Please check out my new channel too if you don't want to miss any videos:- www.youtube.com/@GadgetUKExtra Note: There's no flickering at all when viewing on the 1084S-D1, the flickers seen on this video are likely due to angle I was filming (at times), coupled with the fact my camcorder was capturing at 50fps, when the CRT was displaying 60Hz (when testing US and JPN regions). Consoles Unleashed - www.consolesunleashed.com/
Quite nice! I spun out my own boards for the first and second mega drive to incorporate all the functionality of a no switch region mod, a remote reset mod and a dfo, ill probably redo it soon with my own code to get rid of one pic just for the remote reset though :)
Wow! I've got this exact problem with my megadrive in NTSC mode, I couldn't find any info about it online so it is a perfectly timed video lol. Happy Christmas to you and all your loved ones, plus thank you for another great year of content 👍
I installed a DFO on a pal mega drive with a switchless region mod just last month to fix an issue (black and white screen /bad picture) when playing in NTSC mode using composite video . Both mods were from consoles unleashed and it worked a treat 👍🏻
This is actually the first time I've seen the inside of a Mega Drive. Interesting you mentioned the humming sound as mine does it also, and I assume they all do it. Its a horrible sound to hear when the Machine is Booting/Loading/Switching Games. I bought a new Plug a few years ago, but doesn't solve it. Nice setup you got there, which looks quite comical with each system on top of the other. Does the Sega Cd and Mega Drive Consoles connect to each other or just it just sit on top? Nice Mod also Chris, it amazes me with your precision soldering. Nice CRT and a nice list of Games you showed. Streets of Rage soundtrack is amazing. Thanks for your support this year Chris, and thanks for your Videos. Hope you have a great Christmas. Sssseeeeeggggaaaaaa.
That might be due to the electrolytic that is often fitted in that jumper area??? Check that next time you are in there! I do hope you have a good Christmas Stu and a Happy New Year!
Great video ive seen that mod and been curious about it. Any chance you could do the triple bypass mod in future? I can recommend trying the Pal version of Striker its a good test for the crystal it flashes constantly on screen on NTSC perfect on PAL.
SoR 1/2/3 (among others) use the 240 Vres in PAL, but if in that mode you switch to 60hz you get a rolling screen because the hsync info is supposed to be in the additional lines. Also, some games ( again, the SoR so) do detect the frequency and adjust the sound speed. The most notorous game to not adjust is Sonic 1 which is slooooww on 50hz
Very interesting! But I dont get a rolling sync - ie. not to the eye. The CRT captures a rolling band there, but to the eye the CRT is perfect now with the DFO fitted. I agree in respect to some games detecting frequency and adjusting game core mechanics etc. Sonic speeds up (or slows down), other games largely behave the same regardless.
@@GadgetUK164 at 30:58 you do get a rolling screen because SoR is launched in 50hz and uses 240p, also the music is slowed down ; I think the check is only done at start.
Honestly never seen direct replacements! I would be tempted to look at the Saturn sets you get on AliExpress and eBay, and cut one down to size to try and fit in place - if possible?
It really does depend on the display! My modern displays had no issue either, just the 1084 CRT.... If the DFO mod isn't done, you do get timing differences in a few places too that can make things behave oddly in certain games.

Thanks Jamie =D Have a great Christmas and Happy New Year! Keep up the amazing job on your channel - always a joy to watch!
Solid Golden Axe gameplay!
I got the exact same mood. It worked for about a week and then just constantly kept rotating through the regions.
Their 32x reason mod is excellent

Jos mods are great. Put them on all my sega gear. His master system mods are especially good.
Any link for Megadrive rubber pads for 3 button controller

not sure about wearing a coat of mail while soldering 😀
LOL!
I havent had this problem on any of my displays, I'm using two switches, one for en/jp, one for 50/60hz on the megadrive

Happy Xmas chris Love the Megadrive i have a factory sealed one never been opened and never will.
