  • In this video we talk about the effectiveness of soft-washing a roof using sodium hypochlorite. Original strength 15% diluted down to 4/1 3.75% Always remember to use the correct PPE for soft washing. No power washing / jet washing
    Power-washing / Jet washing whilst highly effective can cause untold damage to any surface when done incorrectly so please seek professional assistance or hire a professional to do the the work for you to avoid costly damage to your project.

      Hey Matt, this is a vintage video from 2016 that I came across on my laptop having a clear up this morning. I don't do roofs and such anymore as too busy on the windows. If you look at the conservatory cleaning video that shows the machine used for this job. Cheers.

I have asked for a link to the machine/ set up he used but never replied. Think he had a bad experience with hypo so dosent want to share the knowledge. "Soz darren all said with respect mate" M

    Roof cleaning contractors who use sodium hypochlorite (chlorine bleach) mix it in high concentrations with other chemicals such as trisodium phosphate, also known as TSP.
    They spray it on the roof and wait for it to dry and then re-apply it several times as needed. Stains and moss or lichens that don’t come off on the day of treatment may eventually come off with rain in the months to come.
    Pros: The bleach method can be less expensive than other methods because the chemicals are inexpensive and the technicians generally don’t get on the roof to rinse or inspect after the application.
    Cons: Strong chemical odor and results that may not be instant, particularly when moss and lichen colonies are involved. There is also a possibility of posing harm to people and pets if exposed to the fumes or fluids. The effects of bleach on landscaping can cause permanent damage to plants, trees, grass and shrubs. Contaminating bleach and phosphates can leak into waterways in watershed areas.
    Tip: Roof cleaning contractors who use chlorine-bleach typically don’t advertise or divulge that they use bleach. If they need to wet down plants before, during, or after treatment or use a runoff recovery system or cover plants during the roof cleaning process, these are indicators that a harsh chemical such as chlorine bleach is being used

      Some good info there Ash. We use a lot of SH in roof cleans, diluted to 2.5% strength, lower than most household bleaches. We also then add a surfactant, basically soap to help the SH 'cling' to the surface better.
      We let all clients know EXACTLY what we're doing and how and so far no complaints.
      The only secret to using any types of chemicals to clean any surface is to do so responsibly.

    Interesting debate mate on pressure washing tiles....hear so many different stories....couple of questions mate i assume you are applying SH....what mix do you use mate?....do you leave it on for like 20 mins then wash off...then apply a biocide? Where did you get your pole and softwash system? Thanks mate

    • @Darren-Green
      @Darren-Green  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Many customers just want clean. I found when offering biocides they have a sense that it's not worth it as it took 10 years for the roof to get that way to start with. But yes, SH at around 2.5% for 20 or 30 min tea break.

What type of surfactant do you use please ? What do you use to mask the smell. I was nervous about the over spray going on neighbours cars ? I asked them to move them. Would it damage the paintwork on the cars if oit did ho on them ? Thanks forcyour informative videos. Stay safe.
