    To me 100k is just run in , no good being a garage queen worried to drive it , get a high mileage one well serviced and drive the snot out of it , European road trips , wales , Scotland, back to Europe, a few track days … you only live once you can’t take it with you …

      Absolutely, 100K miles is a warm up for SOLID engines. Treat with ceramic additives, and you are well set for a properly run engine, lasting miles on end.

      @@MichaelMalega I don't think the absolute best oils need help but warming of engine would help vastly more if it was possible. As for iron or coated cylinders, they have molecular properties and 3D shape to hold onto oil and ceramic coating has potential to reduce the cylinder retention of oil. That is my 10 cents

    Hello Porsche House reviewer…
    It should go without saying from all the reviews the “maintenance “ is the key factor of any vehicle.
    For the most part .. so are more problematic than others.
    In todays world 100k with regular “keen” maintenance is actually just “broken” in
    Once the owner and or enthusiast “understands” what is needed on a periodic basis and acts on rectifying the issue and can “hopefully” afford to correct those issue.. you’ll be good to go.
    I’m an avid Porsche guy… but overall a CAR guy..!

    With the engine in back and not very accessible, Porsche 911's will always be expensive to maintain or repair. Here in the States, prices are definitely determined by mileage. My attitude is different than most and the example I use is the F-22 fighter plane. Though getting old at 17 years of service, the air force stays on top of maintenance and repair and the F-22 still performs as it was designed. The Porsche 911 is the same. With proper care this car will soldier on for many years. You just have to budget for the upkeep.

    • @jamesmedina2062
      @jamesmedina2062 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nboy7 that's a good point. General maintenance should not be required until 200,000 miles at which time hopefully only some gaskets refresh needed and carbon cleaning, possibly injectors, coils, and valve adjust. If the car is raced or not designed well anticipate more frequent engine out work.

    Here in the US there is an obsession with low mileage for Porsche cars. For the GT cars, if it’s high mileage (i.e. 30k or more) the value is impacted negatively. Quite a silly situation. Thanks for the video, I happen to agree with you.

      If I had to guess I'd probably say it's because people assume the high end track models are getting tracked more than they're cruising on the highway. Do you see what I mean? They're definitely meant to be exercised, but 30K track miles is a lot harder on components than 30K commuting/cruising miles.

    Personally, I think Porsche make great used cars because the person(s) who owned them previously probably loved it. Porsche were expensive to purchase initially and once purchased the owner probably did love the car and most likely took care of it. Not in every case, of course, but generally Porsche owners love their cars.
    Maybe Porsche not as rock solid reliable as Lexus, but they are pretty damn close (I've owned both). Porsche a lot more fun to drive and is an emotional experience. Not so with Lexus. Lexus is like driving what your grandmother would like.
    Furthermore the Porsche motto is "Porsche--built to be driven hard" I saw a statistic that 97% of all Porsches ever made are still around (only 3% have made it to the junk yards).
    I don't know why Porsche always gets this rap about repairs and reliability. Yes, it's not a Toyota, but Porsche far far better than--Mercedes, Jaguar, Ferrari, Mini, BMW, Cadillac, Volvo, Range Rover, --which are all garbage by comparison. (imho).

      depends on which Porsche you get. some of the early cayenne had some major rod bearing issues, and the early 2000s had all the IMS faults. The '09 911s also had the issue with the head bolts popping out, which wasn't amazing. Anything more modern than '10 is uuuusually fine, but you could be like me and have a rod thrown through the side of your 30k mile engine, without these faults.
      Porsches aren't reliable for a daily. They're good for what they are, a sports car, far better than BMW for example, but you're correct, they wont be as long lasting as a lexus, etc

    I have had two 997's over the past 15 years and am looking for a 991 as I write this.
    Both of my 997's I bought with very very low miles (under 5k miles) and kept them both for about 6 years. They sat more than they were driven as they were more of a toy.
    As we all know, sitting is much harder on the mechanicals of an engine than driving it daily.
    I religiously have them serviced at Porsche regardless of mileage driven.
    The ONLY issues I has between both of my 997's was a loose sport exhaust muffler hanger on my 2006 C2 in the year 2009. Warranty covered that--no big issue at all.
    Service a 911 and it will be a VERY reliable vehicle whether you daily drive it or drive it as a toy. Highly recommend the Porsche 997.
    I believe the 991 has also been very reliable as well. I will find out soon to confirm.

