What if you don't have baking powder can you use baking soda. What's the difference between the two

Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate and it needs acid and liquid for it to work effectively while baking powder is sodium bicarbonate and acid which requires only liquid to activate it.
Please use baking powder as required by the recipe . Thanks
