This was your first review? WELL DONE!! Best reviewer I've noticed on TH-cam by far. Keep the reviews coming. :) Very good content. Most others are too general making their so-called "review videos" sound more like "impressions videos". Saying things like "nice bass" without talking about the quality of the bass. or mids. Etc.
Love your channel! Im watching other reviews and nobody really goes into detail about the most important part of headphones which is the SOUND QUALITY like you do!! I greatly appreciate it!!! Ive watched many of your videos now. I ended up accidentally buying the on the ear momentums instead of these over the ear headphones!!! 2 questions before buying these....I wanted to know if they have Great detail and instrument seperation? I dont think I want to buy these headphones without your opinion on the detail and instrument seperation.
Vinay Wayal I think they have decent amounts of detail and separation, but because they aren't aggressive in the treble they may not feel like they have as much immediate detail.
***** I dont mind spending good money especially when it comes to listening to music the way it should be. I will buy these. Which headphones would you recommend in terms of the most detail and instrument seperation with audiophile music. Thanks for your help
As far as portable headphones and detail separation goes, I can imagine the Beyerdynamic DT1350 (or the T51P, which I haven't heard) might be good options. But I tend to prefer earphones if detail and instrument separation was my main priority.
i just subscribed and watched all your videos. i really like your reviews, they're very informative and are very professionally done. i also like how the video is nice and clear despite being only 360p keep up the good job mate :)
I appreciate the review, I've been thinking about purchasing these headphones. I also noticed you aren't biased and i thought this was a great review, thanks and keep up the good work!
I'm still confused about the terms "over ear" and "around ear". When I try a Sennheiser over-ear headset, my whole ear fits perfectly inside the cup, but Momentums are sold as "around ear" which Sennheiser (NZ) explains as a slightly different category. I consider my ears to be of average size, and while the bottom of my ears sit nicely inside the cup, but the very top of my ear is under (not inside) the leather cup. According to the Senhennieser rep, *that* is the normal fit. Clarification???
Hi Lachlan.. Great review! I bought this headphone 3 months ago. It rocks!! Really like the sound quality of momentum compare to other headphones.. cheers!
Not a bad review at all. You described the products and others well, like the p5's you nailed the description of them. Receiving my pair in two days hope they sound as well as u described them.
Waooo, I came here only from a review but the level of his English pronunciation is amazing!!!, is nice how vocalize and take his time to each word!!! The review was perfect
Just a quick question. Do you have the exact measurements of the ear cups? I'm really considering picking these up myself but my only concern is the size itself.
I should have clarified. I did not intend to restrict the spectrum of headphones you might consider to the living/portable category; rather I asked because you mention in the video to have had a superior experience on other headphones. Would appreciate if you could help me (heard good thing bout the Beyerdynamic T90/T1 ones and was leaning towards those). Thanks.
As I guy who listens to Heavy Metal, Pop and Japanese will this is be alright for me? I'm also a person who considers the looks and feels of my Products I tried the on ear momentum but they weren't comfortable but i liked the design so what is your opinion?
Do these headphonmes for studio aswell? Im looking for headphones for studio and listening to music for long hours... whicn one is better these or Senheisser hd 25 CII? Im choosing between these now...
the b&w p5 were mentioned as direct competetor. i have the p5's but am now asking myself if it is worth getting the momentum in addition, since they are also a fantastic sounding and looking paar? what do you think? i also own the monster beats pro for home listening.
awesome review. great detail but again, describing cans and the sound they reproduce is like me describing audio subs or cigars. You make up words at times that others cannot understand. lol. You have great reviews. Always keep in mind the difference between studio headphones and those marketed to younger folks (lifestyle) and others. Many companies have a signature sound that's involved in the audio engineering for non studio cans. Think of the classic SOny MDR7506 (neutral) and the newer bass XB series (extra bass). And the MDR-1R (signature Sony "sound" as in they tweak it). All different classes and sounds. great job
I know that this is quite a weird + slightly pointless question but what colour is the carrying case? I'm just hoping its not black because my previous camera cases etc. have been too dark a colour and I cant see where they are in my bag! Thanks in advance. TOSD.
Hi! I have been thinking about trying the Momentum. How does it compare to the sony mdr-x10 or xb 920? I have listened briefly to the AT M50 and unfortunately bass is not enough for me. I had to switch from the FiiO E18 to the E17 and push the bass to +10 and Bass full in my Sony Xperia Z Ultra to get good bass..which is way too much. With my X10 I dont have to go anywhere near that, just need to EQ it of course for better balance but I am always looking to try new things to see if I find something I like even more. It must be closed. Thanks!
