  • The US has just gone through its most contentious Supreme Court nomination in decades.
America watched as Brett Kavanaugh ascended to the highest court in the country, despite a serious allegation of sexual assault from his high school days.
As the Senate reviewed his nomination, protesters took to the streets, and the events once again broke open the country's political and cultural divides.
One group had backed Kavanaugh's nomination from the beginning: The religious right in the US, which is a strategic, highly organised minority that has found itself more powerful than ever under President Donald Trump.
In his first two years of office, Trump has electrified this segment of the Republican base by advancing the movement's opposition to abortion and LGBTQ rights.
President Trump has appointed more judges on federal appeals courts than any of his recent predecessors.
In the wake of the Supreme Court confirmation of Justice Kavanaugh, America's so-called "values voters" are heading to the midterm election polls with the wind in their sails - and a sophisticated legislative and judicial ground-game to build on their momentum.
Fault Lines goes inside the US religious right to explore the grassroots strategy and the powerful institutions fuelling its resurgence.
The investigation reveals the movement's secretive state-level legislative strategy, known as Project Blitz, as well as the Republican party's plan to stack the federal judiciary with conservative judges.
Ultimately, Fault Lines explores what's driving this movement's support for President Trump and what their success could mean for the future of the country.

This country was founded on the concept of the separation of church and state. The Pilgrims came here because they had been persecuted for their religious views that is why they want separation of church and state.

Actually, it was because of the Pilgrims that the rest of the country wanted separation of church and state.

The pilgrims came here, because they weren't accepted in their HOME country, because of their extreme views & them feeling they can do better somewhere else. Here in the USA they brought their religious extremism that branched off to this country, generation after generation, According to a recent study, We are one of the most religious countries in the world. (Canada is not even as religious as us). Americans pray more daily, than the majority of the world, We were pretty high up there. Personally, i do pray everyday, I grew up with it. But i do believe that Church and Politics should not collide.

I agree. “Thou shall not steal” is a religious view that’s become a law. It needs to be removed from our laws and I should be able to take what I want.

I'm a Catholic so I'm very interested in how the extreme religious rights operates.
I disagree with the Reverend who says some are Catholic, or Protestants. It's clear most of them are fundamentalist evangelicals.
I think LGBTs should have rights. I think a woman can choose to have the procedure if she wants although I wouldn't say I am pro choice per se. I think I'm more of a progressive Catholic.
    Great documentary.

The main problem with the US GOV right now is the GOP IHMO. The Dems and Libs see the choice of GOP vs DEM as Hitler vs Stalin. The GOP supporters see the choice is Jesus vs Hitler, Which is very scary. But we've seen this over and over and over in history. The US will have to come to a reckoning in the next 10 years and realize we have been living way beyond our means for 50 years now. Unfotuently we will have growing pains because we have not invested in our health, infrastructure, or jobs in our own nation. Our leaders have been selling off our assets and future profits for decades. The only solution will be for the gov to take control of AMAZON, EBAY, WALMART and the other fortune 100 corps. Then sieze every ones assets over 2 million dollars. Leave Bill Gates, Bezos, Koch bros', Soros, Trumps etc... alll with 2 million in assets totalled. Once thats done we can start society over again and pay off our debts.

I know how distressed some Americans are from Trump and we know the extent of the big obstacles on the family path. But the problem is bigger than you imagine in Iraq. In Iraq, more than 1,000 small children are being killed, more than 100 Christian women are being raped, and the rights of all Christians in Iraq are being violated as you sleep. "I will avenge the Iraqis, I will take their oil, and this is not important. When he took office, he went to all the Arab Islamic countries, but he did not come to Iraq to reassure his Christian people.

I live in Tennessee. We do have gay people living here just like any other state. Don't let the video fool you. We are known as the bible belt & love God as well. Yes, we are strong in our religion being Christians. We don't want to lose our freedom of religion. You have the right to believe in God or not to believe in God, but respect our rights to believe in God too. Our rights have been trampled on enough, & we won't take it anymore. Just remember this, " One day...Every knee shall bow, every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord." I hope & pray that you choose wisely on your freedom of believing in God. God gave everyone free will to make that decision. One day you will stand face to face with God himself then what will you say? It's something to think about right? Praying for all to make the right decision to accept Jesus in salvation & make him the Lord of your life. Blessings to everyone. ❤
