This is what I had to do. My ex went to work and I quickly/quietly packed my things (mind you, his mom and brother were living in our home so i had to be extra quiet) and had a coworker come get me. It was terrifying. He sent his brother to my job to bring gifts, called and text constantly, had his mom (who didn't even care for me) text me a big long guilt trip message about coming back. He followed me around town, knew what i was doing and who i was with. I'm so thankful for the girls I worked with. I had no family in the state so they were all I had.

I really tried to, he was working late one day, and working early the next. I tried to get things out that first night but he came home early from work and caught me. I had to run that night, phoned a friend to chaperone my exit, stayed with another friend that night, and went into a shelter with my children the next.

As someone who left an abusive marriage, you must have an exit plan. No direct confrontation and never again be alone with them after that point. Many people think, "they won't actually kill me" but they will, it happens everyday.

Absolutely! Unfortunately I’ve had to leave an abusive relationship and it took a lot of planning. I was terrified if I didn’t get out I might end up dead. After getting out and having help from a women’s shelter it sunk in even further how much danger I was truly in.
I’m so sorry to hear you went through this as well. My heart breaks for all victims of domestic violence, especially those that don’t make it out alive.
If you’re in an abusive relationship seek guidance from a women’s shelter or DV shelter (there are resources out there for men as well as they too can be victims of DV). There are many ways to do this so it won’t show up in your internet search history or be listed in your call log as being a call with a shelter.

    • @sandybowers5085
      @sandybowers5085 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@suzimonkey345 I hope everyone knows that after you remove yourself and children if you have any, you can get a temporary restraining order. They are usually good for 5 days. Before the 5 days are up, you can get a court hearing, bring pictures, any evidence you have! The judge will extend it for one to three years. This gives you time to file for your divorce! If your ex has taken away your access to money the court will pay for you to serve your ex wife the divorce papers. It is done by the police or sherrif’s office. So you don’t have to be there at all!!! My ex was served the day of our 18th anniversary. It was not my fault or decision. It just happened to be the day that they knew where he was.
      Karma? Idk 🤷🏻‍♀️

The only way I got away from my first husband was to leave while he was at work after careful planning and saving money up. I got my Granny to take care of my 3 year old son while a friend helped me. I got out before he could lay hands on my son. I was terrified he would come home and catch me. We went to my friend's sister's house 50 miles away. Thankfully it was over. I was 19 and I started over. I've now been with my second husband 42 years and I broke the chain. My sons were raised in a normal home without abuse, unlike my childhood and my ex's upbringing.

Anyone sharing awareness about domestic violence is always respected in my eyes. As a survivor of domestic abuse, anytime I hear someone say “if it was so bad why didn’t they say something sooner” or “why didn’t they just leave then?” It enrages me. When things are said like that it comes across as though the person shouldn’t be believed and it silences people who are going through abuse, giving the abuser more power. It’s clear there’s still a lack of understanding around the control aspect of these relationships and it’s sad that often people have to experience it to understand.

I am a survivor of domestic violence. I almost lost my life due to strangulation. Definitely wasn't the first time he tried to choke me out. That particular day he said I am going to kill you (This was because I asked him why he didn't show up to his child's Christmas concert and where he was at 2:00 a.m.) anyway, his 12-year-old daughter burst into the room and saved me. There was a lot of violence before that but that was probably going to be the last time.
The most dangerous time for women is when they are going to try to leave their abuser.
After this I went back to school and worked in The anti-violence field for a decade. It is scarily common. How often men kill their partners. It's very sad how often they get away with it.
This is definitely one of those cases and it breaks my heart.

Similar thing happened to me, but instead of joking, he tried to push me down on the 8th floor balcony, clever then he could say either that I "slipped" or commited "suicide", similarily it also happened when I tried to leave him, there is so much viloence against women in the world, thus women are called "the weaker sex", but we are not weak, we are strong, stronger than these abusive men, we survived these cowardly men, using physical viloence is sign of a coward, instead of facing problems in life and trying to solve them by using words, and brain, they use physical viloence, cowards

Thank you for talking about this now, as it is Domestic Violence Awareness Month!
I'm a survivor. Even though part of my therapy after my 1st marriage (he threatened to kill me twice & was starting to act like it just before I left) was reading/studying controlling/abusive behavior, I still ended up with a long-time friend (I thought I knew) I didn't recognize as abusive (the day I escaped, he had put his hands around my neck but thank God he let go!).
If you're a victim, please realize that the most dangerous time is when trying to leave your abuser. Making a safety/escape plan before leaving is extremely important! Call a DV hotline or search secretly online to learn how. Then if you have to leave NOW you'll know who to call, where to go and have all your documents and clothes.
Also, couple's counseling will only make things WORSE for you! Finding someone who's had extensive training in DV therapy, who will work with each of you SEPARATELY, will keep you mentally & emotionally safe. The abuser will only change if they do the tough work to change themselves!
Remember, you're not alone and stay safe!

I found you through an episode you did where you talked about your experience with postpartum depression (it was at the time when a mom had just unalived all 3 of her children and the word was that it was caused by postpartum psychosis). Anyway, I really loved your honesty about your own experience and I related to it also, because I had postpartum with my first son (he will be 35 this year, so I could be your mom, but I found you so relatable anyway). I also love John and Lauren Matthias, so I’m a big fan of the cases where you collaborate with them. You’re awesome-congratulations again.

46:53 look, i believe that her husband did this to her. However, i will correct her loved ones when they say it wasn’t possible that she suffered from mental instability or wasn’t happy. They need to educate themselves when it comes to mental illnesses, because it’s almost always what appears to be the happiest people who end up taking their own lives due to battles of mental illnesses. Not saying this is the case with Alexis, but speaking on behalf of mental health awareness (i speak from experience)

I think most influencers look for validation and to live up to this narrative they create for them selves. I don’t know if this is her but I’m in the middle of this story thinking Tom doesn’t strike me as a killer. I am sure he is an asshole. I just don’t see it. The only reason I got away is because we both had Covid and went to the hospital one time but they separated us because they only had room for one of us- me. And because he wouldn’t let me have a phone or FB or anything, once I got out of the hospital he had no way to reach me or find me. I had never felt so free in my life.

I would stop making statements such as she “was making more money so she didn’t need him anymore.” It was repeated a few times in this video in different ways. It paints her in a way that insinuates that’s the only reason she was with him when I’m sure that wasn’t the case. She most likely fell in love with him because guys like him can show a different side when meeting new people. If he was a loving husband, she would’ve stayed regardless of the amount of money she was making, based on the sweet description her friends painted of her. Also, the statement that older guys are often controlling who have younger wives and girlfriends is not correct. There’s no evidence that the rate is higher in those situations. There’s guys like this in all age groups. And women too.

Really? Google it. Age gap relationships are absolutely more likely to be abusive and controlling. This doesn’t mean they are all like that but there is a reason why someone looks for someone more naive to control. We were all young and naive. The making money comments are speaking tot the fact that a lot of people can’t get out of abusive relationships because of financial abuse. She could have. He had her under some other sort of manipulation believing that she was not good enough or in fear. We as a society have to start looking at how this happens and that there are many factors of manipulation and control of abusers and many self esteem issues for the people who stay. Teach people the red flags and signs that you may have low self esteem.

@AnnieElise, a great true crime story is one from Utah. The KAY MORTENSON story. There are so many twists and turns you might get whiplash! He was my uncle. It has only been briefly covered once on TH-cam. A goid deep dive would be AWESOME, especially since you're coming to Utah! Great job girl, keep them coming.
