This song to me isn't something you can hear and stop and go. It's also a song that needs and has to be heard several times back to back. Each time it sends me thoughts to my mind to try and describe it, and you can't really ever do so fully. That's because that's what it's like when you see and hear perfection. First time hearing it, I don't think many are ready for it and where it takes you to. The second time you hear it, you know what's there and know the path it's about to take you down. And the third time even more so ready for that ride. There is all sorts of songs and all sorts of attitudes and feelings that are knocked out of the park from the ones singing them. But for sheer perfection and performance live at a time that there is no auto tone and things of that nature. I don't know if anything can beat this for perfection. It's like giving the spirit of love the microphone and telling it to go sing as hard and sincere as it can. It can't be any better than that. All I've just said. I could easily keep on with different ways to describe it each time hearing it, saying something different over and over again. This is something you can only do while trying to describe sheer perfection.

The story of why he wanted Lionel Richie to write a song for him is amazing in itself, especially for the era. This song is well written...but the uniqueness of Kenny Roger's voice pulled it off in a way that I don't even think Lionel could imagine. His delivery...the rapsy vocals, the country growl and pitch control is just as amazing now as it was then. No matter how many times I hear it, it still rips at the heart. So many number 1 songs and awards, yet he remained humble in the industry. I got to meet him three times, and it was always the same. He's ORIGINAL...He's a LEGEND...He is KENNY ROGERS!!! Rest Easy Sir!! Thanks for the Classics!!

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to meet and interact several times "thru the years" With Kenny and his wonderful family, and he is just as humble and genuine in person as he is on stage. RIP old friend, you are truly missed.

  • @dagnelpaula1

This IS such a beautiful song! And I have to agree...without bias, because a younger generation is discovering it, too...that the music of the 70s probably WAS the best of all time. (This one is just into the 80s, but maybe we can still count it.) Music was just different, back then. There wasn't the cheating of the Autotune, and all of that. The artists had to genuinely be good. And this man was. Just beautiful. And loved your reaction.

Not only was the song sooo good but your reaction was equally great....I love how you say what your thinking and usually with other reaction videos I watch, I like when they play it through and then talk, but your analysis...even at 3:00 am, and not even your last reaction of the day was very entertaining to me. Kenny was special..when I was 10 The Gambler came out and was a huge hit...1980. My friends and I would sing it together on bus going to school.
