"Coward of the County", "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town", "She Believes In Me", "You Decorated My Life", and "Lucille" are a few of my favorite Kenny Rogers songs.
Just make sure to listen to the complete version of CotC. There is a depressingly butchered version out there that makes me cringe every time a reactor listens to it.
Add "The Gambler" to that list and it's exactly what I would have recommended as well. EDIT: Oh yeah, I would also add "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)".
This is my favorite Kenny Rogers song. When my husband and I started courting in high school, I would call him my Knight and he would call me his Lady. Then this song came out in 1980. Needless to say, this was our wedding song when we got married in 1982. We were 18 yrs old. Happily married now for 39 yrs. Beautiful song.
For me this is one of the greatest live performances of ALLTIME. The man had so much soul and feeling in his voice. A magic combination of his voice on Lionels sublime songwriting and melody.
Two of my favorites are from his earlier days when it was Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. "Ruby (Don't Take Your Love to Town)'" and "Rueben James". Sadly, Kenny passed away on March 20, 2020, but he left a musical legacy.
Lionel and Kenny were best friends for about 40yrs until his recent death last year. _We've Got Tonight, She Believes In Me , Through the Years, The Gambler, Coward of the County_ are must listens!! So many great Kenny songs, the man was a Legend!!
This song encompasses all generations regardless of nationalities. Every woman wants her man to express the love of this song. Thank you for sharing a true classic.
Man this song hits differently now. I remember my mom singing this in our station wagon on the way home from grade school. I miss her singing this, deeply. Best part is, my wife walked in the kitchen while I was watching this. I grabbed her hand without explanation and we slow danced to this. That’s when I realized that no matter how good your relationship is, there’s no wrong time for some impromptu one on one love. Thanks, brother. This reaction touched me.
As far as writing style, you can't go wrong when Lionel Richie writes your song for you. Both Kenny and Lionel made this song a hit for themselves and they sang it together as a duet.
Kenny Rogers was on the Video you just reacted to, "USA for Africa - We are the World" he was the forth artist to appear. Kenny was primarily a Country music singer but had many crossover songs such as 'Lady". He won many awards (to many to list here) including 3 Grammys, 13 American Music Awards, 7 Academy of Country Music Awards. He was Inducted into the country music hall of fame in 2013. He was also an actor and starred in at least 12 made for TV movies, 2 theatrical movies and numerous guest starring roles on TV series. He died last year at age 81
Born and raised Oklahoma girl here way back in 1975 so as a child Up till now at 46 Kenny was and is a staple in my life. My mom has pictures of him in Vegas in the late 70’s. Legend!
Lady was actually written by Lionel Richie while he was living with Kenny Rodgers; the two had a very special bond for many many years !!! Check out Kenny Rodgers and Dolly Parton; Islands in the stream is fantastic .
Other Kenny Rogers songs to react to: "The Gambler" (his most famous and most iconic song); "She Believes In Me" "Through The Years" "You Decorated My Life" "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer" by Kenny Rogers and Kim Carnes; "We've Got Tonight (live 1985)" by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton; "You Can't Make Old Friends" by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton;
Man, Kenny Rogers has such a great and unique voice. He's got so many incredible songs. That rich and smooth voice is just amazing and then he adds in a little fry on some things. Just magical.
I've listened to him all my life but only just started appreciating him fully. RIP Kenny. Have you listened to the fabulous Dolly Pardon, Kenny often sang with her.
Kenny Rogers was the best vocal story teller. His voice has an overwhelming emotionally expressive tone quality. Over a 63 yr career. Watch his amazing biography. He was raised in poverty. Became a huge mega star with The Gambler Album & song. A huge cross over artist Country, Pop, R & B, psychodelic, gospel music. He was loved by everyone Globally. He was a really good man. He helped organize Feed Africa We Are The World song & huge talent session event fundraiser with major talents of the 80's. His songs had weekly TV movies. He was in a variety of bands. He even had his own tv show. Jimi Hendrix loved his Band First Edition 1st album Just Dropped In.
You are hitting this right on point!!!! I grew up with my mom listening to Kenny Rogers and The Commodores and I have personally been related by marriage to Kenny. Those two were such good friends and I am so happy that you see exactly what Kenny is all about. He was definitely a ladies man and he is just phenomenal!. With that being said so is Lionel. I just love how you get music and understand what it is all about. Much love to you ❤️🎼
Would love to see you react to the duets with Kenny Rogers and Lionel Richie…friends for over thirty years. Beautiful friendship…beautiful duets. Lady..She Believes in Me.
Home Free Acapella group ft Kenny Rogers Children Go Where I Send Thee. Sometime before Kenny died. He was originally with a band called First Edition.
If you haven’t already, Roy Clark sings a song called Yesterday, When I Was Young. He has a unique voice and is also a masterful musician, playing many instruments.
Oh, I think he likes it Mikey. Seriously, I love it when you react to what you are hearing, that's what I signed on for. Analyzing music makes it way too clinical, taking away the raw emotion that is charmed from the listeners soul. Congratulations sir. 👏 Fantastic reaction to this legendary ladies man. R.I.P. Kenny Rogers.
I have fallen in love with Kenny Rogers thousands of times because of this song. Every woman wants her man to love her like this. He and Dolly Parton were best friends, they sang a lot together., it broke her heart when he passed away.
