Standard Mexican Loop Holster, unlike what you might see in the movies, this is the standard type of holster used by cowboys and others in the late 19th century in the American west.
Made from 13-15 oz Hermann Oak saddle skirting. Oiled with pure Neatsfoot Oil and antiqued with Fiebing's Tan-Kote and Antique Finish.
Sir I have to tell you. I am just starting to get into leatherworking and learning how to make my own holsters and such. I just saw your video when I was looking for some instruction. I have to tell you this is some of the absolute most beautiful artwork I have ever seen. You truly are an artist. You are also a true inspiration.
I'm a leather worker by hobby. My dad taught me when I was just about 5 and I've made some very nice pieces over the years. I lost my dad last month and I inherited a Ruger Vaquero 44 Mag. I'd love to make this holster for it. I wish you talked about what you were doing, while doing it, but I loved the video anyway. You and I have a very similar style and method. You are definitely more professional. As I sit here on Father's Day, without my dad for the first time, your video made me smile because of the beauty of what you created. Thank you for posting it.
I just enjoyed watching him turn leather into a beautiful work of art, thanks for sharing this video.
Man, you really move me. He is watching over you.
Sorry for you lost!
Me too..... it was beautiful job.
My dad died at the age of 56 I was 30 at the time, he was my hero and taught me to be an asset to society and a good person to all I came into contact with. This was back in 1988 and I still miss him like hell. They say time heals, I think my freakin clock stopped.
My hope is that America never loses this amazing craft! This country was made richer because of talented artists like you.
Not just well crafted, but a real piece of art. It's a utilitarian sculpture in leather. Amazing.
Until I watched this video I never knew just how much work goes into making it and it turned out beautiful only a master at leather could have done such beautiful work
Nice, first holster I've seen sewn by hand, job well done. Thanks
Such beautiful work. I am only about a year into my leather work but work by the likes of you inspire me to be better.
Thx for sharing your work with us. No annoying music or cluttered commentary, just an artisan enjoying his craft....thx again!!!
EXCELLENT job of tooling! Beautiful holster! Yes, you are right about this being the TYPE of holster most working cowboys used in the latter part of the 19th Century! I've lived in the American West all my life and have spent over 50 years researching, writing and working as a cowboy, Blacksmith and reenactor and in all that time I've never seen a picture from that time in history of a WORKING cowboy having a holster as well embellished as this one. The only ones that did were dudes and show offs!
Thanks for the video!
Passion shows through with his work...right down to the set of tools that help him in his craft. Even the hammer(probably using the wrong term here) is elegant. I have tons of respect for those who display their superior trade skill (more art) on TH-cam to relay how much pride existed in hand made items to a throw away society that we’ve been mind-washed into thinking are “state of the art” products. I absolutely love the scroll work. Bravo.
I'm a leather artist too. Been doing it for 0 years, 0 months, and 0 days. It pure joy watching a true artist/craftsman do magic. Wish today's young'ns would stop plying the internet games and turn to videos like yours to learn something to do with their hands besides a joystick. In fifty years cowboy craft may well be lost. Thank you for sharing and I'm heading for the Tandy store in Spokane, WA.
En un mundo tan artificial es tan reconfortante ver q aún quedan personas como este señor es un verdadero maestro!!
X 2 y yo que ni corto bien el pan :'v
My first time seeing a holster hand made. You are a craftsman and and artist. Beautiful work and attention to detail.
Good Lord, that's a beautiful holster. Man 13-15oz leather!! That is some hard work there, and all done by hand. Not many out there doing what you are doing. I think some of the folks on TH-cam need to watch you to know what a true holster maker can do instead of all these people with air this and vacuum that. A very very fine job indeed. Thank you for letting me watch you make it. Pat
I swear, it just keeps on getting better every time I think something is done!
كيف يمكنني شراء السلاح الخفيف وكيفية وصوله ادري رجاء
Stunning!!! My goodness what a truly gifted artist you are!
Great job such a pleasure to see something made by hand and not a machine . Keep em coming .
The leather is putty in his hands !! A pleasure to watch
It's really to bad you don't see this type of craftsman much anymore. The attention to detail, the quality of work, and clearly the pride he takes in his work is unfortunately a dying art.
Thank you sir - it's a priviledge to watch you demonstrate your art and craftmanship.
OMFG..... That holster is gorgeous. The amount of skill you possess is seriously impressive.
I've never seen one made before, I'am totally impressed by your workmanship and skills with your hands. Beautiful.
You are the best leather craftsman on You Tube. I enjoy your videos.
What a joy to witness a master craftsman at work!!!
