How To Repair And Decorate A Ceiling After Water Damage

- This is a step by step video showing the process of how to fix up a ceiling that has been damaged by a water leak. I used a Stanley blade to cut back the lining paper then scraped off any loose friable surfaces. Next I used Zinsser Cover Stain and once dried I used Easyfill 20 with a caulking board undoing a couple of skims. Once gone off I sanded down with a Mirka Dustless Sander.
I caulked the gaps around the edges and then primed the area with Optiva Primer by Tikkurila.
Then I was ready to decorate the whole ceiling with two coats of Anti Reflex 2 by Tikkurila. Job done.
Great video thanks so much

Great job👏👏👏
Thanks mate
Used AR2 for the first time the other day and now not using anything else on lids.
Spot on mate I'm the same
I've filled and then used Cover Stain previously, so would that create a potential issue? Thanks
Either way around is fine.
@@danielnugent2168 Thanks for clarifying 👍
Hi Daniel. That cover stain can be really thick. Do you use that neat? x
Hi. Yes sometimes or you can thin it down with white spirits aswell. All depends on what surface etc. Cheers Dan
When using cover stain do you spot prime the cover stain before painting everything else?
Yes you can do. But I usually do 2 coats after anyway
So just two regular coats over the whole ceiling and it’ll be okay?
@@AlfGuitar yes once your area of covers tain has dried fully
You done a nice job of the filling, but havn't showed how you done that??
I basically use a caulking board and I like the Gyproc Easyfill 20 because it goes off quick so I could sand it down the same day.
For sanding I use the Mirka Dustless Sanding System which is a game changer with a 120 pad. I always do a couple of skims of the filler. Cheers Dan
OK thanks for that.Nice to see a video maybe sometime making those bad areas good again with the easy fill.
Why the oil based cover stain and not the 123?
I find it a better product as I've used the water based 123 and stains came back through where this dries so quick and can be painted over with water bands paints.
It's just personal preference. Cheers Dan
@@danielnugentpainteranddeco557 never tried it with the fear WB paints would peel off. Good to know, thanks for the reply
