Brother, what do you even expect out of a $150 phone ? Stop saying disappointing so many times in your review. This phone is much more than what any other company in the world provides for this price. Take a Note - This is probably the cheapest priced phone series in the world
It's a good phone but you forget the Mi Max 2 and Mi 5X both with similar price and spec (Mi Max 2 has the same chip) have unibodies, dual loudspeakers and Type-C so that's why it's disappointing and why is this a step back i nterms of build?
But Max 2 and 5X has fallen significantly in price since they were released. I bought Mi Max 2 from goldway when it was released and payed around $300. The 4/64 version of 5 Plus now costs around $200 at goldway. It is more or less always a bad deal to buy a newly released phone. You compare apples and oranges.
I'm comparing it to the Redmi Note 4X and then the Mi Max 2 and Mi 5X which for around the same price has unibodies, dual loudspeakers and type-c ports. See what I'm getting at now.
For all those thinking I'm being harsh on the Redmi 5 Plus's build. You forgot that the Mi Max 2 (Same chipset) and Mi 5X for a very similar price have Type-C, unibody build and dual loudspeakers. That's why I'm disappointed, it's clearly a step backwards #redmi5plus
Yes but that is comparing apples and organges. The initial price on Max 2 and 5X were much higher compared to Redmi 5 Plus. These two phones belong to a different category (affordable midrangers rather than budget phones). The price of 5 Plus will soon decline.
I agree but i still got faith that the reason for this old chip is to avoid competing with Note 5..well, i'm praying for that coz if not, there's no reason to one change the note 4x for this one.
For someone who wants a larger screen and slimmer bezels Redmi 5 Plus is the way to go. My sweet spot for screen size has been 5.7" 16:9 screens but the dimensions of 6" 18:9 is more or less comparable. Personally, a bigger screen with reduced bezels is meaningful upgrade, however, the difference in performance between SD625 and 630 is so subtle I would not notice it.
the starting price of redmi 5 plus ,3GB+32GB version is only 999yuan which is about only 130 euros, even 64GB version is only 170 euros, becouse of it's new phone, sellers can't get enough stock to make the cheap price for countries out of china,i paid 145 euros for the 32GB version and the seller still not shipping
This phone is amazing! I still cant believe its only $180 on Amazon, Its almost too good to be true, I seen it running games and emulators twice as good as my galaxy s7 edge.
I have a Redmi Note 4x Global and it's a great cell phone. I was expecting something more than 5, but in that case I will keep on the 4x. Expected less or bezels or capacitive buttons. I expected improvement in the cameras, they look better, but still, not so much. The Cpu thought it would go for the 630 or 652 snap. But it's a great cell phone for the price
I was also expecting a little more, its a solid phone just a little boring. SD630 would have made it slighy more interesting and maybe a dual loudspeaker and slimmer bezels.
I think people's expectations are way too high. Redmi 5 Plus actually has better or similar screen to body ratio compared to many other more expensive 18:9 phones. E.g. Honor 7X, Oppo F5, Samsung A8 Plus etc... Also, 5 Plus has a slightly better screen to body ratio compared to Pixel 2 XL. You have to make a judgement by comparing it to devices that is sold for a similar price (I feel Chris have unrealistic standards). A couple of years ago Xiaomi and Leeco sold upper midrangers for budget price (Redmi note 3 Pro, Le Max 2) but this is clearly not the case anymore. You cant make any profit from that strategy (Leeco is now bankrupt). Screen to body ratio on Note 4x is 72.7%, on 5 Plus it is 77.4%. A rather good improvement if you ask me. 80 procent screen to body ratio (like OP5T) SD630 and USB-C seems a bit unrealistic if you consider the price of 5 Plus ($150 on goldway). Earlier this year, people complained about Note 4X since it had worse performance compared to Note 3 Pro but Note 4X sold like hot cakes anyway. Redmi 5 Plus will be a huge success for Xiaomi.
*Yes, for those asking I will be reviewing the Redmi Note 5* It's the Chiense version of the Indian Redmi 5 Pro but with a better camera (Samsung Galaxy S7 Samsung dual pixel focus sensor)
Why a Type C cable? Micro USB is fine, I already have microUSB cables and a charger that has USB A ports for charging cables. Type C will come but let it take time to do it. Apple jumped the gun with their all Type C approach. Their dongle hell is the consequence.
Wire Rubbish Bin Type-C is also much stronger and will last much longer. The microusb 2 port on my Redmi note 2 went bad. It's only a new cable and you can use existing chargers and car chargers etc. Everyone else is also switching to type c even the other budget mobiles.
