EDIT: the Captions are now live as I had intended them too! I had made such nice captions for you guys, but TH-cam decided not to save them apparently... 😢 I'll work on them again tomorrow!
To save your shoulders and neck, try spinning with a short distaff, also called Roman or hand held distaff. This has become my favourite way of spindle spinning - a ring distaff and a light bottom weight bead spindle are my preferred travel spinning. ETA: Combed top is the perfect prep for this method of spinning.
I am always here for hearing you talk about relevant religious feast days to the time of year while you're spinning or literally anything else you're doing. (am i trying to encourage your catholic history nerd side? yes. yes I am)
100 day challenges are a biiiiiiig commitment! Love the way you decided to tackle this one. Yes, yes and yes! If you enjoy it, we want to see it. Thanks for the vlog style video 🧶
My very scrappy method of plying using a drop spindle: put the singles on empty toilet/kitchenpaper rolls. You can put both singles on the same roll if you take a large one (just take care of the direction of winding). Then you just put the roll back on the kitchenpaper holder and you can unwind them at the same time while plying!! No yarn barf :)
Now that I have my spinning wheel (well, an e-spinner) I don’t think I’d find it easy to do 100 days of uninterrupted spindle spinning. I do take out my supported spindle several times a week. But every day? Mmmmmm… There is something about spindle spun yarn though. I love it!
Topics I’d love to hear you talk about: what crafts have you tried and decided not to pursue? Does anyone else in your family do fiber crafts and did they teach you? What age did you learn to knit, crochet, and spin? What’s the weirdest place you’ve ever crafted? Has anyone ever said anything interesting to you while you’ve been knitting or spinning in public? Looking forward to hearing more from you in 2024!
Okay, this was several months ago now, but two thoughts: one, I think those colors are beautiful, and lovely together! I can see spinning up a single color (white?) and then doing a colorwork sweater with it, using those beautiful mini-skeins as the colors in the yoke and maybe cuffs. Two, on your attempt at socializing: I appreciate you mentioning how nice it is to have the social crafting time and yet to feel that it really takes spoons, and the need for recovery time from the most genial of social engagements. I feel this way, and so many people don't understand it (and even may feel insulted, like I'm saying their company wears me out).
Loved watching this. The spindle plying was really helpful to witness in action thank you. I may even be tempted to give that a go. Ive not used my drop spindle for a few weeks although I do have a sizeable single on it currently which I left because I love looking at it lol but Husband and I are driving up to Scotland at the end of January for a few days and I want to take my spindle with me so I now have a decent idea of how to ply it I should be able to 😀 I received spinning related goodies for Christmas. My husband bought me a pair of Golden Fleece hand carders and a Shetland x Cheviot raw fleece which i have no idea yet how to even attempt to scour, wash and then dry it with our appalling weather here of late. I definately like the idea of you making a jumper with your spindle spun but i also loved the socks you made. Im sure we will all thoroughly enjoy seeing the outcome of your work and dedication whatever it may be 😊 Looking forwared to seeing the rest of your 100 day challenge. Really enjoyed this ❤
I have been loving spindle spinning. I haven't been doing it everyday but most days for sure. I have been thinking about knitting one of the seaglass sweaters by wool and pine or a Dathan pullover by Kate Davies to use up some of my scraps.
A very happy wooly healthy colorful joyful 2024 to you and your husband! You just gave me the „100 days of spinning“ bug… having very little free time, but every day just a little bit of spindle spinning… those mini skeins are so adorable, and to think of a project for those… my mind is already filling up with warm fluffy wooly thoughts. Much much better than that stressful „un-fluffy“ stuff that usually tries to squeeze itself in there! Your video was delightful to watch. 🥰
You asked if anyone had gotten any fiber related Christmas/holiday gifts, well seeing as I didn't get any gifts this year, I ordered myself a brand new drum carder! It's from Golden Fleece Carder, and it turns out they are located in the Netherlands (like 20 minutes from me). Too bad I only found that out after it was sent by mail and I had to wait 3 more days to get it... 🙄
Love the bowl you use for supported lap spinning. Not so small that you loose it in the folds of your skirt, or the spindle suddenly whirls completely out of it 😂. Wonderful.
Wat een uitdaging! Knap dat je dit doet. Ik kon de tour de fleece al niet afmaken, daar ben ik nu mee bezig. Als ik had geweten dat je in Boxtel was, was ik ook naar de Dag van de wol gekomen!
I love a New Year's resolution, so I've been thinking about time a lot lately, how I want to be spending it, best ways achieve goals and spark joy. Your comment about it being really hard sometimes to find that fifteen minutes made me think about that, so one thing I'm wondering is if it'll get easier or harder to find that time in the next sixty days.