This is such a helpful review Lachlan. I've been torn between the Momentum and the Amperior. The Amperior has a very slight edge with sound for me, but the Momentums are sooooo beautiful and still sound great. The deciding factor for me is going to be comfort - especially as I'd be using them with glasses, which has ruled out most other circumaural phones. So I'm interested to know whether you usually them with your glasses on, and how comfortable they are in that respect. Thanks.
laclan any chance of reviewing on senheiser momentum ON EAR versions? there's news on head-fi! btw after seeing your other videos! your speaking improved a lot in front of the camera! its much more natural now an you definately look less nervous
Nice video. I had been looking at these but it was this video that sealed the deal for me. Now i have them i have to say the sound is amazing, there light weight, very comfortable and they seem to bring bass when its needed but when your listing to a smooth song there is less bass (which my last headphones lacked as it was pure bass with them). Over all this video is vey accurate to how i feel. 5 star to the video and the headphones :D
What source player are you using? Most modern music players really will not need an amp for the Momentum. Even the tiny advantage a portable amplifier might have over the already very good output of things like smartphones is unlikely to be noticeable when you are out and about with them, and are less convenient to boot. But if you are going to spend long periods of time stationary with them then you can maybe think about a portable amp. Don't spend too much though.
Where did you purchased these headphones? I can't seem to find one where is the sowing of the band is black. The black ones that I found have a reddish sowing color
Hi,thank you for share your feeling about sennheiser.I do really love this brand for many years, well I just wondering how about IE80?have you ever experienced it and your feeling, thank you.
I bought my Momentum today ! It is a very well made headphone with great sound, but the earcups are a little small as you mentioned in the video. I listened to MDR-1R for a bit but I perfer momentum beacuse it has a warmer sound in my opinion. Thanks for your review, it helps me a lot!
Really nice video, i'm thinking of getting these for myself, but as you've stated and so have other reviewers - does get uncomfortable if ears are large. Would it be too much to ask you to post the size of the cans, as in the internal measurement of headphones?? BTW- I'm subscribed, keep up the good work. Thank God your accent is understandable!!
It's news to me too, but an extra category whatever the term would make sense in the case of the Momentum. They are absolutely not on-ear cans, but are undeniably smaller than typical over-ear Senheissers that actually cover the entire ear. Leon (the Sennheiser rep) agrees you'd need very small ears to have them completely fit in the cup. Incidentally, my ears (pressed down) are 7.5cm tall (measure imprint after pressing against iPad screen or mirror), how tall are yours?
No problem. I do believe these will be my next pair of cans. They're light weight, they have the ipod/iphone adapter & from all the reviews appear to be a nice "go between" the HD580's & HD650s.
Hi mate .... you improved a lot of this year!! ;-) And ... as you do now, background music can be distracting or even reduce the clarity of your message. But you changed that already ... Greetings from Belgium.
Can you compare the Sennheiser Momentum and the Sennheiser Urbanite? Particularly in terms of sound signature? I heard that the Urbanite is a bit more balanced...
I was debating on if I should buy the momentums for portable use, but are there another pair of portable headphones that would work better with female vocals?
Hi, great review, just have one question. Do you know if its easy to get replacement cables? I've been searching abit for extra cables for these, but just can't seem to find some anywhere. This is kinda the only reason that holds me back from buying a one of these, as the price is kinda steep if one cant find new cables anywhere.
I see you have reviewed both the Sony MDR-1r and the Momentums. Which do you prefer in regards to comfort and sound? I have an opportunity right now to get the Sony's for $199.99. Are the Sennheiser's worth an extra $150? Thanks
Do you still prefer Sennheiser Momentum over Sony MDR-1R? I have both of them, in the beginning I preferred Momentum but after a few weeks of listening to them now I really like Sony MDR-1R more than Momentum. MDR-1R takes very considerable time of burn-in to settle down.
Nice review :) I own the V-Moda M-100 and dislike the veiled mids/enhanced treble because of the mids. I actually have to EQ the treble down to listen to them, and still don't get a warm sound... Are these really that good? How are details in music? Do you have problems with portability seeing as you can't fold them up? I'm just wondering if I even like the closed signature. I used to own the PX-100 ii's and loved them, and had them for many years.
I'm torn between getting these or the Momentums. I'd use them mostly for my iPod and watching tv shows on my Mac. I listen to rock, alternative, indie, classical. Not really into electric music or hip-hop. What do you think?
adamz0037 Momentums are better for an all around usage. 598 are better sound wise, but are open backed so you can hear what happens around you and everyone can hear your music.
Very nice reviews. I was wondering if you know or if there any name of the technology used to attach the earpads and the frame... I was just wondering how it worked.
