Here's a little story I had ChatGPT write using this series as inspiration. Hope you like it! Prompt: "Starcraft II. Give me an adventure story from the perspective of a marine on the ground while a command center is flying over the battleground, settling down, and transforming into a planetary fortress." The marine crouched behind a pile of rubble, his Gauss rifle clutched tightly in his hands. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest as he watched the approaching zerg swarm. The command center was flying overhead, its engines roaring as it settled down on the ground. The marine knew that they were about to transform it into a planetary fortress, a heavily armed and fortified structure that could withstand even the most intense assaults. But before that could happen, they needed to hold off the zerg. The marine took a deep breath and aimed his rifle at the closest zergling. He squeezed the trigger, and the rifle barked as a burst of high-velocity rounds tore through the creature. But there were so many of them. The marine could see them pouring over the hills, their chittering cries filling the air. He fired again and again, taking down zerglings left and right, but it wasn't enough. They just kept coming. The command center had landed now, and the marine could see the technicians scurrying around, preparing the transformation process. He knew that they were racing against time. If the zerg got to them before the transformation was complete, they would be doomed. The marine gritted his teeth and fired his rifle again. He could feel his fingers growing numb from the recoil, but he didn't stop. He couldn't stop. He was fighting for his life, and for the lives of his fellow soldiers. Suddenly, there was a deafening roar as a baneling exploded nearby. The marine was thrown backwards, his ears ringing from the blast. He struggled to his feet, his head spinning, and saw that the zerg were almost upon them. The transformation was complete. The command center had become a planetary fortress, its massive guns swiveling to target the oncoming zerg. The marine grinned despite himself. They might just make it out of this alive after all. He raised his rifle and fired once more, his shots finding their mark with deadly accuracy. The zerg continued to pour towards them, but the marine knew that they had the upper hand now. They had the fortress, and they had each other. He took a deep breath and braced himself for the fight ahead. The battle wasn't over yet, but the marine was ready for whatever the zerg could throw at them. They were marines, after all. They could handle anything.
8:30 "kinda figure there's an observer here..." and you can see the blur right over the smokestack to the right of the army lol. Maybe he didn't snipe it this time but uthermal's observer sense is inspiring lol
I can't agree that this strategy being good enough for pro play is being disproved in any way - if you don't even have a precise build order or know which maps the strategy will (or will not) work well on, AND the strategy is still getting wins, then I have to err on the side of "This can work" until I see at least one shred of evidence that it doesn't. So far, I have not seen that. It looks like a 100% sound high-odds cheese that just needs more TLC and planning than this challenge is giving it. I'm thinking make some Widow Mines vs Protoss. The typical way you are getting into trouble is vs either a growing Stalker count that moves out, or against Phoenixes. If you play Widow Mines + Cyclones (or even Widow Mines + Tanks; vs Stalkers), you should be able to stabilize and even break their army sometimes. It'd give you better odds than what keeps happening. "More Hellions" doesn't ever seem to be working.
hey thermy, love youre videos brother, thank you for all the videos you post. i just want to say i really do miss when you lose you go over the replay to analyze mistakes and stratgey improving decisions that could have been made, that made your conten fkn chefs kiss. specially when its high af up the mmr pool like vs mixu. thank you friend!
Best Content! U have bring me back to sc2 Like 7 Weeks. I play random on low Master and if u have time i Would love too See How perfect standart openers Looks like . Only can 2 Different Builds and some cheeses. Greatings from Germany
Mr. Uthermal, I wish you recover after those games! I also has an idea fo you regarding PF rush vs Z: what if you could build CC slightly far off the OV scouting path, pull out a viking in the same time, push OVs away from the back of their main, then drag opponent's attention away from the landing spot. That way you'll probably be able to land safely between natural and third, or even maybe between the main and natural!
After all these proxy/speedrunning to grandmaster series, I'd love to see another challenge series that leans toward longer games, like ghosts to GM or marine/medivac to GM. Thanks for all the great content regardless! This series has been super fun!
pf rushing and speed-runs have been great, but I don't get my daily dose of uThermal. A challannge that results in 10-15 mins average game time would be nice :)
I feel like some of these are struggling because your challenge brain is kicking in HARD. Instead of doing a planetary rush, your doing planetary + additional cheese. g1 proxied a stargate with it, g2 tried to rush ghosts with it, neither of those work clearly. The real rush still working fine seemingly. Still enjoying this series and the content. thank you for the hard work!
8:33 "Its observer somewhere here. I just dont know where it is", and right at this time u can spot shimering at this strange thing close to the minerals on ur 5th Base that close to the slow zones-_-
It seems like you probably should have a variant in case Protoss is going into robotics facility, seems you usually struggle with immortals. Or maybe scouting if protoss goes robo or stargate and then decide on variant. (is that even possible?) Also, if you sometimes add turrets to the mix, how about adding bunkers once in a while? I havent played laddar in a long time so pls bear with me if my ideas are really bad. Anyway I 'm glad series is safe. Keep up a good work. 👍
Challenge idea: i really want to see what you can/would do with mass liberators? "Liberators only" would likely be impossible, so maybe "transformers" challenge with the units that transform - liberators, tanks, hellion/firebats, vikings?
with the problem getting landed, one should think you would put more thought into how far you fly the cc over enemies giving them time to react. just land at the closest possibel position .
I confess I got anxious about the video title cause I am particularly not very fan of cheese games, so I was excited a new challenge was about to be announced xD
I wonder if you need to reassess the overall purpose of the PF rush, at least against grandmaster zerg. So far, you have landed the PF to kill buildings and to contain them via the choke point outside the natural. What if you built it slightly further back and used it to control a lane to your base, thereby establishing some forward control? It will provide you room to macro behind it. You can treat it as a PF macro rather than a PF rush. It would provide vision and force the zerg to waste a lot of time either by trying to kill it or by having to run all the way around it.