Hi Jente, I hope your neck and shoulders are feeling better xx ❣️❣️❣️ Your Mini Skeins look amazing. I have a suggestion, you can make a Centre Pull Ball on your Ball Winder and then you Ply from that. I'm glad that you showed hiw you start on your Support Spindle, only because that's how I started on mine, wasn't sure if that was the correct way or not, but like you said, if it works then its OK. Love the Alpaca that Dries bought you for Christmas. I'm so impressed you managed to do the whole month!! (1 day off doesn't count.) And so much yarn 🎉 I'm glad you will be continuing, but I really hope you have managed to find some exercises to loosen and strengthen your neck. As a hypermobile person, I know just how much it sucks when various body parts start tensing up and causing pain. Also, Happy New Year!!! One of my gifts was some fab Undercover Otter yarn in a very interesting sock base (Nevermoor) of Exmoor Blueface, Corriedale, Zwartbles and nylon.
High five, fellow hypermobile person! (But be careful we don't bend our wrists backwards) I follow Undercover Otter on Instagram, their yarn looks fabulous!
@MijnWolden Maybe fist bumps are safer 😜👊 Can confirm it is glorious in real life. So glorious, that I have been rummaging around in my stash for yarns to go with it in a fabulous pair of socks, instead of making a shopping list and getting food for the next few days. Who needs food when there is yarn??

Wow, that was quite a challenge, but that box of floof!!! ✨😍 Applauding you for extending your challenge! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 About Christmas gifts: My secret santa gifted me the Yarnitecture book (by Jillian Moreno)... well attempted to gift it to me. He actually asked me for a little bit of patience in his letter to me. Because the book hadn't turned up yet. But last week it still hadn't turned up. So he went on to investigate... on that quest my secret santa found out he ordered the e-book by accident. 🤭 All will be well, the right book is on it's way to me now!! *happy dance* Here we say: "Wat in het vat zit verzuurt niet!" (it won't go bad). A very happy, healthy, and wooly 2024! ❤
My brother-in-law, so my sister's partner, and my stepmum both gifted me the same book. But my stepmum had ordered it recently enough that she could return it and order something else 😅
I'd really appreciate a deep dive on your plying bracelet technique because my brain cannot. Also I saw you walk past a shop called Yoke with an orange background. Request a future video where you knit a jumper with an orange yoke and wear it there. Or knit it there. Or just... walk around in a jumper with a cool yoke there 😂 Possibly a spinning music playlist could be fun? Music to spin to I have found that my different spindle weights are good for different yarn, so might be interesting to see if that also translates to your experience and across types? I am out of spoons because of studying so thankyou for lending me some of yours while I knit mindlessly

I for one greatly appreciated the Nightwish reference 😁🖤 Anyway, I'm so impressed with how much you managed to spin!!! 😍 I am also attempting to keep up with the 100 days of spindle spinning, but even with only missing maybe 4 days or so, I've only finished one single so far 😅 Idk if I'm aiming to fill my spindles way too much or if I'm just a slow spinner 🤷♀️ I'm aiming to spin enough yarn for a sweater (I've picked out the pattern Dead Of Night by Hannah Mann) so that's going to take A WHILE 😅😂 Thankfully I enjoy the process 😅😁 Also, I'm curious, what did/will you do with the skein that will not be named?
i thought about taking part in this challenge but decided that instead I would spin for a minimum of 24 minutes each day …(#spin24in24) as then I have the option of wheels or spindles depending upon daily mood. Your mini skeins are gorgeous 🤩😍
I've been so into using my new spinning wheel that I haven't used the drop spindle for a couple of months. Watching this made me miss it! Time to pick it back up. :) I have a suggestion that you could show how you take the singles off using your hand. My knitty knotty broke and I only had one. I've been using the toilet paper roll method but I'm curious how you are doing that. :)

I'm impressed that you did the whole month! I have done similar challenges in the past and usually not made it past the first week... I really liked this vlog, so I would not mind seeing two more :) I really liked the cardigan you're wearing on 28 december, did you make that yourself? As for questions, the main thing I can think of right now is that I'm super curious how many projects you're working on at the same time. And how do you keep track of them all?
I found that cardigan in the second hand store, the brand is saga Knits, which at first made me think it was something Scandinavian, but it turned out to be German. But 100% wool is always a win in my book
