Welcome back to my channel, today is a special day! Here's a quick preview of the brand new track-only Ferrari 296 GT3 being tested in Fiorano. Many of you asked me about this car in the past months and... here it is!
Unfortunately my camera wasn't available at the moment, but luckily some friends recorded the clips with a DSLR and a cellphone!
The car is the successor to the hugely successful 488 GT3 (a model with 107 titles to its name from a staggering 429 wins and 770 starts) and has been built in conjunction with Oreca.
A statement from Ferrari said that ‘the day’s programme alternated between sessions of laps on the track and stages when the 296 GT3 was checked by the technicians’.
Factory Ferrari drivers Alessandro Pier Guidi and Andrea Bertolini took turns behind the wheel of the car, which ran in a scarlet and black camo livery and features a six-cylinder engine but with no electrical hybrid system, unlike the road-going version.
“Today marks the occasion of GT racing becoming part of our future and it’s a special moment,” said Stefano Coletta, the boss of Ferrari’s Attivita Sportive GT department. “We chose to carry out the first tests in Fiorano because it’s our home and to allow the people who worked on the project to share a very special emotion.
The 296 GT3 will be introduced to competition in the GTE classes next year in a parallel programme to the new Le Mans Hypercar in the FIA World Endurance Championship, which heralds Ferrari’s return to the top class at the Le Mans 24 Hours - a race it has won overall on nine occasions, the last coming in 1965.
That car is being developed by AF Corse and is expected to hit the Fiorano test track in June.
During the Rolex 24 at Daytona in February, Coletta told Motorsport.com: “For us, the most important anniversary is that 2023 is 50 years since we last raced in prototypes, the best and most important category.
“When Ferrari chose to be involved in the top class, it just had to be in Le Mans Hypercar. Ferrari has made all the cars in its history, so no choice really, this is our philosophy.
“I can say our project is going ahead very fast. It’s very complicated, because the LMH is more complicated than the LMDh, but this is what we have chosen. Our technicians have already created a map of the test programme.”

It's strange to hear a V6 in a modern Ferrari, but wow the GT3 version of the 296 sounds really good. GG Ferrari, hope it turns out to be a successful racing car.

@@jamiea8318 Yeah kinda. Of course I miss the screaming V8s with blown diffusers roaring while they downshift, but this raucous, low-pitched sound V6 F1 cars have is still really good to me.

Sounds less of the baby v12 it was marketed as and more of how a v6 really sounds like unfriendly
No hybrid
So this is the next one. As a Ferrari Fan I'm a little sad it's no longer Michelotto doing the Ferrari GT cars and rather Oreca took up the mantle for this one. Doesn't have too much of the Italian Flair the 488 had, but I'm willing to look past it and pray Ferrari Keeps up the pace they've garnered this past year in GT3. The V6 is also REALLY nice to listen to, better the NSX even. Growls a lot more and is a bit lighter in tone, very much looking forward to seeing it at Daytona come 2023 along with the 992 GT3 R. I also know the Huracan is doing an Evo but they said it'll be done in 2024 instead

The 488 didn't really wake up until the Modificata let that V8 loose. "Flair" is too subjective to quantify, and holding anything to the standard the 458 set for sound is just gonna set a fella up for disappointment every time.
The r8 and huracan sound better
Don’t worry, the Ferrari 296 gt3 is completely build in Italy, Oreca builds every car in an Italian Factory in witch I have the pleasure to work!
@@SkiRacingOz Aye, much more so. The AMG GT's naturally aspirated V8 trumps them all IMO.

Incredible how different the GT3 version sounds compared to the street model!
Because each cylinder bank has its separate exhaust system all the way to the end. With the street version the 2 exhausts join together at the end leading to a higher pitch sound

Because the good sounding GT3 cars aren’t turbo V6
I wish Ferrari added more aggressiveness to their road cars just like they're doing with their racing ones. Not making them too sharp but not keeping them too clean and "repetitive". I feel the current designers are missing that essential touch which Pininfarina used to add. Although the SP3 Daytona has to be one of the best looking 21st century Ferraris.

Giacché si parla di Ferrari e V6 rispondo in Italiano! Dovrebbe derivare dal V6 Maserati a sua volta derivato dal V6 Alfaromeo. Già il Maserati porta modifiche rispetto all’Alfaromeo, tra le quali la doppia accensione, questo sicuramente avrà dell’altro!

Maybe because the Giulia V6 is half a Ferrari engine?
@@pepuzzo8031 the layout is not the same and the production engine in the 296 sounds nothing like the Giulia. Clearly they did something different with the race engine.

Tbh it is so sad to see the v8 go. I wish Ferrari would make another mid engine na v8 car. I think we all miss the sound of the 458 and it’s good sounding screaming v8. If I were able to make a car for Ferrari, I’d make a new v8 that was na and revved up all the way to 12,000 rpm.

very disappointed with the sound, the road car sounds somewhat like a v12, i thought perhaps the race car would sound even more like a v12 but this thing sounds like your typical v6 gt3 car

488 GT3 Evo looks similar to the road 488 car. 296 GT3 is a complete different car to the road version. 296 GTB and SF90 don't really look like cars made by a brand known for hardcore racing and motorsport. They look like Ferrari borrowed designers from Ford/Corvette.

Regular 296s (GTB/GTS) need to get Liberty Walk'd or modded the hell out to be more like the GT3 counterpart. That's just me.
