Living in the suburbs of Illinois, I personally had both before, and my favorite is Lou Malnati’s. Giordano’s is still good but Lou Malnati’s is better in my opinion.

Been a HUGE Giordanos fan for years, still in love with it and always claimed my favorite pizza. Just tried Lou Malnatis and the one thing is the crust is definitely better, and I never even like crust. That made it a better experience to eat. BUT the insane amount of perfect cheese in Giordanos will always keep it ahead, mind blowing cheese and thickness.
Lou's crust is the best imo. Giordanos does give more cheese, but as a whole I find Lou's to be a tastier pizza.

I visited Illinois last summer, staying in a suburb of Chicago visiting relatives. We ordered Giordano's one evening and I have never eaten a pizza so delicious! Curious to try Lou Malnati's next time I'm in the area to see if it holds up! :)
Lou's has the better crust. Gios has more cheese and better sauce. Lous seems to win most taste tests, I grew up with a GIos and Lous 5-10 mins from my house. So we always had both growing up. My wife is a Gios girl all the way.
Alot of people really also recommend Pequads and its super overrated.
i love thin crust, and i always will. but that cheese pull is *_sexy_*
Lou Malnati's is number one! 10/10 for me. The crust is so buttery and delicious, it might be a bit plain for some people but if it is I would recommend getting their homemade sauces that are also delicious and incredible! I always get their homemade ranch whenever ordering pizza because it fits perfectly with it.

It's a very tough call, I love them both. Giordano's tends to have more cheese while Lou Malnati's tends to have better sauce. Both have excellent crust.

I've had Malnati's and Giordano's. Malnati's by far is superior. Aside from a heart attack amount of cheese, I thought Giordano's crust had too much flour, and there was nothing special about it. Malnati's crust was flaky, buttery, and the toppings were just right. Malnati's all the way!

Spent a few days in Chicago, and made it a point to try both places. Got "The Special" at Giordano's (minus the green pepper) and the "Chicago Classic" at Malnati's. Personally -- although they were both good -- I liked Malnati's better. Their crust was more flavorful, and their sauce had more of a fresh tomato taste. Your mileage may vary.
Chicago Classic with mushrooms and fresh basil on top is the best way
I always try to explain to out of towners that there are two types of deep dish here. The pan with the crushed tomato sauce and crunchy crust and the stuffed crust with the smoother sauce and the two crusts.

I've had a traditional Italian pizza before(well it is owned by an italian couple from italy who make everything handmade) and it actually isn't super cheesy like the ones in the video. I mean it did have a lot but not so much until it just overpowers everything. The place i went to, the bottom pastry bit was super thin and the crust was enormous and super crunchy and it was hollow AND you could taste the traditional Italian-ness of it
I've use to eat both of these pizzas growing up and they suit different moods. The crust at Lou's has a yeastyness that blows Giordano's out the water but if you are looking for the cheese you know where to go.

goldsheikh, yes! I grew up in Chicago (129th Place & Parnell). My Dad was Italian, and the only pizza we knew about and enjoyed was thin crust. Of course, I was eventually introduced to deep dish, by fellow Chicagoans. The key phrase is "fellow Chicagoans", because there are a few strange birds on another site ("The Don'ts of Visiting Chicago"), who claim things like "Nobody here eats it; it's for tourists only.."
While they are certainly ignorant for saying this, there is some support on Wiki for the preference of Chicagoans for its also famed thin crust pizza: "This pizza is cut into squares, also known as "tavern style" or "party cut", as opposed to being cut into wedges. Among locals, thin-crust actually outsells the more widely known deep-dish style."
Obviously the abovementioned TH-cam commenters dislike it personally, like my Dad disliked rock music and declared, "Nobody listens to that!" (Subjective, not objective statements.) Speaking of rock music, one of my more famous fellow drummers (Danny Seraphine on his tutorial video) recommends Due's for deep dish pizza. While I have had only Gino's East (excellent!), I bow to the conviction of everyone else here that Lou Malnati's and Giordano's are tops. I live in Phoenix now ("eh"), and we're happy to see Gino's (and Portillo's) have come to town!

Hands down Giordano's. Take this from me, I'm from Chicago, and as much as Lou Malnati's is great, Giordano's is just amazing.

You are so lucky. I live in Madison Wisconsin and I'm nowhere near either one. Closest Lou Malnati's is an hour drive (suburban Milw.) and the closest Giordano's is a 50 min drive (Rockford). Consider yourself lucky.

I've had both and Lou's is by far my favorite all time pizza. I've tried a few different locations for giardanos and I find it bland in comparison. The sausage from Lou's is also outstanding.

I went to Giordano's expecting something great, don't get me wrong the pizza was very good and pizza is pizza. But it didn't live up to my expectations though, probably won't return but still a very good experience there 👍 I liked the Latin food there it was bomb.
