Thanks bud, I really appreciate ya taking the time to show in detail the process of switching out the sensor. Mines leaking and making the oil light go on and off... Half hour u say on this job....

This video you made was such a time saver!!!!! I watched some guy on TikTok, he took his bumper off then his manifold. It looked like he took out his radiator also. So question about this all, I’ve had a slight oil leak and it seems to be coming from the pressure sensor, does the o ring go bad over time? I have my starter off, just curious if I should replace that and biggest question. Will tons of oil flow out if I take it off???

Did this yesterday. I completely removed the starter. I just spun the starter around and removed the 13mm nut. Made it easier. Not a good design. The oil pressure sensor was shorting out one of the 5v reference lines, causing no communication with the ecm. Was also a source of a pretty big oil leak through the connector. Thanks again.

Do you happen to know where any of the gallery plugs are i wanna and a mechanical gauge to my Aura it has the Lz4 as well but everything i found just tells me to use one of the free gallery plugs without mentioning where they're at and i really would like to avoid any kind of unnecessary risk of disco oil from drilling and/or tapping (metal flake goes in the paint not oil lol)

Sorry, not sure where the galley plugs are on them... sold that car several years ago.

Could that cause the car to not start

Tristen - I don't think it would keep it from starting.

Thanks for the video. Got a code for this today and was dumbfounded by the location it was in. I thought the same thing...remove the starter for a lot easier access.

I am relatively new to trying to repair my own vehicle. It was too hot today but I did the oil change and I decided to try to replace this switch... I didn't remove the starter and I had a few sparks... I figured I probably should have disconnected the battery first. I didn't attempt to replace the switch after that but I noticed when I removed the connector that it was saturated in oil. Is that from the seal leaking in the switch and does it fowl the connector as well?

I did this without removing the starter. Disconnect the battery and unplug the connector on the starter and the oil pressure sender. Used an oil sender socket. It has a hex end and 3/8" square drive. I used an open end wrench to turn it out instead of a ratchet.

Do you have to drain the oil to replace this??

  • @jkidney85
    @jkidney85  8 ปีที่แล้ว

Joshua - Kudos for trying! Follow everything I point out in the right order and it should go very smooth for you (including step 1 - disconnect the battery :) ). If you have to, write each step down and use as reference as you go.
As far as the oil goes, it's quite possible that the sensor is the cause. There is a small o-ring that seals it that may be leaking a bit. For the low cost of the sensor I would just go ahead and replace it. Hopefully you get some cooler weather... good luck!

What was your car doing because on my Pontiac g6 3.5l the oil light comes on blinks like 3 times and it goes away this happens like Obed or two time a day

    • @jkidney85

Zippyrain 09 - Sorry, I wish I could remember the details... It's been a few years now. I do remember the dash light coming on. However, I think it stayed on. You may want to have it scanned for a code to cross-reference. Good luck!

I have the same car and my sensor keeps coming on and I have the part at home I just have to jack it up and see where it's at , so is it really easy to fix ?

Thanks for the video! This was the only one I could find for my 2007 Pontiac G6 GT. I think there may be a slight variation for the 3.9L. I only had one bolt for the piece that protects the starter and fly wheel connection, and there is an other metal bracket piece 3 bolt piece on the front of the oil pan under the starter/fly. I did not take off that piece not knowing what it was exactly. The part was $25 at NAPA.
Thanks again. By contrast to the video, I did mine yesterday during the Phoenix summer and my garage was at least 115. But I'll take triple digits over singles any day :)...

Made it all the way to the actual removal of the pressure sensor. The 1 1/16 drive just doesn't turn this sensor nut. I feel like I need to remove the oil filter and housing to just get a wrench on it. Anyone else have this issue?

Bill - Thanks for adding pointers describing the differences on the 3.9L GT. Glad this at least pointed out the basics to get you going.
I don't know, 115 in Phoenix sounds equally miserable! There must be something more comfortable in between 5 and 115. :)

  • @jkidney85

Chad - Bummer! Mine didn't leakat all, it either wasn't sending a signal or the signal was bad. I had a service engine warning and the code showed an issue with oil pressure. After replacing sensor/sending unit, the warning light went away and I've been good since.
Hope you get yours figured out!

thanks for the upload! did your sensor come with a new o ring ? or do you reuse the old one?

    • @jkidney85

fruition - The new one came with a new o-ring. If you bought one that didn't come with an o-ring I'd take it back and ask for a replacement.

Typical mechanic want to take off parts that you don't need I changed one of these without even touching the starter it's not even necessary