    I have a 2015 Carrera 4S that has 107k on it. Absolutely consider one with higher mileage. As stated in the video, all the things that can go wrong usually happen in the first 50k miles. I’d much rather buy a car that’s been maintained with high mileage, than a neglected garage queen with 30k miles. Bear in mind also that, especially with the these cars, the seals will dry out, rubber will dry rot, fuel lines will degrade, etc; all from lack of use. So, go ahead pay more for your low mileage example that’ll need $10k of maintenance right after you buy it. I’ll take my high mileage daily driver that just needed an oil change every day.

    Documented maintenance. What was done, who did it, and where it was done. If there's no documentation - then better figure that the work was actually not done. These are high performance cars and many who own them are quick to put them to the test. Higher mileage = high use and possibly abuse. The suggestion for a proper PPI is good advice. I think the worry is that you don't want to save a few thousands getting a high mileage only to have to put in thousands in repairs and be left with an overall less valuable car. We're starting to see 80-90,000 mile 981s now.

  • @jamesmay1322
    @jamesmay1322 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    60k odd miles is absolutely nothing for any modern engine. The average UK mileage is actually around 7-8k miles a year (don't let traders and the motoring press try and convince you it's over 10-12k a year that's just them trying to devalue your car). So a 9 year old car with average miles would have around 60-70k miles on it. If anything Porsche's more than any other car need to be driven to be maintained properly. If anything I'd be put off by any car that had only done 2-3,000 miles a year. To me that would mean it's either a) only been used on the weekend - meaning all it's rubber seals etc would spend the rest of the week drying out and perishing or b) it's been almost entirely for short commuting trips where it's been subject to the highest wear environment an engine suffers for it's entire life. 35k miles is the lowest mileage I would ever consider for any 9 year old Porsche, to ensure it's been driven and maintained regularly enough over it's life.

  • @walkerskii
    @walkerskii ปีที่แล้ว

    People don't view Porsche repairs as an expense, but rather an investment. This all comes down to how long do you plan to own the car? Most Porsches will be passed down when the owner moves into a nursing home (the higher mileage should be reflected in the price).

    Recently bought a 992 Turbo S that I suspect had been used in the PEC, possibly as a demo car on their track in LA. It has 9K miles and seems perfect in every way. Individuals could, in effect, rent it for 1.5 hours with an instructor. Cost over $1K to do this. Do you think this usage would come back later to haunt me? Full coverage is included for four years and 50K miles.

      yeah, but higher milage cars can suffer from bigger, more costlier issues like the gearbox and other motor parts. those are the real wallet hitters. i'm not saying there aren't any good high milage cars, but it would unjust to say that higher milage cars are close to lower milage cars

    • @alg4633
      @alg4633 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chickenpasta7359 I wouldn't trust a 2013 MY with 15-20k miles any more than one with more than 150k miles. I'll take the vehicle which has been driven rather than a garage queen that just sits and sits. Here in Florida, we drive year round and that is what packs on the miles. Northern US vehicles are typically winterized and sit for 6 months doing nothing but sucking a trickle charge. IMHO, not a very healthy lifestyle. The gear-train will be fine over 140K as long as it has not been abused on the track and properly maintained.

  • @MichaelMalega

    I'm surprised, calling 60K miles a high mileage car!, motorway miles add up fast, just calculate going to work and back 5 day s per week, it should be 90 to 100K miles and still reasonably high. I have CLS over 145K miles, and so what!? Frequent engine oil change + ceramic additives, and you're good to go a long way.

    • @grecopena

      Fair question. I would have my trusted Porsche mechanic give me that answer. Some motors need some important modifications, like baffles in the M96 oil pans to keep them from starving from oil in hard turns. It just all depends on how much track days, how hard you drive it. Otherwise, you are ask for trouble.