My MicroUSB port is fine after 4 years of use. I am upgrading phone now to a Leagoo S8 (it is not expensive but offers 4G and some other things that are useful) and it uses MicroUSB. I would not object to a TypeC port but I don't worry if I get a MicroUSB instead.
dude cmon i changed 4 type-c cables in half an year and my port now started glitching after 1.5 years of owning the phone. I'll gladly get back to the old port now :(
Emanuil Nedqlkov you need to buy better quality cables then. Also one of the advantages of type c is that it damages the cable rather than the port when abused. So you can change the cable rather than the device's port to make it a cheaper repair. Plus it is reversible and doesn't have some spring mechanical that could wear out over use. A lot of my microusb cables became loose and thus near unusable although they still have a great connection. And it has better transfer speeds and should support faster charging because of better current carrying capacity. Only con I have with them is they are a lot more thick and thus stiff.
Can't really put soft-keys down as a con as it's personal preference. Phone looks pretty nice. Included case is also a nice bonus. Looking forward to a global version...
This mobile is also known as the Redmi 5 Plus Prime. But really it's just a Redmi Note 4 with a 2:1 aspect ratio screen. I was correct the first time, the tops and bottom are plastic! And no Quickcharge support, the chipset supports it but it's disabled. You think I'm being harsh on the build, but you forget the Mi Max 2 and Mi 5X both with similar price and spec (Mi Max 2 has the same chip) have unibodies, dual loudspeakers and Type-C.
Not to mention that the Mi A1 (5X android one) is actually slightly cheaper in 4/64GB config and it's got many more LTE bands. And the Mi Note 3 has the 660 CPU, 6/64GB for 70-100CAD more than the 4/64GB redmi 5 plus. It's not "bezelless" but it does have smaller than "average" bezels. I'm now done with the Redmi Note series with this relative disappointment. USB-C and 630 equipped redmi 5 plus for the same price? Maybe then.
How much happened in 4 years is just astonishing. I have poco x3 pro now, still it misses an amoled screen but other than that I have more than a flagship device from 4 years ago. Wonder how much going to change in next 4 years. I have no clue but it's exciting.
Great review. Pretty much what I expected after the launch specs. I'll be sticking with my Note 4X and hoping Xiaomi bring it out a true successor next year.
Show me where the Redmi 5 PLUS (the bigger one) with 4gb ram 64gb rom (the one he is showing) is for 150$ and I will order 10000 units now!!!!! I will sell them for 200 and make "Buku Bucks" EDIT: You are probably refering to the redmi 5 which is smaller, has 1/3 slower CPU (snap 425), 1/4 smaller battery and only 2gb of ram (which is not enough nowdays) and 32gb rom - in short... you are talking about different phone.
Rafal Borowski Please go to xiaomi Chinese official online store and check it out. Now only 32G version is avilable and sells 999RMB-150dollars. Yesterday all products online have 100RMB discount. that is 899RMB-136Dollars. Red MI 5 plus exactly. The smaller Red MI 5 starts from 120 dollars. I just don't know how to paste screenshot here for you.
Yes & no, it's also 2018 almost. It should be a standard and how much would it cost them more per unit to use, $2-3 more? Certainly not a deal breaker.
For everyone who wants to jump on that c-type train, there's the A1, which is about 20€ more. I personally stay with micro usb for now, every phone in my family has micro usb, so every charging cable is the right cable.
I have the impression that Xiaomi has cut corners wherever they could this time around (no USB type-C, no Snapdragon 630, neither super-thin profile nor extreme bezel-less design, quick charger not included) in order to come up with a big 18:9 device as cheap as possible for Christmas. In addition to the "trendy" screen, big battery, enough RAM and internal storage is what potential customers will probably appreciate the most anyways.
You're absolutely right, some things are to be expected from Redmi series phones. However, you may then think why not come up with a 3GB/32GB version instead? Although that version may be available as well...
I dont know why people keep talking about a Redmi Note 5, they have the Redmi 5 & 5 Plus, Mi A1/5X, where exactly would a note 5 fit in? what would it offer that none of those already do? if the consumer wanted something a bit better specs, you have the Mi Note 3, i dont see a place for a Note 5 unless its just a pure money grab & Cash in on the Note name as they already have all the bases covered with what they already have
its a good point, why would they kill a cash cow, but i cant see what they can release that will be a viable entry into the line up that xiaomi has already, the only reason i can see a Redmi note 5 being released is purely for a money grab
You talking about the Qualcomm SD835 pcs they recently launched? Always on has been around for a while before them. But yes I plan to check out the new Qualcomm Windows 10 PC's
Does anybody knows what tampered rom exactly means i was about to buy this phone but i saw reviews about the redmi 5 plus tampered roms. Please help me out guys.
