    Hi Tom, the main functionality that I think is missing from the Tesla charger is the ability to monitor power export and adjust charging to take advantage of solar generation. This is the reason I bought a Zappi charger which works really well.

    Thanks Tom, useful review. For the future I would like to see the Gen 3 include as standard the solar aware smart functionally available in the open source TWCManager (which works with Gen 2) and for the Gen 3 to include a documented local API to allow control and monitoring for 3rd party integration.

    I would like to be able to set Schedule charging and Schedule departure together. 11PM to start charging to utilize off peak rates, 8AM in the morning for the school run so the battery is pre-heated to utilize regen braking. Right now in winter during the entire school run, I don't have regen braking and I can't do both Schedule charging and Schedule departure together and have to pick one, so have picked schedule charging to utilize off peak rates specially as I don't generate enough solar to charge the car.

    Hi Tom, I’ve just ordered the BYD Seal Premium and am looking at getting the Tesla charger for home. I’ve used the Tesla Gen 3 charger with my Seal with no issues as well as the Ocular charger. If you just need a no-nonsense AC charger with a simple scheduler then the Tesla Gen 3 will suffice. If you need a more complex scheduler for different days of the week then you’ll need something like the Ocular range - it will also allow you to export your usage for tax/accounting purposes

    • @LudicrousFeed

      Most mobile connectors - Tesla branded or otherwise will natively support 10/15A. There are special tails that you can purchase that can support up to 5-pin/32A sockets via the Tesla Mobile Connector. You don’t necessarily need a battery to install an AC wall connector. • @LudicrousFeed
      @LudicrousFeed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The PW/Tesla gateway is single phase. Our solar is slightly more complicated - 1x single phase string inverter on Phase 1; Enphase micro inverters on Phase 2. They are all net metered and can be monitored via either the Tesla and/or Enphase apps. Domestic loads are balanced between the three phases with important areas eg kitchen on the same phase as PW/Gateway. The Tesla Gen 3 Wall Connector is a 3-phase device and acts as any other 3-phase appliance would in the house eg central AC

    Hey Tom, nice video (as per usual). Just a couple of observations. When you did the setup using the QR code, that is an apple native thing (worked because you were using an iPhone). same QR magic doesn't happen natively with Android phones. One pain I would mention is that once you have the wall connector attached to you home wifi network, you can't access the wall connector from your home wifi network. When you attempt to access it from your home wifi network you get the following notification "To edit the system's configuration, connect to the Wall Connector's access point". It's irritating to have to manually switch between your home wifi and the wall connector's wifi.

My question is, if solar panels are providing power to the house anyway, isn't the Tesla charger simply drawing from that solar power source that the house is using? How can it be more "aware" than just using whatever power is available?

    Hey Tom, just a note to say thanks for this video - I have just installed my Gen 3 and had my first new Tesla (Model 3 RWD) delivered today. You vid was perfect for setup and update advice (including firmware). Yes I now live in an apartment complex and therefore have mine set to not just Tesla only, but now you can set specific VIN# 's, so no one else can steal your power. I wouldn't have done this if other Tesla owners in my complex (with Gen 2 chargers) had not told me about people stealing power from their charges...sad isn't it. So I advise all Tesla owners to get the Gen 3 if you can afforded it to control this function - especially in apartments / shared basements. Keep these great vid's coming mate!

    In a few weeks time when both chargers are installed on the wall, could you do a video showing how long it takes to charge from 5% to 95% at home for the Model 3? Maybe if you could also another time charge both cars at the same time (both going from 5% to 95%) so see how long it takes and whether it effects the rest of your house? Many may want to know both these scenarios as a lot probably want to charge at home as they drive around for the week for work and other activities

      Yup, that'd be a good test!

      @@LudicrousFeed cause I think a lot of people want to charge at home as they do something at home, or in the night, than drive somewhere just to charge charge at a fast charger in a carpark or a shopping centre, so it they see time taken they might spend that extra money on the unit and the electrcian

      Yes charging at home is the best option for many

      @@LudicrousFeed yeah for sure, many people who have got an EV but are living in apartments or a rental where they cant install a home wall charger keep mentioning that they would really like to have a 22 kw charger cable next to where they park their car so that they can save a lot of time

    Tom quck question. I'm seeing alot of home chargers showing a model 3 charging at 48A. the site is showing 32amp max home charging. Im getting the Gen 3 installed in the coming days for the 2022 M3P coming hopefully mid feb. is the charging rate lower on the SR+ only or has tesla dropped the rate for all model 3 versions? thanks again.

      I guess it depends whether you have single or 3-phase into the house? For all Model 3 variants, single phase is 7kW whereas 3-phase is 11kW max. Best to check with your installer

    If the Gen 3 is connected to your Wifi, can you access the Wall connector configure page from your local PC browser, being on the same wifi network?
