Draconian - best doom/gothic band now. There is a lot of stuff to check. With a lot of growls. Add this songs to the list - "Stellar Tombs", "Earthbound". Killer songs.
The title of the song makes reference to the "Sethians", a group of Gnostic Christians from the 2nd century of C.E. As the rest of Gnostics (for there were MANY different groups), they believed that Yahweh was not the True God: he was a lesser, demonic deity inferior to the real Divinity, which the Gnostics called "The Monad" (also referred as "The One", or "The Primordial Father"). In the eyes of the Gnostics, the Creator God of the Old Testament was nothing more than a nefarious, demonic creature worthy of the deepest scorn and disdain ("My knees won't bend. My hands won't fold. I've sworn dissent upon your Father. I am the Sethian"). They called him "Ialdabaoth", and regarded him as the DEMIURGE, a lesser deity, the crafter of our material world, which had imprisoned the Divine Sparks (Human Souls) into these hylic, earthly forms we call bodies. He had been born from a divine catastrophe involving SOPHIA (mentioned in another of Draconian´s songs), one of the primordial "Aeons "(Emanations) of such True God/Father, derived from her noble, yet untimely desires of creating a Universe of her own without the consent of the Godhead and of her male counterpart, the Divine Logos (Christ). The Gnostic theological systems were utterly complex, but this basic notion of a demonic Demiurge opposed to the True God / Father (the noble God which had sent Christ to deliver us from his bondage) was deeply entrenched at the core of their different teachings. "And mine (my God) is a mountain of souls' screaming". These beautiful lines ecco the notion of the Pleroma, the myriad of lesser, divine beings which were emanated/born from the True God at the beggining of times...
If I understand correctly, the woman in the video is the Achamoth, who is both Sophia, set upon by the Archons (the black hands), who gives wisdom to humans through the apple, and who is also Eve, receiving the apple and hence knowledge of our bondage.
I was unaware of the Christian sect inspiration for the title, but def cool knowledge. I took the Sethian as a cult worshipper of Set/Seth, Egyptian god of darkness and chaos. I love the line, "And you forget your god is a demon" (though I prefer the "daemon" spelling). It's a matter of contention, but comparative literature seems to suggest that the Abrahamic god may have arisen at first as a lesser god from the dreams or creations of greater god(s) (therefore, a daemon).

My first Draconian track, earlier this year, and I never looked back. The Sethian - Gnostic. Gospel of Judas (Lord of the Lost) - Gnostic. Possibly not a coincidence in the eyes of the youtube algorithm. :-)
Draconian from Sweden is most likely one of the best Gothic doom bands in the world, maybe even the best. All of their 7 studio albums are at least worth 85/100 points. This Finnish band could have been equally great had their lead vocalist Aleah Stanbridge not died of cancer even before they released their 1st & only studio album: Trees of Eternity: Broken Mirror (Official Lyric Video) th-cam.com/video/2rxWdE8vz4o/w-d-xo.html It's a small wonder if Ginger doesn't shed any tears should you react to this one also.
Firstly, a big wow to Mike for having even heard of the Nephs, never mind liking them - they didn't exactly make it big over in the states :) And you now need to listen to the entirety of Sovren and Under a Godless Veil, Draconians last two albums with Heike on female vocals - she has a voice like no other. She also sang on the first 3 Ison albums and brings more emotion with her voice than any singer I can think of - try Isae by Ison - stunning video, stunning song.
The Marriage of Attaris would be a phenomenal Draconian song to watch next, as would Stellar Tombs (though I find the official video for that one draws too much attention from the music itself for my tastes). From the new album, I'd heartily recommend The Sorrow of Sophia.

Wow. There are so many great doombands out there. I once stumbled upon Lightbearer. It's not exactly doom metal, but it resembles it. Try Lightbearer / Beautiful is this burden. I know lady Ginger will love it for sure.
