The year 1802 saw not only the publication of the three sonatas, Op. 31, but also the composition of the Second Symphony and the writing of the Heiligenstadt Testament, a letter to the composer's brothers lamenting bis worsening deafness. Though the first sonata of the group has been overshadowed by the second and third, it was especially admired by the critic D.F. Tovey. While many commentators have identified literary models for Beethoven's sonatas, No. 17, Op. 31 No. 2 'The Tempest', has at least some grounding in a comment by Beethoven's associate Anton Schindler to a listener that he ought to read Shakespeare's play to understand the work. Tovey, however, has thoroughly dismissed such connections. The two rapid outer movements provide a counterpoint to the singing middle movement.
The Grammy award-winning pianist Daniel Barenboim has been active on the concert stage since the age of seven when he made his stage debut in his hometown of Buenos Aires. Well known for his work with the East-Western Divan Orchestra, a group of young Arab and Israeli musicians, he is currently the director of the Berlin State Opera, La Scala (Milan) and the Staatskapelle Berlin. Barenboim is described as "one of the few musicians in the world today who could accurately be describe as legendary".

Most pieces have a key and start the beginning with the key. This is in D minor but beethoven starts with a A major chord (A/#C) this just shows that this is one of the most creative sonatas ever. Now I know some other pieces do this but I love the way this sonata works. Thank you Barenbiom.
Genial!
Absolutely superb. Stunning!!! Blown away. His technique is just wonderful Superior to any recording I have ever heard before-play it over and over again.
I attempted this sonata years ago. It never sounded anything like this. I hang my head in shame.
Come on Carolyn!! Wilhelm Kempff and Emil Gilels much more colorful beautiful piano sound for Beethoven sonata no 17 than over-rated Barenboim!!
Daniel has this orchestral sound, each finger is a different instrument. He plays very ''slow'' in terms of duration, but he fills it. The same thing you have with Arrau.
Beautiful.
hermosa interpretación de Barenboim
This is by far the best Interpretation of this piece...
What do u think about Lisitsa's? I personally think her interpretation for this piece is also spectacular, especially the 3rd movement. Both of them are amazing.
@@rossy3lo Lisitsa's doesn't have enough energy.
@@rossy3lo i agree, her version with gopro camera is wonderful
Maybe just second to Glenn Gould's. Or lower.
@@DanielFahimi I just listened to it and I feel she really didn't bother with dynamics.
Hermosísima. Maravilloso su concepto del ritmo...!!!!!
wonderfully handled..god bless...
J'aime beaucoup cette mélodie ces un virtuose du piano c'est un grand pianiste...

That music will forever be in the walls of Palais Kinsky . . .
Perfect playing!
Amazing!
Admiración absoluta 🎶
Lovely 🌌
EXCELENTE!!!
he is best on piano and even on orchestra wht a maestro
XD
*OGNI SINGOLO VIDEO* porcamiseria
cavolo se hai ragione
hai ragionissima, video inguardabile,peccato.
Barenboim
Buenísimo!
Magistral
18:38 Allegretto
12:00 he meets the Flintstones
Well, that blew my hair back! I mean, he even looks like Beethoven! Only annoying part was that for the most part of the third movement, the camera just focused on his face! Did the camera man nip off to the loo? I want to watch his hands, man, to see the artistry not the perspiration on his nose!!
how he can play 30 minutes non stop