Kenny’s signature song is The Gambler. It is a metaphor for life. The song was selected to be in the National Registry by the Library of Congress as as historically, culturally and musically significant. For the best results, be sure you select the official video.
The look of pure joy on your face as you work your way through the song was great to see. This song is on point! Love Kenny since I was a kid....now I'll be 50 next year. His voice is a gift that keeps on giving. Give 'You Decorated My Life' or 'Don't Fall in Love w/ a Dreamer' (his duet w/ Kim Carnes.)
Kenny sang Islands in the Stream with Dolly Parton & not sure if you remember the Gambler song 'You gotta know when to Holden know when to foldem', but this song really shows this voice so much more beautifully
He was a ladies’ man. My mother loved him and now that I’m older, I totally get it lol. Here’s a 2013 video in which Kenny and Lionel perform this together. Did you recognize Kenny from the We Are the World video? He and Lionel were great friends. th-cam.com/video/vc8IN-FnRic/w-d-xo.html
I also grew up listening to this great artist, always loved his voice. I would love to hear your react to Kenny Rogers and Home Free singing "Children, Go Where I Send Thee". A really great upbeat song done about 5 years ago. Sadly, we lost Kenny Rogers a couple of years ago. Thanks
I grew up listening to Kenny Rogers as a kid. I have always loved his voice. I could listen to him for hours. We lost a true talent and a legend. R.I.P. Kenny.
Buy me a rose, is awesome too. Love will turn you around , Ruby don't take your love to town . I think it was released in the 60's. When he was Kenny Rodgers and the first edition . His band back then . Till someone told him they wanted only him. Not the band. So they broke up and he went solo.. His very last release was a song he and dolly did together the interview was awesome he was just her friend always and the song is "You can't make old friends. I loved it and after maybe 6 months he passed. Saddest day ever.
Love Will Turn You Around, Coward of the County, Islands in the Stream, Lucille, Through the Years, The Gambler, You Decorated My Life, She Believes in Me
I read that when he met with Ritchie, he gushed about his impending wedding to "A Real Lady". Ritchie excused himself and changed the name of the song from "Baby" to "Lady", so in a way it was personal to Kenny. Kenny goes way back. His song "I Just Dropped In To See What Condition My Condition Was In", with The First Edition was a hit in the 60's. You have to go that far back to see him without his gray hair and beard.
Mr. Roger's was just one of the many many amazing musical artists of my teen and early adulthood years. I'm so privileged to have grown up in that time.
them. Waiting on Ruby don't take your love to town. About a vet returned from war and he was severely injured the song broke my heart way back in 1967. And I fell in love with Mr.Rogers voice way back then. Rest in peace my sweet sweet man.
Certainly was "eye candy", as well. So many things you need to listen to here. Try the one where he sings it with Lionel Richie. They have a good time together on the stage with that one. Another that I found recently (and I've been listening and watching for many years), had never seen it ..... Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers and Willie Nelson ...... "Something Inside So Strong". It'll stay in your head for weeks.
Lionel Came to him told him he had a hit for him, and played "Lady.... something something something" And he said "Lionel I do not know how anyone could turn that down"
Kenny at first didn't think he could pull off the talking parts of this song. Being a great artist Lionel convinced him he could and that song was Kenny's biggest hit. Shout out to Lionel Ritchie who's hands down one of the greatest love song writers of our day. He once said love will never go out of style.
Since you are a fan of hers, check out his duet with Dolly Parton. Islands in the Stream
Also, "We've got tonight" LIVE performances please. Their chemistry is AWESOME!
Islands in the streams was written by The Bee Gees.
He and Dolly also recorded "You Can't Make Old Friends"
I also suggested that one in his first reaction to her!
He is actually singing this song to his new Lady who is sitting in the audience!!😊❤❤❤❤
"Coward of the County", "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town", "She Believes In Me", "You Decorated My Life", and "Lucille" are a few of my favorite Kenny Rogers songs.
Coward of the county definitely 100%. Unrelated, I'd also love to see Johnny Cash version of Hurt at some point.
I second all these recommendations!!
You nailed it, but no Gambler?
This is my favorite Kenny Rogers song. When my husband and I started courting in high school, I would call him my Knight and he would call me his Lady. Then this song came out in 1980. Needless to say, this was our wedding song when we got married in 1982. We were 18 yrs old. Happily married now for 39 yrs. Beautiful song.
Let it Be Me…Kenny Rogers…beautiful!
I grew up listening to this man, great artist. "The Gambler" and “Through the Years” are some of my favorites.
“Islands In The Stream” will definitely be an experience for you
Yes! The live version, though. Way more fun.
I agree
the gambler, she believes in me, island in the streams.... and YES he was a lady's man... !!!
He was one of the singers in We Are the World
For me this is one of the greatest live performances of ALLTIME. The man had so much soul and feeling in his voice. A magic combination of his voice on Lionels sublime songwriting and melody.
There's a wonderful video of Kenny and Lionel singing the song together and reminiscing late in Kenny's life.
Two of my favorites are from his earlier days when it was Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. "Ruby (Don't Take Your Love to Town)'" and "Rueben James". Sadly, Kenny passed away on March 20, 2020, but he left a musical legacy.
Nice one , actually I’m really depressed right now, lost a coworker. very devastating , Needed someone to talk to

