Known to many as the Grom, Honda's MSX125 can trace its roots back to the original monkey bikes and speaking of originality, Suzuki have kept the classical styling of their VanVan despite giving it an extra 75cc for 2016.
BikeSocial's Paul Taylor and Michael Mann took them both to the seaside.

Got a Van Van about two months ago. I couldn’t love it more. It feels like a cafe racer/off road/cruiser bike, it’s so odd. At the same time it’s ridiculously comfortable and looks cool as hell. I’ve been stopped about five times already to be told how cool and retro it looks 🤣🤣❤️❤️

I have a Grom but the temptation to go nuts spending money on it and modding it does my head in. If they bring the Van Van to Australia I think I'll change to one of those as I don't think I'll want to mess with it too much.

I have the VanVan 200. I have terrible coccyx tailbone pain. I thought I’d never be able to ride again. The seat of the VanVan is so comfortable, I’m back to riding! 🙂

Have a new grom and modded it already, needs a better seat otherwise it's great, although I do lustre for a vanvan also but customise it like a bobber and junk some weight. If I can't sort the comfort out on the grom the vanvan my other option.

I also got a vstar 250 which is 50ccs more than the VanVan and was $200 cheaper, the vstar is also a vtwin.

VanVan with 30HP would be great. I would buy the VanVan if it had more power. It’s the same price as the Honda CB300F. I like the style of the VanVan but would go for the Honda for the same price and more power.

For off road capability, the Suzuki will leave the Monkey in the dust, literally. Taking the Monkey off road would be both challenging and dangerous. I see the Monkey as a funky moped and the Suzuki as a dual sport motorcycle.

The Honda looks like it fell from the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and for me the vanvan is gorgeous and funky.