Well I just bought two last week for me and my husband and we think its a great phone... We longer use our iphone and decided to use redmi. It's our 1st time buying and using it and we are satisfied. Our was three pin for fast charge, and lastly we are common people doesn't need very high technology phone. Above all it's cheap and satisfying to use. 😀
Pretty nice phone. Now I'm mad at myself for spending $1200 on Note8. But I ordered this one anyway, I might sell my Note8 if R5+ will be good enough. Camera quality looks really nice. Specs are really nice too. Here for 165 USD You can get a phone with 512MB of ram and like 4gb storage + a dual core CPU from MTK that gets like 10k in Antutu. So this one is a really good deal. It will also get tons of custom roms. Best mid end phone of 2017. Awesome review :).
Dmendes I was thinking about that. Mi Mix 2 is a sexy phone. But it's difficult to sell my N8 cause prices dropped a lot and I would get barely half of what I paid for it. But next year I will choose Mi Mix 3 or OP6/T or maybe Pixel 3 XL. But probably Mi Mix 3 or OP6 because I like custom Android UI etc.
mobai123 Sure! I will. I had Redmi 4X before and it was a great phone until I had some accident with it. That's why I bought this one. So far it looks like it will be a great replacement for R4X. And I will tell You everything in like 2-3 weeks because of Chinese shipping times during Christmas.
I'd buy it if the screen edges weren't rounded, that's not how modern screens work. Old screens from the 50s were rounded on the edges by necessity but nowadays we can get perfect screens that show all they are supposed to show.
Got a redmi 5 plus yesterday. First choice was mi max 2 but it was out of stock. No regrets though. It feels good in the hands. Gaming experience is so far okay. Only issue so far is the gps. It doesnt work well although i have an LTE signal. Will need to turn the airplane mode on and off. But so far so good. Highly recommended. :)
Additionally, I'd like to make a suggestion, or maybe just get your opinion on it: have you tried using a mirror to simultaneously show on video both the screen and your finger when placing it on a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor? I think it could make a useful addition to your reviews so people could clearly see how slow or fast a device unlocks. Not sure how difficult would it be to set the scene up so it looks great though.
That's an idea, but I think people can see its fast as you can also hear that unlock beep or should. And I think my word on how fast it is too is enough. But thank you for the suggestion maybe I can impliment that

I recently bought the xiaomi mi notebook pro. and Jesus christ, its the best laptop ive ever held. I love it. The only negative thing is that the screen is not for gaming. Its still a good screen, just not for gaming. But its not even made for gaming so who cares. Just a point i wanted to point out. I really hope Xiaomi breaks into Europe market! :O
Turns out the Redmi 5 Plus is actually the Redmi Note 5, we've been waiting for... ∆.∆ Edit: Not only Redmi Note 5, Note 5 Pro is also coming. Well done Xiaomi!
Bro im my country it previous version costs around 9000 ruppes & the new version will cost around that too(it hasent change since years) 3/32 gb variant so it converts to around 130$.
Nick Firdaus it's not a note tho... Usually Redmi series comes with SD400 series of chips, so it's a pleasant surprise to have SD625 on redmi 5 plus! It'll probably replace the the note 4... I don't think that's a good plan tho, unless they are trying to up the Redmi note series game... That'll also jack up the price!
Just a little thing, QC 3.0 requires a USB-C Connector, since there is no USB-C it can't have QC 3.0. And I think no Redmi ever had something else in the box then a 5V 2A Charger. Or am I wrong?
Is it really thtat good? Cous it is actually really cheap, 145 in my country. Would it be good replacement for galaxy s5? Cous I'm looking for a good bugdet phone
I think they are reserving SD630 or higher for the note series.... Personally I don't mind SD625 coz it'll just replace redmi note 4 in most cases! Actually I'm in love with that chip! Used redmi 4 prime - probably the most stable chip Qualcomm has ever build in the mid-series. Especially that battery life!!😍
Things about this smartphone and Quick Charge are pretty confusing to me. On some review I read it supports QC 2.0, other one says it does not have Quick Charge. Can you test it with charger and confirm what version does it have. Thank you, enjoying your videos
I'm not sure its worth my $380 investment in it. It will have a lot of Chinese in it, be hard for me to sell and there is no way I could recover the cost of buying it.

I'm never buying a top flagship when I have this channel to save me so much money
So fast! Great review!
What else do you want at this price? Don't say disappointing every single time!
right. we have to consider this is only a 150$ phone and no other company is offering features like these at this this price
I'm comparing it to the Redmi Note 4X and then the Mi Max 2 and Mi 5X which for around the same price has unibodies, dual loudspeakers and type-c ports. See what I'm getting at now.
