    Welcome home Ashley.
It's true South Africans and AAs have a lot in common, and more understanding of each other's nuances.
I studied in the US, and didn't experience any culture shock, but I couldn't wait to come back home.
AAs will flourish more in SA than any other African country.

“AAs will flourish more in SA than any other African country” Yes AA can flourish in SA but where do you get audacity and knowhow to say “than other country in Africa”. First Ashley happy new year and wish you God speed in your relocation. I too a native of Kenya studied and lived in US for 25 years. Both SA and US have a history of direct and brutal white exploitation of black peoples. When I visited SA, I found everything I loved about America and with time I had started uncovering everything I hated about US and it was time to head back to EA. I loved the gifted and warm Azania people but saw Mzungu finger print on every aspect of the economy. AA and many other Africans like me returning from abroad are drawn to SA due to its western lifestyle, infrastructure and mostly for AA the common bond of racial struggle with black SAs that people who have never left Nigeria, Kenya or Tanzania may not understand. Also many AA move to SA due to need to fit quickly with least inconvenience than moving to less developed country such as Sierra Leone where heavy lifting will be required on their part. I have to say both Tanzania and SA need rebirth or second liberation, TZ need democratic rebirth to support their economical freedom and SA need black economical rebirth to support democratic freedom, the economical racial inequality in SA is not sustainable we just hope for rebirth to be peacefull. I have found better balance and future in Nairobi but wish you the best of luck in SA.

Welcome to South Africa lovely sister, we so happy if you found that South Africa is the country you love and you've found that there is a similarity with black America. For me I think because there are so many things we've been lied to, may be there are black Americas who were taken from South Africa for slavery to Babylon America. Because we were told that all black Americans were only taken from West Africa like Nigeria, Ghana, Syria Leon etc. But not in South Africa but I also found that there is a similarity between South Africans and black Americans such as our English can be so understandable by black Americans I mean accent. I'm not saying our brothers and sisters from other African countries are not understandable but I mean there are English words which they call differently from us South Africa of which sometimes we South Africans we find it hard to get them unless we have to pay fully attention in order to get them. And I really don't know why is that, until I find someone who can clarify for me. My regards and kiss to your little beautiful girls🥰🥰🙏🏾🙏🏾

Dig your energy Ashley ! Best of luck in South Africa.
I'm in a multi-stage move from New York back home (Zimbabwe). One of those stages is setting up a tech lab in Zim focused on Data Science and Machine learning. Our education system is wonderfully primed for that.
I'm in Fintech right now. Been in tech in the US for over a decade.
There are a lot of opportunities for Africans in the global tech space. And we can absolutely compete globally. Primarily because it will be a long time before our labour costs are anywhere near what they are in the tech space in the States. I plan to take full advantage of that.

Its pretty simple. You get Western amenities at 3rd world prices. Which is a fine motivation, I don't know why people (especially diasporians are reluctant to admit this).
I went to a mixed school government + private. Lol government schools are trash, I noticed the more government based, it became, the worse it became. So you have to decide, either go to the prominent black schools, or private schools (majority are mainly white, lots of subtle racism), or go to mixed private/public schools, for the best of both worlds. Don't go full government, bad idea.
You also say its "afro-centric', lol our education system is not afro-centric, during high school we learnt about the America's, colonialism, apartheid, and Germany. I have not been in high school for about 10 years, so maybe it has changed, but I doubt it has changed much.
Yeah, South Africans are very patriotic, its rare for us to be economic migrants, you will only find racist apartheid yearning, European descendants, that have immigrated in bulk to Australia, UK etc, but even they return to South Africa, after they realize their priviledge disappears over there, and its cold and expensive.
South Africa is also better for diasporians, because your yearning to be connected to Africaness won't be exploited. I noticed, mainly in West Africa, they will roll out the red carpet, and make you a chief as soon as you get off the plane, but this is to extract resources from you. In South Africa it is more genuine, we just see you as you are, not something to use.
Anyway, I am glad you enjoy South Africa, my main problem as a local is load-shedding, its annoying, especially when you work online, its the main reason I want to leave, it will probably get worse, if we don't get rid of the ANC.

The education has changed, still is. In government schools kids are learning about ancient African civilizations and customs. Learning about places like Mapungubwe as early as Grade 4. And yes, government schools are definitely not the best but they are not as bad as you make it sound. My former school "Buhlebethu High", for an example has never gotten anything below 90% for their matric pass rate. I am a PhD candidate but went to public schools from Primary to High School. So, they are not great but they are not horrible either. Some are better than others obviously.

@@NEMESIS_10 Oh yea, I remember we also had Mapungubwe, Egypt, Nguni/Basotho and Khoe history, but honestly thats about it. Majority was World-centric based history. Definitely not afro-centric though. So outside of those I mentioned, what else are you guys learning, that is "afro-centric', I am not saying this to argue with you, I am just curious. As I said I have not been in high school for 10 years.
