Thanks for the great videos! I have a small ceiling repair (1sq ft) .. I got the hot mud (45), will I need to do the 3rd coat with AP or can I just use more hot mud for all the coats?
If you can put it on without creating a hump you have to sand off you can, maybe. You can't put hot mud on real thin because if it air dries, before the time on the bag, it doesn't cure right and doesn't have the proper bonding strength. Manufacture says this.
Great video. Your experience really shows. Will water damage where the ceiling meets the wall continue to get worse over time? Im trying to figure out if the roof repair is still leaking. I think it is fixed yet the tape seems to to getting worse.
When i use my wen sander after i pull it away from the cieling i grab the vacuum tupe attached to the head and yank it back and forth a few times so all the dust will get sucked up then turn off the vacuum. That way when you turn the head upside down it wont drop all the heavy dust collected in the head everywhere. Thanks for the video
Great video! Can I use this method on my double wide marriage line on the knock down textured ceiling? The batten strip is falling down in my master bedroom. Thank you sir! I'm a USAF vet, worked in Wilford Hall. When I came to the US from N. Ireland, I was grateful & thought serving my new country was one way to say thanks.

You mentioned bubbles when skim coating over painted surfaces. So if I'm going to skim coat an entire wall that did not have any repairs done should I expect all of it to bubble? Should I prime the wall first and then skim coat? (I didn't see that in some of your previous videos about skim coating). In this video it sounds like I should just go over it with more mudd. If so do I recoat it right away, or wait for the first coat to dry?
Why can't you use all purpose joint compound on mesh tape? Sorry for the dumb question but I am new to this. I already went out to buy all purpose joint compound cause I was in no rush, and now it seems i need the hot mud cause I have mesh tape? I wonder if I could use masking tape in place of not having the drywall tape. I know its probably another dumb question, but I am frustrated to go back in a 2 hour line up to get supplies at the store thanks to covid 19. Thanks for the video by the way!
This video explains it, and yes it's important, and no you can't use masking tape. But to cut the line, look up a drywall supply company. One that does nothing but, as they're never busy. Or True value will have it, albiet a little more costly, or even Sherwin Williams often carries it. th-cam.com/video/A4VpiYxV7EU/w-d-xo.html
I usually presand around most repairs to make the mud stick better and haven't seen it help with that. I've tried about every method on youtube too, including dish soap, etc and nothing really helps much. Thanks, Guy
Roflmao, how long did you put up with that ugly patch it started with? That would have driven me nuts, id have fixed it years ago. First day we moved into our house I had patches on every wall becuse I cant stand looking at somone else's sloppy work. Id rather look at my fresh patch thats not painted. As for what I ment differt way to do somthing on that celing patch my dad taught me to make a bevel on both edges to tape over that way you wont be blending out 24" to cover the patched area, you can do this with a box knife or grind it out why I said differt ways to do stuff. Your patch looked good it was a differnt way to do it as for making it a solid repair you can put a metal tape into it to hold the screws that bring the drywall to the wood then tape over it . Like I said differnt ways to do things.

You do the best explaining of any subject I've seen on YT. Kudos to you and thumbs up.
Thanks so much! 😎
I appreciate his calm attitude and straightforward instruction, drywall work is the least fun and he tackles it with ac level head. Thanks guy!

@@ThatKiltedGuyDIY thanks!
Thank you drywall dad I never had
Great video. Your experience really shows. Will water damage where the ceiling meets the wall continue to get worse over time? Im trying to figure out if the roof repair is still leaking. I think it is fixed yet the tape seems to to getting worse.
Once it’s dry, it won’t get worse unless it’s still leaking
Super helpful Tysm!

Normally I don’t have to worry about it so much, but that’s a good idea. Thanks
Love this video! I was wondering what grit sandpaper did you use with the electric sander?
Usually 80 or 150

it should work and thanks for your service.
How about in rain water damage on veneer wood flooring' the veeneer skin has peeled off what can i do? thanks.
Is that yellow mud all purpose joint compound or hot mud?

Yeah you usually have to just go over it with a second coat anyway anytime after it has set up well and is close to dry
It cost money to join now a days? But thanks for the video!
To join what?
Guy, why did you use hot mud for the 2nd coat instead of All-Purpose mud?
The advantage to hot mud is always, Less Shrinkage, and faster recoat times. So in this case I could put 3 coats on in just over an hour.
How much joint compound do I need for this job?
I’ll teach that in a course in my online training site at www.DrywallAcademy.com
Whats the minimum width one should expand to on a repair where the mesh tape was placed in the groove of the previous damaged tape?
Enough to not have a hump that shows
Our ceiling leak is almost 3 years because of our busy schedule, it is possible to fix it even not to use drill on it before coating?
I can’t answer that

Re. bubbles due to painted surface, would pre-sanding the surrounding areas of the patch prevent bubbles?
I usually presand around most repairs to make the mud stick better and haven't seen it help with that. I've tried about every method on youtube too, including dish soap, etc and nothing really helps much. Thanks, Guy
Wood glue.
What grit?
For sandpaper? 80 for coarse sanding, 150-220 for fine
Thanks watching another drywall vid now👌🏾
❤
Key point, fix the leak first, just an FIY
Be a shame to do all this work to have it all screwed up in a week becuse you still have a leak
You don’t need to talk too much
Roflmao, how long did you put up with that ugly patch it started with? That would have driven me nuts, id have fixed it years ago.
First day we moved into our house I had patches on every wall becuse I cant stand looking at somone else's sloppy work. Id rather look at my fresh patch thats not painted.

it was a rental and I hate fixing someone else’s property for free when I’m paying them rent especially. But I finally did it
I expected to see textured painting video. Otherwise I justed wasted my time. Sorry.
