    As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. His training techniques and tips really work. Thank you as well for dedicating your life's work to rescue dogs, and to rescuing those of us who want the very best for our 4-legged family members.

    I love how you admit your mistakes! A lot of trainers make videos with dogs that are already trained and for you to admit your mistakes shows that you are genuine! Thank you so much!!!

    Great video...I just bought the book from Amazon. We inherited my son's one year old lab / mix dog after he passed. We traveled to Las Vegas, where they lived, as he was in the air force. She had over a week in the home without him, then had to be flown in a crate to Portland to begin her new life with us and blend into a home with a pomeranian, black lab and a cat. She has serious anxiety, wears a thunder vest, takes prozac and has gone through obedience training. We are still struggling to walk her on a leash, get her to mind in hi stimuli environments or when visitors come. She will listen in controlled situations and is seemingly very intelligent. Smarter than I am apparently. We are making progress and are commited to her being a successful member of our household but she is a handful. Her daddy didn't work with her on day to day manners and now she has this new world to adjust to. Any advice is welcome.

    Hi Mr. George,
    I just wanted to thank you for your videos. (Will be purchasing your book as well) I just recently gotten a new puppy. First time puppy owner and I honestly felt so ready for her, but I honestly wasn't! When people told me that potty training was hard, I knew it was going to be hard but I did not think it was going to be this damn hard. But thanks to your videos and your advice. I literally soaked all your information in and applied it to my puppy and so far she's doing good!!!!! Thank you so much!!! With that being said, I potty train her taking your advice. I taught her how to sit, lay, and get up. Even speaking as well and to be quiet. I pretty much mimic your videos and applied it to her and so far, everything is working. Thank you thank you!!

      why would you buy a dog when there are so many in shelters you selfish fuck

    • @Bellencer
      @Bellencer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Lily Star Not all countries have a shelter dog crisis, some people can't have shelter dogs. I was on a waiting list for TWO YEARS for a dog that fit my lifestyle (can live with cats, other dogs, children) so don't be so judgemental. Not everyone has the time, resources or even the shelters to be able to get a dog.

      Lily, how did you get from this happy dog conversation to "you stupid fuck" without any intermediate discussion. Before deciding that maermaerlene is a stupid fuck, don't you think a couple of questions might be in order?

    • @maermaerlene
      @maermaerlene 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lily Star Im not an american, you weirdo. Im from Norway, where we dont have a problem with homeless dogs. I mean, it exsist. But its usually dogs who other people decided they could not have anymore. I think we only have a handfull of shelters in our entire country. Oh, and btw i bought this dog from my MOTHER, who could not afford having her with 3 other dogs who allready lived there. No one would buy her, because they said she was ugly etc. I did not pay for her in that way, I only paid for her medical expences. I mean... Ask me before creating your own asshole story about me. There is a world outside of USA who dont share your kind of problems

    • @maermaerlene
      @maermaerlene 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Btw, before complaining about my mother being stupid for brining a dog in she could not afford: I bought a puppy from my mothers dog litter. She got pregnant with NINE puppie, and the last girl no one wanted because she looked "ugly" compared to the rest. (was not planned, but she do have a boy jack russel so she knew the risk)

  • @embuikema
    @embuikema 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love how Zak lets us see the moments where the training doesn't quite go as planned. So often you see the dog progress almost perfectly through the training and you never see the many setbacks that took place in the process - it can cause some frustration for owners who try to imitate what they saw the trainer do in the video and have so many more setbacks than the trainer appeared to have. It can make you feel like you're not doing it right, at which many owners just give up and say it didn't work when really they just had to keep at it for awhile longer. Zak's inclusion of the various setbacks and "failures" that happen during the training is not only helpful in terms of reminding us that it's not going to be smooth sailing, but also in terms of being able to then explain why the setback may have occurred (ie. "Okay, so that was kind of a disaster, I kind of let it go for too long") and what to do next if that happens. Very helpful!

    Hi Zak, I love your videos and am hoping you can help me.
    I have an 11yr old malamute who has car anxiety.
    He opens his bowels in the car and not only is the smell repulsive, his actions are causing us not to include him in anything that requires car travel.
    Also he doesn't need to actually be in a car for it to happen, an open car door is enough to set him off.
    Would you know of any non prescription treatments we could try?
    We adore our boy and not being able to take him places with us is hard for us, knowing he is home alone when he should be with us.
    Many thanks, Hells...😊🐺😊

    I used a string that was high enough they couldn't step over and low enough they couldn't crawl under well, and the string had a series of bells on it as an alarm for us humans. It only took three corrections for the dogs to associate the bells with boundaries, eventually phasing out the string. I found that using a visual line on the floor whether it be a specific tile line across the floor, a piece of tape, carpet edge, or whatever you may have helps them learn those lines when the bells are gone. Takes about a week or so for all my dogs over many years of different pooches and it worked every time. Only thing is that you HAVE to be consistant and prompt when responding to the bells.

    Zak, have you considered creating a "zak George Trained Certification" Pet owners submit videos meeting a training curriculum specified by you, and for a fee you provide a level 1, 2, or 3 Certificate of training. Or even a Zak George Certified Trainer. And offer Master Trainers Certifications. I don't know, I know I would like to say I'm a Zak George Certified Master Trainer, and would be willing to meet the requirements and pay the associated fees. Just some thoughts. I love your videos. I was taught a counter intuitive way to train dogs when I was young, your way is much better. Thanks for all your video.

    My daughter wants to get a dog. We live in the country with a road by the house. My old dog we dug a small trench and put a invisible fence down along the road. We only had to use this for about a month and the dog learned to stay out of the road when he was out by himself. The invisible fence has been gone for years now. Do you have any ideas of how to train the dog to stay out of the road when no one is standing next to it?

    Hey Zak - been watching your videos for about a year (and just bought your book) in preparation for our puppy which we'll be getting very soon!
    Quick question - I'm based in the UK; from the time you spent here, can you recommend any pet flow equivalents or really good pet stores? The few I've been to are lacking in variety and quality of products available!
    Thanks!

    How do you differentiate training the boundary- stay command, with a visually disabled puppy 16 weeks old? TY in advance! Awesome videos! Would you consider making a few videos in the future with puppies with disabllities?

    Hi Zak! I have been watching your videos for a few weeks now and following your app too and it's been so great in helping me with our 4 month old lab puppy! I am struggling with an issue that I couldn't find in your videos though. Every time I bring him upstairs to play on our carpet, he digs vigorously into it and scratches at it like crazy. He does this with any rugs laying out too. Why is this? How do I get him to stop?

      for sure. if you plan what rules you want your puppy to follow and enforce them from day one the puppy will learn and accept what it can and can't do way faster than if he has no boundaries and has to learn them from scratch later on.

    If anyone has a problem of keeping there dog out from under the bed and eating trash under there just get boxes of storage or just plain cardboard boxes, and but the under the bed and make look neat and only to where if you look under the bed you can see the boxes, it's helped me alot from keeping dog out from under the bed 🐼

    I save on gas and my biceps get a break from carrying 50 lbs of food all the time haha.
