Coil the cord with larger, but fewer loops. I have the long cord too, even though I usually don't need the full length. My loops are large enough that when I park in my normal spot I don't even have to remove a second loop. It makes hooking and stowing SOOOOO much easier. And a bonus is that with fewer loops the plug is less obstructed when returning the plug to its holder.

Jordan, you can open the charge flap without your phone by pressing on it as if it’s a touchscreen, sort of like a normal fuel cap, lightly press on the flap and it’ll open (It’s a bit annoying when clearing the car in that area, opens every time the sponge goes over it). The app, the screen inside the car, and the Tesla charger button aren’t the only ways to open the flap. Great vid

Great video, lots of useful information.
One thing I find interesting is that when you connect to one of these via WiFi, L1 to N, L1 to E, N to E and earth impedance are all displayed.
My understanding of an O-PEN device is it monitors L-N and cuts all 3 if it goes out of the window. Given the Tesla gen 3 is clearly already monitoring this data (and more) it would appear quite straightforward for them to include o-pen monitoring via an ota update, which would be a game changer for UK installations.
I'd love to hear what you think about this!

The only benefit is the radio tag / button to open the cover remotely saving you the time to open the charger door and enabling the charger. It’s neat, but it’s not a CCS or J1772 “Level 2” AC plug.
You won’t be able to use the Tesla plug with a non-Tesla. The pins are different to the J1772 standard. There are extensions and sockets to convert them, ie travel adaptors, but the charger has to be enabled manually for the non-Tesla car. Super chargers won’t work, because the radio tag identifies the car and charger remotely for billing.
If you have a second car, you may need additional 32A cabling to a second circuit, or a 40A/63A circuit which can be shared/load balanced. This usually requires both EVSE units monitoring each other’s usage with a communication cable (RS485 modbus) and/ or CT clamp to detect and balance the load for each unit to avoid surge or overloading the charger/circuit.
This way you can share a Tesla and non-Tesla wall charger in the same garage, only one needs to be the “slave” which compromises charging speed, but if they communicate together, they will usually negotiate the capped charge rate or step down to half so one will take priority, sic
If you have 3-phase, you can get ~11kw on the Tesla charger, across 2 wall chargers, as they will talk to each other (RS485 modbus) for circuit/load balancing.

Here's the thing about the button.... 99% of the times you plug in, you've JUST got out of the car. So it's unlocked, and you can just press on the flap. Sticking with my Zappi. :-)

True. The issue isn't plugging-in it's unplugging that's when the button really helps. Having said that Tesla really ought to fix the software so the cable is unlocked when the car is unlocked.

Fair point but I rarely find it an issue. Getting your phone out and clicking the un-lock button is less of an aggro so long as you remember to do ti whilst walking to your car. :)

If I were British or if you were here in the USA, near where I live, you would be my choice for an electrician. I love how you explain things even down to us non-electricians.

Another excellent video Jordan (not a bad French accent either) I have a MY on order and want to want a Tesla Wall Connector. This review of the Gen 3 is just what I needed to hear - thank you. A shame though that a separate PEN detection device is required. A couple of questions please:
    1. What (minimum) size cabling would you recommend? 2. Can you make a recommendation for an installing electrician, for the Tesla WC, in London SW18?

Just switching to EV and you’ve been very helpful throughout. We haven’t been a standard job as new UK Network supply to a separate garage. 🧐 v challenging. Just a quick thanks really as helped make sense of tech jargon! If you can travel to SG1 without breaking the budget may yet use you for the wall charger in this video. Keep it up!

Great video and helped me to fit my Tesla charging point, plus PEN fault detector, through a 32amp MCB in the garage and into the house consumer unit which I’m changing for an all RCBO UNIT, my question is, the Tesla wall charging point can’t use an additional RCBO because I has its own integral one, do I fit a RCB and a 40 amp MCB in the house consumer unit or is there another way, keep up the good work, Steve…

Great video, I just got mine and was a little concerned about the two screws in the top and rain, seems like the nook would gather a small pool of water... but maybe I'm just needlessly worrying? Any how thanks again for a great video 😊💪

HI Jordan - great video and many thanks for posting. I want to install the Tesla wall connector, but have a TN-C-S supply, Earth rods/Mat are not really an option, and from my research the PEN fault devices available for 1Ph supplies do not really comply with BS7671:2018 Amd 1. I'm guessing that the Zappi is the best option? Thanks