Free handing that stamping work was amazing! So much attention to detail! Bravo sir!
It's almost 2 years since you made this. Time to shoot another project. I'm learning. Keep on teaching.
Now THAT was/is a first class job. You obviously take a great deal of pride in your work. Very beautiful. Thank you for posting. I was very much impressed.
The 331 people who down voted this video are idiots and have no business watching leather craft videos. This was an amazing job done on an amazing looking Mexican loop holster. Kudos!
Fantastic, well worth watching. (Several times)
I still enjoy rewatching his creativity.
Excelente trabajo. Usted es un puente entre la imaginación y como se hace realidad, gracias por compartir, y mostrarnos este arte.. Very good work. You are the medium to convert and pass from the imagination to a reality this things, Tanks for share. and show us. this art.
I make holsters but after watching you I'm tempted to pack my tools up. A true master.
No Grasshopper, get out another piece of leather. He did not get this good by wishing. One holster at a time, each better than the last.
@@callawayken650 I've improved alot since this video. I've practiced hours each day after work on tooling. I've done some things now that blew my own mind like tooling horses and things like that but when it comes to the western type tooling this guy's 1 of the best. Them saddles he makes are crazy. Some things you either got or don't. Like being able to draw out these designs before tooling them on leather. He's definitely got it.
Absolutely beautiful work of functional art!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching you do that.
I'm shopping for a holster for my Schofield #3. The Mexican Loop Holster, just won.
What a skilled craftsman you are. Absolutely Gorgeous.
I had one made by a guy up in Montana a couple of years ago. I thought it was great until I saw this. Beautiful work.
Gun leather is always fun, impressive work here. I have Dad's single action holster marked AJWilliamson,Casper Wy.from 1943 or so. Also grandpa's military issue 1911 holster marked S&R likely over 100 yrs old. Nice to have with the sentimental value. Holsters and the makers are a treasure.
Outstanding skill! If only I had that type of skill. I love that holster, it's beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Just amazing nothing to say, I really want to lean next to a pro like You but here in my country there’s no gun looooool and hard to find all the tools and a good thick veg tan leather, thanks for the video, I learned a lot 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Always enjoy watching an artist work. Well done!!
First time seeing how one of these things were made I'm impressed
Wow, that is gorgeous work! Thank you for sharing.
Nice job and excellent carving. I've made a few myself and one trick I use for a custom fit to the gun is to place the gun in plastic wrap / bag and leave it in the holster until it dries. Obviously the leather will shrink a bit and form nicely to the final shape.
There is nothing like an artisan and leather craft great job
Very beautiful holster. I enjoyed watching your skill unfold.
You are slammin everything down on the table dude.
What
Superb, stunning, avvesome, beautiful, fantastic....and all those adjectives still arent enough to describe the quality artvvork that you had craft from leather . Thank you for shovving vvhat goes into your vvork as I have allvvays been curious as to hovv leather goods vvere decorated .
Great job nice to see a real artist doing his craft.
That looks like a work of art and wish I could do stuff like that. I need a good Holster for my old S&W .38 Special. I have a cheap on now but that would make it stand out big time. I am now a big fan and cant wait to watch more videos.
Enjoyed very much watching a master craftsman at his work. So much to be learned.
I know how much work this takes, and how much practice. Excellent!
That's beautiful craftsmanship to watch.
Great mix of artwork and craftsmanship, very nice!
Truly beautiful. Real craftsmanship!!!
Great to see you back!!!!
What a beautiful holster. Well done.
Beautiful work. And hand-stitched!
Steady hand to cut through heavy leather with incredibly sharp tools without cutting yourself or ruining your work....that’s impressive.
And now we need a belt to make the whole thing and by golly I would give my eye teeth to be able to afford something like that. Thank you for displaying your years of experience.
Stunning! Absolutely stunning!
Absolutely beautiful work!
Beautifully done holster.
Beautiful workmanship.
Beautiful work of art and great skill
Stunning, elegant and beautiful, thank you for sharing your work it is such a pleasure to watch the quality of your craft.
I'd like to buy one of these, so impressive and I didn't even know anything was made by hand any longer.
I bought one at a gun show for $55 buck's I should have got the left handed holster though next time. They do look really nice looking I have mine on display.
Fantastic art of engraving on leather.

THAT is what it's all about! Excellent work...a true Craftsman. I can only hope in time I can get that good.
That’s a gorgeous holster! I’m sure it’s well out of my price range...And if it isn’t, I’m sure the ornate revolver deserving of such a masterpiece would be🤣
this guy gets it lol
