How much is the inoculated mycelium bags he sells vs the 3/5lbs yield? How does he sterilise his grain? 👋 thanks John
@Freedom Family Meh... I'm asking here.
No answer to your question from 9 months ago is a pure sign a click bait video
If you want to increase your yield, wear plaid :)
Pure science
Or wear your birthday suit

So true
Without meaning to be confrontational, but take a moment to look into the mushroom growers. This guy, who seems great btw, is very much a prime example. Almost every supplier/grower is very open and willing, even eager, to help others grow also. Mushroom growing is the least competitive and contentious of all interests I have, of which gardening is one. There is much more anger and discontent in gardening groups than you find in mushroom growers.
I'm so glad somebody else pointed this out. The video includes misinformation with regard to the culture of mushroom growers. The video tries to promote an idea of getting in at the bottom floor of some industry upsetting process, but that's not true at all. All the information shared in his video is shared in many other videos--which is great!
agreed, the community is excellent and information is freely given lol, idk why he is saying thats its all this big hush hush

been a GYG viewer for almost a decade, culinary mushrooms are great and nutritious for sure. What I really want to hear is your experience is psilocybin mushrooms John! I recently got into microdosing using tmt pure mushroom capsules, 250mg of pure magic mushrooms each every other day. My anxiety and my depression literally vanished after a few months of usage

This is the best educational video on growing mushrooms/starting a mushroom farming business, that I've watched on TH-cam.
I loved this video. Best wishes to you in Puerto Rico and to Justin and his wife at Longview Mushrooms. I appreciated when Justin said, “you eat a piece of the earth and it becomes you”. That is spiritual as he also said. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. ❤❤❤
First time ever watching this guy and i dont know why, but i like him. I like how excited he is.. thats how i am everyday growing my magic mushrooms.
You are The Best! I have been a subscriber for years. Best video yet! I will be contacting this man and growing my own shrooms! Thanks!!!
This is great buddy! We met at my booth at the farmer's market (Mohave Mushrooms). I am still doing my thing out here, but moved to growing to make supplements !
Love this guys channel he is always finding great information
Absolutely inspiring video thanks a lot!
Outstanding video and interview. It really shows how anyone with dedication and effort can make a successful business. Very impressive!
FYI, you could also just use the kits as starters for different strains and then create a library of spore prints. Some strains will even keep going for a really long time without contamination if you carefully use techniques like grain to grain and spawning to substrate. Syringes with distilled water are very easy to make and agar isn't too difficult. Some strains can thrive outdoors too. Choir is your best friend, it fends off potential contamination from most common causes and it sets a solid foundation for mycelium to colonize. I've used it for a whole chamber once and it worked great. If you don't want to go that far you can simply put a layer of it on top of your substrate.
Do you mean coco coir? How does it reduce contamination? Thanks
@@YarrHarr11 Yes, I'm not sure of exactly how it does it but you can think of it like a very effective natural filter to contamination. It's a natural property of the coconut fibers that makes it very difficult for fungus and bacteria to take root. Not all brands are equal though. You'll want to source one that is comprised of 100% coconut fiber. If you get a cheap brand with filler then you'll end up with cotton and sawdust and other junk mixed in which can catalyze mold growth. You can pasteurize it for an extra level of security, I usually just put coir in a 5 gallon bucket and then introduce boiling water and let it sit overnight. It's hard to nail the correct amount of water on a first try but if you overdo it you can always ring out the fibers before using them. At any rate I've been growing mushrooms for 7 years now and I have not seen contamination since I started using coco coir 2 years ago. It's one of those rare things that feels like it's too good to be true but it actually is both that good and true.
As far as growing green goes, this has to be up there with one of the most energy efficient, food production systems I’ve ever seen!
Thanks for the video

It's super easy to buy the bags like this here in Thailand everywhere. Makes it easy for anyone to grow and sell mushrooms
Justin IS the new mushroom Industry! I'm very adamant on wanting to taste 'outside' when I eat mushrooms so I was never a fan of indoor farms; this interview definitely inspires me to reconsider though. Much love to you both :-)
Thank you so much for sharing we always learn from you. We trying to go from hobby to a micro mushroom farm

"supposedly" if you dry mushroms in the sun it increases the vitamin D content 50X, and it's a great way to store the mushrooms that can later be hydrated, or ground into a powder with a coffee grinder.
Thanks for this!

Don't murder the plants & herbs & animals are AWESOME but not people. But then you knew this.
Great thing with shrooms is you don't have to clear fields as for plants & kill all the lil creatures for vegan food.
Great video. I'd like to grow in Florida. Do you offer virtual classes?

Look on TH-cam... There are many farmers showing the entire process including taking wild specimens and cultivation indoors. Just FYI I've been growing mushrooms at home for over a year. Fun but not for me to be a full time growers. My neighbors and family get my extras... Also, you can grow mushrooms like Wine cap that do well outside. Have a great day.
Awesome guys!!🥳👏
Do they use Glyphosate Free Soy and Oats ? I would buy them if they test for it since soy and oats are typically sprayed to dry out the grain in the field.

Best to put in the extra variables, create your own spawn/bags, and then 10-20x+ while being able to do what they are doing as well. I'm not saying that this is not a great way to get started. But always strive to cut out a service like this ASAP and do it all yourself.
100%. Them selling bags to people for them to start kinda defeats the thing necessary to do their own business....getting the mushrooms to cultivate the bag. You need the knowledge to create the spawn, get a recipe for substrate, get a process to sterilize, cleaning, inoculating, etc. Them selling someone a block is basically doing 95% of the work and trying to skip to the finish.
Mushrooms ftw!
Those special blue mushrooms are blue oyster. Not really special, but very pretty.

The hardest part about growing to sell mushrooms besides the sterilization process, is finding buyers. Once you harvest, you have limited time before they're less perfect appearance-wise to sell fresh.

😂
That's a very gentle way to put it...
Why don't you grow shiitake?
the 'It's way easier than growing from seed' comment is really misleading, once you have grain spawn it's an extremely simple task to grow it exponentially. I can only assume you know this and don't have your viewers best interests at heart. Hope you made lots of money.
30 days using wood and soybean pellets is very impressive. The pellets get so hot from the extrusion process they are practically already sterile. I'm less impressed with pressure cooker sterilization. I ran numerous batches that went to 25 psi for a 1/2 hour and afterward little tiny bugs would break out of the straw I was using as media. When I boiled the straw for an hour there were no bugs. Obviously the pressure cooker was somehow inadequate.
Half an hour is not long enough. Any research will show you lower psi at a longer time limit will produce a much better outcome. Higher temps at a shorter time frame will not work. 15-17psi for 90 minutes is the go-to.
@@SherriShelleyMarshal hey, thanks! Could you suggest some research papers about this?
You forgot the hydration of the grain, they dont put dry/non hydrated grain into the pressure cooker.

mushrooms are as pretty as any flower.
Amazing but my issue is with boiling up the PLASTIC bags with the oats. How is that healthy?????? There has to be other ways to sterilized the oats instead of poisoning the oats with melting plastic particles in them. I understand this is due to speed up the process and streamline it for mass quantities but is not healthy.
Could use canning jars. Cost more.
Could use a glass container or something just for that one mushroom and then transfer it to the bag. I agree with you. Plastic shouldn't be heated ever.
its a specific type of bag designed for autoclaves and pressure cookers, its as safe as you can get apart from using mason jars in a pressure canner. Almost everything we buy in the grocery store is heated to high temperatures and put into plastic bottles so they create a proper seal. All our ketchup, salad dressings, sauces, are all sealed inside the plastic container.
