    I’m a diy’er. Just inherited a home with a lot of water damage in ceilings and can’t find anyone to come out to house to fix drywall. It’s in the middle of West Virginia. So your videos are really helpful. Thank you.

    Cool thanks, right on time. I'm doing a popcorn removal then patch where I removed a leaking skylight. So there's some water damage to cutout and repair. With your help I'll have some confidence to skim coat the bathroom ceiling. Relatively small, 5x10 room.

    Hey, Paul! Thanks for the videos. We recently bought a house that had (much to our surprise) a 2nd floor shower drain that leaked. Leak is fixed but now we have a hole in the kitchen ceiling. I cut out the damaged part, but before I attempt the repair I wanted to know if I should remove all the drywall that has water staining, or if it can be left if it's still solid. Cheers!

    • @aussie8114
      @aussie8114 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it’s stained only then there’s no need to remove it. Just apply a coat of a water stain sealer, usually metho based, prior to your painting. You can buy this in liquid or a spray can. Having said that there’s no harm in cutting out a slightly larger area than your existing hole. An experienced repairer can do a cut out repair pretty easily. I’ve done hundreds of them.

    If other parts of the ceiling are so rough and uneven why make the repair area perfectly smooth? I assume the next step was to sand the entire ceiling anyway?

    Got tired of using the drywall saw for this work. Just because I forgot my drywall saw and had my Dewalt 4 1/2" cordless saw (with dust bag) with me, I used it to cut the hole in the drywall, and have never looked back.

    Hi. I'm a DIYer. Your video is very helpful. My question to you is this. My house was built in '65, split ranch. Ok. Now, I noticed the ceiling over the bathtub peeling. I pulled the hanging piece and it came down. A little more came down. When I examined it. There was a hole. All in all I believe it is about 8 inches round more or less. The hole does not show drywall. I can't make out what it is. It is not wet. I'm thinking it is plaster and it started to peel away from the moisture and humidity and painting. Can you please give me your thoughts on my hole in the bathroom? What is the best way to fix it? Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

    DIYer here : would u suggest Fiibafuse for a ceiling or wall crack (versus mesh tape for example?) I would use hot mud with FF, rather than normal joint compound.

    Hi Paul - Is there anyway you can show a ceiling repair that needs to match a "fan" pattern? I have a fairly large one to do and am afriad I won't get it matched up correctly.

  • @jesse818
    @jesse818 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    On your other video, you placed the tape after the joint mud process. This video, tape is placed with All Purpose compound. Is there good reason for this? Also, after mud and Joint Compound, can you still see the joint area where to place the tape?

  • @bhumane8642
    @bhumane8642 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    forgive me, I'm a novice. Why the dry mix compound, then the joint compound? Also, what is the purpose of the tape if you are using joint compound? Forgive my ignorance. Also, when you initially made your large cut out, how did you know you were at the studs? Did you measure it on purpose that way? I think you have links to this.

    A few years ago we had solar installed and in the process one of the crew put his foot through the ceiling talking out a 4x4 section of drywall so they had a guy come make the repair and it was obvious he didn't know what he was doing. When he put the mud on he left the edges proud which stuck out like a sore thumb and when I told him it was unacceptable he said well nobody could make it blend in. They finally sent a real drywall guy and he did a great job

    I’ve used a large hole saw to cut an inspection hole. Very quick and only the center drill bit needs to go beyond the drywall thickness, thus reducing the chances of cutting into a wire, pipe, duct etc.

    I used the FibaFuse in the corner just folded it with a yard stick like paper. I didn't want to go buy entire roll of paper to fix one hole. It come out nice can't even tell the FIbaFuse is really nice used to use mesh for repairs but switched to this that way just have one compound no need for setting compound. I also used regular joint compound for years before didn't know any better never had a problem with cracking.