Really likes your unbiased review, i'm a basshead lover and i was considered V-Moda M100 and Sennheiser Momentum for my next purchase. I play music mostly with an iPod and used an amplifier (Fiio e11) to boost some bass (curently i'm using Sennheiser PX-100) I want to know what did you suggest between those 2 headphone, since i've heard M100 doesn't really work with some amplification. Oh yeah please note i've tried M50's before and i'dont like it because the bass not punchy at all.
I've heard the Momentum before and I have the HD650's which are an open back headphones and will have a much more neutral sound than the momentum which is a closed headphone with the characteristics of some slightly aggressive tuning in the low end. Other than that, they should sound quite different.
Thanks for the review Lachlan. Have you come across the Marshall Monitor before? I stumbled across those after getting a refund for my Sennheiser Momentums which were my 3rd pair with the same fault (static and cutting out of channels after loosening of the locking mechanism in the ear cup). I have to say the Monitor are the first headphone I've bought without reading any prior reviews. The sound, build quality and aesthetic immediately grabbed my attention, walked out with them minutes later. It gives the Momentums a good run for their money across the board. Note there is a Monitor FX model which seems to look identical, has a volume control cable but does not seem to share the same sound characteristics based on the reviews I've read. And wait till you hear them without the TFT filter in! Just another headphone worth your review I reckon ;-)
hey, i just got these headphones the other week and was wondering to do with the connection for the cable to the headphone itself, how much would a replacement cable be ?
This are the kind of headphones that are great for playing with eq settings. it seems somewhat like a blank slate when you get it imo. In my case on a nexus phone with DSP manager and Viper4android at the same time. The level of bass that these are capable of is insane considering how little bass they usually have. If you mess with settings correctly, you can boost the punchiness of the bass with out losing any clarity or causing overwhelming muffling. The potential of these headphones tends to be unlocked on rooted android devices. I don't know if iPhones have any equalizers apps.
lol told you and glad you enjoy them! I brought mine to school and I have a few beats owners and they are like wow, these sound amazing and they are more comfortable to them
Great Video. I buy my momentum today from apple and I hope you are right about this headphone. One thing I liked in your video is your voice. Very soft and agreeable to listen.
How is the included mic? I'm looking for an all around headphone. One that looks and sounds like audiophile headphones. I need good audio quality, good mic, over the ear headphones.
I think they both sound great, but I really don't like comparing the M50 with portable headphones. They are a studio use headphone and have a big, heavy design with a long cable and strong clamping force. You should check out my review on them: th-cam.com/video/9BYh1PgpMc8/w-d-xo.html
That's quite a drive from Tallaght. I just received the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro from Amazon and so far I'm deeply impressed. Running them through a Fiio E10 amp.
Sennheiser momentum or Bose quiet comfort 25? I live in a place full of bikies(motorbikes) and i travels in plane 3 times a year... Is the Bose quiet comfort 25 the way to go?
I am not good at describing sounds technically like what you did. I picked the one I felt comfortable with. The earcups are tolerable but I wish they can make them a littel bit larger. The MDR-1R didn't give a "clear" sound when I was listening. In addition, it is way more heavier than momentum. I owned a Panasonic RP-HTX9 for few years, it is a very good headphone in my opinion. However the leather on the earcups started to come off and thats why I was looking for a new pair of headphone.
Would you recommend the Sennheiser Amperior over the Momentum? When looking solely at sound quality what are your thoughts on those two compared to the Audiotechnica ES-700 and the ATH-M50? I care a lot about female vocals and I know you have said before that audiotechnica is really well done in this department, but I'm willing to compromise on that aspect for the overall sound quality of the product. Sorry I know I threw a lot of different variables in there. Any direction/guidance/advice is greatly appreciated! I love your reviews :) They're very informative and concise! Thank you so much!
I suppose it depends on how important noise canceling is to you. The QC25 might be slightly more comfortable and has amazing noise cancelation, but the Sennheiser Momentum sounds much much better.
A very good and informative review. I own a pair and I think they are pretty laid back. Suprisingly they seem to gain a lot from an amp. Comparing the sound straight from my iPod Touch versus a Fiio E7 the latter reproduces the lower bass frequencies a lot better. With a simple and cheap E7 Momentums give a real challenge when compared to my HD650's.
Recently I got the chance to try out a pair of these headphones, and I absolutely LOVE the sound. I feel like it's almost perfect for the characteristics I like to hear in music. Do you know how these sound compared to the B&O H6 or H7?
Just picked these up in black with red stitch with the case at Goodwill for $25. They are in excellent condition. Really happy with this find.

