  • If you've ever visited Orlando, there's a good chance you've driven down 192, or Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy as it's formally known. The 15 mile stretch of road that's home to tourist traps and neighborhoods alike. You can shoot a machine g*n and eat unlimited lobster all within a mile of each other. It's also home to some major redevelopment. Which is much needed! Today we talk about some of the big changes coming to 192.

I have lived in Florida for about 25 years and 192 has gone thru many phases in that time. It was touristy then run down and now it's being developed so well. I think in 5-10 years it will be unrecognizable.

My family made a lot of trips from Miami exiting the turnpike and taking all of 192 to WDW through the 80s and 90s. A lot of memories. A lot of those places are still there. The nicest area now is the Margaritaville north 192.

Am I the only one that when they pass one of those gift shops on Memorial Highway, really doesn't understand the economics and how they can make money to justify the large location, taxes and labor.

22 million people visit Magic Kingdom every year. That’s one park.
And the others, and universal and sea world etc and you’re talking 40 million a year each.
Do you know just how much money that brings into the area?

Great video, and outstanding footage of all of the places you're talking about. I lived in that area for quite a while, near the fairly new Walmart, and I've watched closely over the last 5+ years as this development has kicked into gear. I look forward to so much more, as you're alluding to. THANK YOU for this video!

I visited WDW several times throughout the 90s and the first half of the 00s, staying at an Econolodge that's across the street from the gift shop with the giant blonde mermaid (0:08 in the video). Nice to see that there's more to the area than just tourist traps.

I'm living on 192 and have lived on L.I. and worked in the city. This strip has the worst drivers I have ever seen anywhere.I held a class A drivers licence with 3 endorsements.I drove up and down the east coast. DC,Baltimore 695 you name it.The first 3 months I would ride my bike to the gym ,2 miles to ATF. I never had so many close calls just trying to cross the intersections. They run the red lights ,and drive through stop signs. There is never a police presence unless a horrid death occurs. The people that live here now that. There are too many people from Latin American countries that don't give a hoot about the laws.I can't wait to move.

I am not from Florida, but would love to move there some day. A concern of mine for those areas that are being developed is the deterioration of the green spaces. I believe as an outsider it is the pre-existing green spaces that make Florida so beautiful. What is being proposed to remedy this?

Glad to hear things are improving, or going to further improve, along 192. It definitely needed help. We were in the St Cloud area a few months ago looking at new construction and popped over to 192 afterward. Not overly impressed. Also, I've seen cases where flyovers are built where one busy road intersects with another (like Hwy 27 over 50 in Clermont). I know 192 goes on for miles, but couldn't a few of those potentially help alleviate the backup a bit?

I appreciate the video as 192 is "my road." I wish you would have taken some time to focus in on more things going on to the East of 417. This video seemed very Celebration-centric.
Honestly, I don't mind the very kitschy feel of 192. As a resident, I never go into the gift shops, but I do love those food trucks and if that's a casualty of the development of which you speak, then it seems that this oversight board is looking at just aesthetics and not the culture of the entire area. Let's face it, 192 down near Hoagland Avenue is a very different beast than Four Corners. I love 192 as it become Vine Street in the City of Kissimmee as much I love Old Town, Food Truck World, and the Water Tower Shoppes.

Excuse me for saying but Not everyone can live at Celebration Florida. What an attitude thinking everyone has to fit that Rich Snott Lifestyle as many that live and work around in that area are regular middle class people working for a living that don't own 750k and up Celebration Homes. The downfall of hotel industry and shops are due poorly run and managed locations . Most places have closed down due to larger retail stores in area called superstores that have put small mom and pop stores out of business . There are many good people living in this area and I find it rude and disrespectful your thoughts on this matter. Just because people don't live in an area like Celebration Florida doesn't make any worse.
