Simple Minds have been musical pioneers for 40 glittering years. Catching the mood of the post-punk era, when the angry sounds of 1977 were splintering into a thousand different shapes, they emerged with a style rooted in the art-rock of David Bowie and the electronic dance of Donna Summer. They went on to become one of the great bands of their generation, deploying rousing choruses and booming atmospherics to provide a soundtrack that has endured. They topped the American chart with Don't You (Forget About Me) and followed suit in the UK with the Ballad Of The Streets EP (featuring Belfast Child). In selling over 60 million records, they have seen three of their 20 studio albums reach number one in the UK - Sparkle In The Rain, Once Upon A Time and Street Fighting Years - a chart-topping feat equalled by their live album Live In The City Of Light and the compilation Glittering Prize. A spellbinding touring band, they have graced the world's biggest stadiums. They starred at Live Aid and played three momentous London shows in honour of Nelson Mandela. The past decade has also seen a remarkable resurgence, their world-class credentials acknowledged by a Q magazine Inspiration award in 2014 and an Ivor Novello in 2016. They are now marking their 40th anniversary with a world tour, live album and career-spanning compilation.

Huge congrats for the 40th anniversary tour..... How do I explain Simple Minds? 🤔They have helped create absolutely amazing memories throughout the decades and songs that will last a lifetime. Sarah, Berenice and Cherisse - as noted elsewhere here - add so much in terms of visual and sonic energy to an already great band. And yes, it must be such a thrill to play to a hometown audience thrilled to have seen its local lads make good.

Presente at the Verona Arena, beautiful concert..It was a crescendo of emoticons for the Splendid evening (13000 fans in delirium, the audience that praisies Jim Kerr) a journey along a whole career with the songs that have marked eros and generations. The band knew of the great anticipation and have more than 100 percent..It was an act of love for all of US presente. Unforgettable ..I Hope you Will come back to the Verona again!!Great!!!!!!

Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill walk into a bar in Glasgow. And Jim says; "What'll you have, Charlie?" And Charlie says; "I'll have a pint please, Jim." So Jim says to the barman; "Pint for Charlie there. How much is that?" And the barman says; "That'll be four pounds, Jim." So Jim pulls out some change and goes; "One... Two..." And everyone in the bar goes; "One. Two. Three. Four!"

Was there that last night and was blown away..... so much so that went to summer sessions In princess Street Gardens Edinburgh and was bloody fab. Cherise you are brilliant and you burst a drum you were playing so hard it was an AMAZING night in a fab setting in best city in the world under the castle. I bet the crowd who went to see the tattoo were gutted they weren't at simple minds instead lol

I have to mention how cool the jacket Jim is wearing happens to be....
Great band. Seen them so many times the best gig I saw was Bridlington Spa. We even met Jim in a hotel in Sheffield and had a chat to him at breakfast. As we left to get in the lift we got in and Andy Mclusky OMD got out

@@brucefindlay no sh*t Sherlock! I first saw SM in '79 or '80, memory is hazy nowadays, I imagine you were schoolhouse management who I had a brief dealing with around the OUAT album. This current lot are a tribute band at best & still flogging the horse.

Ha ha...well, they're doing incredibly well for a 'tribute band'.
As it happens, I think this is the best rhythm section they've had, since Brian and Derek.
The first 5 LPs are the ones I like best....and these years ( 79 /82).but hey, there are millions of fans who only know Simple Minds from the time Mel joined.

My favourite band of all time……. I know life moves on and we all get older but I do struggle to connect with the ever changing line up of the band.. I keep thinking wouldn’t it be great to see Mel, mick, and for me Malcom foster do one more gig.. just for us older ones
