harness leather and it is 8 oz. I want to add a piece on the back of black chrome tanned and is it ok to do that without a problem?

That will work just fine.

I am lining a nile crocodile belt and do not want to groove the opposite side in case if I punch my stitching chisel wrong. Should I use the swivel knife to cut a groove on the croc side? I noticed on a scrap piece the stitch groover doesn't bite into the croc very much if at all. I've never done this and could really use some help. HELP? aLSO SHOULD i STITCH AROUND THE BELT HOLES TO MAKE CERTAIN THEy NEVER SEPARATE? I'm using 0.8mm ritza tiger thread in brown.

Those croc hides are so thin I don't think I would put a stitch groove on it. Should be okay to stitch around the belt holes.

@@cheaneysaddles This hide is over 2mm thick and it is tougher than leather. I just want to hand sew a straight line, I guess I'll groove the backing leather and hope I keep it straight.

Started with lightweight saddle skirting and pulled it down to 10 ounce which works good for tooling belts.