You can get the redmi note 4 for cheaper and same spec stfu. Xiaomi cash grab for 18:9 loosers
DrScopeify lg did it first with G6 noob
Sean Smith Xiaomi "cash grab" the fuk you talking about

Finally! Waited for this before picking it up. Thanks Daddy.
Basically a redmi note 4x with more screen only. I still want one.
Been waiting for a review of this phone. Thanks!
Though this is the successor to the redmi 4, the Redmi Note 5 is supposed to come early next year
I have Redmi Note 3 and i have 650. The problem is... Redmi Note 4 625, Redmi 5 Plus 625, Mi A1 625, Mi MAX 1 650, Mi MAX 2 625... Why??
miguelburgos98 Same, I am currently using the Redmi Note 3, and using 625 continuously is odd, I do hope the Note 5 has the 630/660 with type C

Note 5 will probaly be released in the begining of 2018. I will be a slight improvement over 5 Plus, perhaps SD630, USB-C and and better cameras.
i dont think we will get a Note 5, instead i think it will be a 5 Plus Pro, slight upgrades over the 5 Plus but nothing too much
But the Note-series had been a massive hit for Xiaomi, why would they kill that line?
its a good point, why would they kill a cash cow, but i cant see what they can release that will be a viable entry into the line up that xiaomi has already, the only reason i can see a Redmi note 5 being released is purely for a money grab

My dad bought me redmi 5 plus in 2018 but i still have it great phone
waiting for this! good job
Awesome review :).
tell us later your experience with the phone, I'm looking to buy one too
You could sell the note 8 and buy a mi mix 2
Dmendes I was thinking about that. Mi Mix 2 is a sexy phone. But it's difficult to sell my N8 cause prices dropped a lot and I would get barely half of what I paid for it. But next year I will choose Mi Mix 3 or OP6/T or maybe Pixel 3 XL. But probably Mi Mix 3 or OP6 because I like custom Android UI etc.
I dont know if you like it but what about mi note 2 or mi note 3.
mobai123 Sure! I will. I had Redmi 4X before and it was a great phone until I had some accident with it. That's why I bought this one. So far it looks like it will be a great replacement for R4X. And I will tell You everything in like 2-3 weeks because of Chinese shipping times during Christmas.
Good one ............ Waiting for the RNote 5 :D
No Giveaways this time???
No giveways, I got lots of hate from other TH-camrs for it. As a cheap way to gain subs.
I recently bought the Meizu M6 note and although it doesn't carry the 18:9 screen ratio, it's by far the best phone in this category!!!!
Agree, the camera is pretty special on the Note 6
Just bought this phone, I'm looking forward to using it as my daily driver smartphone once it has arrived at my apartment in the coming days.
I'm currently using Xiaomi Mi4i since 2015...I will purchase between this, Redmi Note 5 or older Redmi Note 4
Hazman I'd go for redmi 5. Which ever is cheaper
Hazman oh it's u. Lol
Hazman Buy Mi A1.
MIUI is great, but stock is always better.
Will you review Ulefone Power 3, Smartisan Nut Pro 2 or 360 N6 Pro ? I find these smartphones to be very interesting.
Awesome review! Does it have double tap 2 wake feature?
Yes it does, part of MIUI
Nice and detailed review 👍
Hi love watching your vids. Could you tell me what was that engineering menu that showed vendors of the hardware?
Hey, great review as always!! I don't recall you saying if there was a headphone jack.. Is there one?
Zulfadli Yahya there is one :)
Filip Frackiewicz awesome!! Thanks!!
I hope they will Make The Redmi note 5 much better. And i still prefer 16:9 over 18:9 displays. Good video :)
Mi too I prefer 16:9 and hardware nav keys
Unfortunately, all big companies now go for software keys and 18:9. A really sad development.
Hi, thanks for the review. In your view, how does this device compare with the Xiaomi 1a?
I wouldnt say this is one of the greatest bezel less master piece phone
TheLightning03 it's not bezel less though lol
Additionally, I'd like to make a suggestion, or maybe just get your opinion on it: have you tried using a mirror to simultaneously show on video both the screen and your finger when placing it on a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor? I think it could make a useful addition to your reviews so people could clearly see how slow or fast a device unlocks. Not sure how difficult would it be to set the scene up so it looks great though.
That's an idea, but I think people can see its fast as you can also hear that unlock beep or should. And I think my word on how fast it is too is enough. But thank you for the suggestion maybe I can impliment that
Do you live in Denia or are were you just on holiday? I am in Torrevieja
Nice video .