Totally agree. Would like to see more of what you have to say about the other headphones out there.

Hi Lachlan.. Great review! I bought this headphone 3 months ago. It rocks!! Really like the sound quality of momentum compare to other headphones.. cheers!
Great video! I can't wait to hear your opinion about the other headphones you mention.
Thank you for the response, however I was looking at what the speakers are actually resting on? it looks like a amp in a cage LOL

what about the sony mdr ex 450 bv that has an amplifier a bas boost system plus a vibratyion and what also the v moda crossfade m 100
Great review Lachlan! Love the background music
is there any websites other than ebay that you could pick up the over ear model for around 200$?
would you recommend the momentum over those other options

Weird question, but does the control built in mic work on PC?
This is such a helpful review Lachlan.
I've been torn between the Momentum and the Amperior. The Amperior has a very slight edge with sound for me, but the Momentums are sooooo beautiful and still sound great.
The deciding factor for me is going to be comfort - especially as I'd be using them with glasses, which has ruled out most other circumaural phones. So I'm interested to know whether you usually them with your glasses on, and how comfortable they are in that respect.

Have you tried the hd598s or hd380pros? If you have could you do a comparison on sound characteristics contrasting the two?
laclan any chance of reviewing on senheiser momentum ON EAR versions? there's news on head-fi! btw after seeing your other videos! your speaking improved a lot in front of the camera! its much more natural now an you definately look less nervous
How do these feel for extended periods of time (while wearing glasses)?
Nice video. I had been looking at these but it was this video that sealed the deal for me. Now i have them i have to say the sound is amazing, there light weight, very comfortable and they seem to bring bass when its needed but when your listing to a smooth song there is less bass (which my last headphones lacked as it was pure bass with them). Would you recommend the on ear or over ear momentum? does the different in price justify the quality enough?
in terms of sound quality is this better than the hd650s?
thank you - i'm convinced... and i'm going to watch your other reviews as well.
What source player are you using? Most modern music players really will not need an amp for the Momentum. But if you are going to spend long periods of time stationary with them then you can maybe think about a portable amp. Don't spend too much though.
Are the Momentums better than the Beats Pro?

thanks for the answer, may i ask why exaktly you prefer the Momentums?
Really nice video, i'm thinking of getting these for myself, but as you've stated and so have other reviewers - does get uncomfortable if ears are large. Would it be too much to ask you to post the size of the cans, as in the internal measurement of headphones??

I know is an old video but how would you compare this headphone vs Beats EP? Thanks
Sennheiser ie 80 Can you please show them also? Best regards.
is this better than HD650 in sound quality?
Hi mate .... you improved a lot of this year!! ;-)
And ... as you do now, background music can be distracting or even reduce the clarity of your message. But you changed that already ... Greetings from Belgium.
Thanks for the review and recommendation. Got them for a steal and.... WOW. They are awesome.
Would you recommend these or the Audio Technica ATH M50x? I have found a place where they are both of the same price.
Trust me man I use momentum for a lot of time now and trust me they sound amazing !!! And they are really comfortable!!
Get the Momentum
still using them lol ...
I have been using many headphones and I think Momentum in term of sound is like a portable HD650... but of course not as good as .
Parsee Mizuhashi Maybe wait to try the new Audio Technicas, they are usually pretty sweet with the ladies :) (I haven't heard it myself.)
Wow thanks for the reply o: Do they have a name or is it still in the works?

