    📝 KEY POINTS 🧠
    ✨ TIP#1
Living in a foreign country in hopes of being immersed in the language will not help you achieve fluency if you do not have a formal education of the language. There really is no substitution to learning grammar and vocabulary in an academic setting.
    ✨ TIP#2
I often tell people to learn as much French or insert your language of choice before moving to said country. If you move to a new country prematurely you might not have the time or access to learn the language like you think. If you are moving, you are probably doing so for work or school. If your job and school work is in English, it means you will have less time than you think to develop your French language skills. In fact, you might be bogged down by the job, the school or the chance of being in a new environment. Also, your social circles might be limited to English only or whatever your native language is.
    ✨ TIP#3
Speaking of social circles, I wish I had been more intentional about constructing certain friendships in the French language. I have French speaking friends that I speak with solely in English because I met them when I wasn’t comfortable holding long convos in French. Now that I speak better French, we still revert back to our usual language of choice. I realized that how you start the relationship often dictates how you continue the relationship. It is super hard to get out of this!
    ✨ TIP#4
I wish I made more of an effort to not compare my progress with others. It is important to remember that we all have different relationships with learning languages and progressing in them. It makes no sense to compare yourself with someone who was a literal French major in college. Nor does it make sense to compare yourself with someone who went to a specialized French high school back home. Additionally, some people will downplay their access to early French education and say “they just started learning the language a few years ago”. Some people are able to do intensive language courses as opposed to working heavy hours. We all have different life engagements.
    ✨ TIP#5
Learning a new language and trying to practice said new language requires a lot of patience not just from you but also the people around. It also requires you to have a sense of humility.
    ✨ TIP#6
Learning a new language is not an uphill journey by any means. Your metaphoric car will stall and you might think you’re moving backwards. But in actuality, it is really hard to determine what’s really happening. You might ask yourself were you ever in the car? It ebbs and flows. There is a chance that you might feel like you are plateauing but trust the process. It will be a journey worth taking.