How big otg pendrive does it support?
Upto 64 gb? ??

I recently bought the xiaomi mi notebook pro. and Jesus christ, its the best laptop ive ever held. I love it. The only negative thing is that the screen is not for gaming. Its still a good screen, just not for gaming. But its not even made for gaming so who cares. Just a point i wanted to point out. I really hope Xiaomi breaks into Europe market! :O
Im using this phone after S7 and im not regreting at all, definetily one of the best phones i've ever used.
Should I get this phone or the Mi A1 or the Honor 7x?
Also, does anyone know where to get the U.S version of the Honor 7x besides the Honor website?
mia1
millionfish animation mia1
mi 5X doesn't have european LTE bands tho
Honor 7x. Its very good phone.
millionfish animation i have same question like you
Hi nice hands on btw, is this support qc?
what is the software u use to check for the camera brand?
watching from my redmi 5 plus 😂.
Absolutely admire it. Satisfied for sure.
how is the camera
waited for this
I think it's Good moment to buy RN4 :-)
CZARNYEU Why??
Very very nice reviews
Thanks thanks and thanks! I love your reviews! You are honest and fast! Mmmmmmmmuaaah from Kashmir India brother!!!
Really Nice phone.. was waiting for the screen protector to arrive. And what did I do the day before it arrived?? Smashed it to pieces 😩
great review bro,,..
What is 2nd mic for?
Thank you!
Great .. i bought it last week. Waiting for the delivery.
A nice phone, just really a Redmi Note 4X with a 2:1 screen. So nothing really new.
What is the point of rounded screen corners, if there are huge bezels on the top and on the bottom?
Cojoc MC just to make it smoother
would you remove the blurry plastic film on the screen when brand new?
Hi, I think it dont have compass sensor, sky maps app. Does Sky maps app run ok in this smartphone??? Thanks
Turns out the Redmi 5 Plus is actually the Redmi Note 5, we've been waiting for... ∆.∆
Edit: Not only Redmi Note 5, Note 5 Pro is also coming. Well done Xiaomi!
It isn't. Remember they won't release Note 5A if Note 5 isn't coMing. ;)
Gangadhar hi Shaktiman nikla yaar 😂😂
Yup. They killed the "Note" line and replaced with "Plus"
Va
lol in dreams, note 5 will come in january
Hi sir..does note 5 Ai support full screen in gaming such as tekken and kritika the white knights..tnx..good job sir😀
Hi Chris, do you know anything about redmi note 5? It should have b20 radio fm and IR sensor, but I think it might overlap redmi 5 plus
I think u r expecting too much for a $120 smartphone.
It's $220 (4gb/64gb) and $180(3gb/32gb)
Bro im my country it previous version costs around 9000 ruppes & the new version will cost around that too(it hasent change since years) 3/32 gb variant so it converts to around 130$.
Which app are you using to see the phone parts maker?
Wish it comes with at least snapdragon 630 or 660 as an option. Xiaomi really have skimped on chipset of choice on the note lineup since redmi note 4.
Abu Taleb owhh yeaaa forgot that this is not note lineup
Abu Taleb but still its a good budget alternative
I would gladly have 625 (very low battery usage - super high SoT) but shame it does not have NFC (Android Pay) or at least USB C
Just a little thing, QC 3.0 requires a USB-C Connector, since there is no USB-C it can't have QC 3.0. And I think no Redmi ever had something else in the box then a 5V 2A Charger. Or am I wrong?
It doesn't require Type-C, but no it doesn't support quick charging at all. It's disabled
Holy shit! How the hell this company sells this premium phone for only $150?! I'm very impressed.
so in your opinion, which one do you prefer for me to buy, redmi note 4 or redmi note 5 plus? hope you can reply my questions 😅
I love these Xiaomi phones. My Redmi 3 has been excellent.
Especially that battery life!!😍
It's also one of my favorite chips an also perfect balance of power, features and battery life.
Things about this smartphone and Quick Charge are pretty confusing to me. On some review I read it supports QC 2.0, other one says it does not have Quick Charge. Can you test it with charger and confirm what version does it have. Thank you, enjoying your videos
support qc 2, with supported qc 2 charger. the charger included on the phone don't support it
How about doing the 360 N6 Pro for the next review? For the price it's pretty compelling
I'm not sure its worth my $380 investment in it. It will have a lot of Chinese in it, be hard for me to sell and there is no way I could recover the cost of buying it.
TechTablets.com Never considered that Chinese bloatware. I get it, keep up the good, honest review
Hows the music quality via headphone jack?
Static free and clear. Could be louder