Hopefully you could review Heir 4Ai...
I'm torn between getting these or the Momentums. I'd use them mostly for my iPod and watching tv shows on my Mac. I listen to rock, alternative, indie, classical. Not really into electric music or hip-hop. What do you think?
Between these and the Momentums? Sorry you left this comment on the Momentum video lol im confused.
Damn it -___- I'm an idiot, sorry haha. I had been looking at HD 598 reviews as well.
Oh. Well the 598 is no good outside, it's an open headphone!
***** I was leaning towards the 598 since it's a bit cheaper, but now I'm not sure. Are these Momentums worth the price tag in your opinion?
adamz0037 Momentums are better for an all around usage. 598 are better sound wise, but are open backed so you can hear what happens around you and everyone can hear your music.

Hi there, have you tried B&O H2? I am deciding between Momentums and B&O H2. Thank you.
I didn't like the H2. It sounded very thick and congested. I would much prefer the Momentum Around Ear.
Thank you so much!

I've gotten quite a number of recommendations about those so I will definitely put it on the list!
What stand is that
hey, i just got these headphones the other week and was wondering to do with the connection for the cable to the headphone itself, how much would a replacement cable be ?
Honestly I have no idea, you might have to ask Sennheiser!
what is the name or brand of the stand you are using for the headphones...it's real nice
What do you prefer the momentum or akg k551/k550?
lol told you and glad you enjoy them! I brought mine to school and I have a few beats owners and they are like wow, these sound amazing and they are more comfortable to them
Are they Surround Sound?
well its passive NC isnt it? so doubt that you will be as satisfied as with a Bose QC15 or akg k495NC that uses active NC
Great video, funny enough Ive just ordered the amperior, hopefully I like them have you tried them?
Great Video. I buy my momentum today from apple and I hope you are right about this headphone. One thing I liked in your video is your voice. Very soft and agreeable to listen.
How is the included mic? I'm looking for an all around headphone. One that looks and sounds like audiophile headphones. I need good audio quality, good mic, over the ear headphones.
I'm afraid I really don't know how to compare the quality of the mic, I barely make phone calls as it is haha...
***** momentum vs audio technica ath-m50 please? I'm having a hard time to decide between these two :(
The M50 is not a very portable headphone. The Momentum is. That should help you decide.
***** how abt sound quality? Which one is better?
I think they both sound great, but I really don't like comparing the M50 with portable headphones. They are a studio use headphone and have a big, heavy design with a long cable and strong clamping force. You should check out my review on them: th-cam.com/video/9BYh1PgpMc8/w-d-xo.html
That's quite a drive from Tallaght. I just received the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro from Amazon and so far I'm deeply impressed. Running them through a Fiio E10 amp.
Momentums, m100s or ue9000? Need help!
Do you think its a very portable head phone? Can i comfortably skate or ride a bike with these headphones??
Sennheiser momentum or Bose quiet comfort 25? I live in a place full of bikies(motorbikes) and i travels in plane 3 times a year... Is the Bose quiet comfort 25 the way to go?
Vincent W I'd go the QC25 then.
Cheers man! Been trying to make up my mind for the past week, you helped a lot! :3
Would you still say these are recommendable to someone like me who loves the Sennheiser HD558 but dislikes the Momentum On Ear :) ?
hellomonow Hard to say, they might still be uncomfy because they are sort of inbetween those two sizes.
Hey I sub'd could you tell me what headphones i should go for to use on the go,On ear or over ear i don't mind and price range around £200. Thanks
I'm tossing between these Sennheiser Momentums and the Bose qc25. . .which one would be better for everyday use?
I suppose it depends on how important noise canceling is to you. The QC25 might be slightly more comfortable and has amazing noise cancelation, but the Sennheiser Momentum sounds much much better.
Where is that store?
I like these videos, very enjoyable information wise and sort of relaxing aswell. Nice job.
Great review!! Are you going to test Kef M500? It seem to be better than momentum according to head-fi folks.
Sennheiser HD8 DJ, Sennheiser Momentum or the much cheaper Audio Technica ATH-M50x? Which shall I buy?
Are these better than the ath m50