How romantic .
RIP Kenny. Grew up listening to him and to him with Dolly Parton. He was a tremendous artist.
As far as writing style, you can't go wrong when Lionel Richie writes your song for you. Both Kenny and Lionel made this song a hit for themselves and they sang it together as a duet.

Whenever two fools collide with Dottie West. This man sang with a lot of talented ladies.
Man, Kenny Rogers has such a great and unique voice. He's got so many incredible songs. That rich and smooth voice is just amazing and then he adds in a little fry on some things. Just magical.
Kenny with his white hair, beard and suit made the ladies melt in the audience
It was his voice!
@@rswastelnd211 yes forgot to mention the most obvious lol
Oh yes!!! The gambler and coward of the county. You would LOOOVE!
I've listened to him all my life but only just started appreciating him fully. RIP Kenny.
Have you listened to the fabulous Dolly Pardon, Kenny often sang with her.
Oh how I love your journey to my past🔥🔥🔥

She believes in me is one of my favorites also
This song was written by Lionel Ritchie. A great friend of Kenny's. So sad the world lost his sweet voice . He will be missed by all his fans forever.

The First Edition, is a band Kenny was in in the 60's. "Just Dropped In" is a song to listen to.
Listened to him all my life. Unfortunately lost him not too long ago. RIP Kenny Rogers! You are so missed.
Need to do his duet with Dolly Parton - Islands in the Stream.

His best/most popular song is The Gambler. I recommend Islands in The Stream - Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton
If you haven’t already, Roy Clark sings a song called Yesterday, When I Was Young. He has a unique voice and is also a masterful musician, playing many instruments.
Roy Clark. Much missed.....
RIP to the legend.
Watch the duet of Kenny doing this song with Lionel Richey. Ahhhhmazing!
Welcome to Kenny Rogers!!!
Oh, I think he likes it Mikey.

I absolutely *love* Kenny Rogers. Always have, always will. I'm glad you liked it. (Lionel Richie is awesome too!) 😎👌
His earlier work was as Kenny Roger's and the First Edition. He also had some excellent recordings with Dolly Parton.
Thanks
Kenny Rogers started with The First Edition. "Just stopped in to see what condition my condition was in." The most beautiful voice in the world.
you need to check out Kenny with Lionel doing this LIVE together!!! The story behind the song, inspiring!!!
I grew up listening to Kenny Rogers as a kid. I have always loved his voice. I could listen to him for hours. We lost a true talent and a legend. R.I.P. Kenny.
Kenny and Dolly were the King and Queen of Country for most of the 1970s & 80s....
You never cease to make me smile. Love your sincere reactions.

Every woman wants this song to be about her. It's what we all want someone to feel for us. It makes us feel like a lady. ⚘❤
You said it, "World Class"! That's Kenny! ❤❤❤
He was before my time, but I always see him as a definition of a gentleman
FYI - Kenny Rogers was also featured on the "USA For Africa" video that you just reacted to...
Great reaction! This live version is so much more emotional than his studio version, which is still fantastic. Amazing love song!
Sang it at my wedding. My parents were at this show.
The Gambler. An absolutely epic song
Mr. Roger's was just one of the many many amazing musical artists of my teen and early adulthood years. I'm so privileged to have grown up in that time.
"She believes in me" is a great song by Kenny Rogers.
The Gambler, Ruby, Reuben James, Coward of the County, Sweet Music Man, Islands in the Stream (with Dolly Parton" amongst others.

She Believes that Me is stunning and emotional.
One of the best love songs ever written. Baby making music.
Best love song ever. The silver fox melted every woman's heart. He helped to write it just a tad.
Simply beautiful. We lost a great talent with his passing.
This is one of the prettyest songs ever written ! 💝
Kenny Rogers is an icon in country music. He had hit after hit! Smooth and sexy!!!!!
You need to watch his duets with Dolly Parton. Those two voices are iconic together.
"The Gambler" and "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town" are great songs by him.
"World class". perfect assessment. KR was one of a kind.
Country royalty. There is not enough time on earth to play all his songs.
Lionel Came to him told him he had a hit for him, and played "Lady.... something something something" And he said "Lionel I do not know how anyone could turn that down"
I truly enjoy watching you enjoy a song, a voice.
The LEGEND that is Kenny Rogers. Lionel Richie and the Commodores are from my state, Alabama
Amazing. True talent written by Lionel Richie. Classic.
Kenny at first didn't think he could pull off the talking parts of this song. Being a great artist Lionel convinced him he could and that song was Kenny's biggest hit. Shout out to Lionel Ritchie who's hands down one of the greatest love song writers of our day. He once said love will never go out of style.
