  • In this video I show the failed parts that caused a Volkswagen Golf 1.4 MK 7 5G1, BA5 1.4L CMBA TSI to both leak coolant & overheat resulting in getting stuck on the side of the road.
    The water pump drive belt failed and I show the parts that were needed to resolve this issue.

      Gerard is this water pump thermostat assembly the same for the 1.5 TSI engine too ? I’ve the latter 1.5 engine and it’s leaking from same place despite only having 25 k miles. What causes the leak ? Perished gaskets ? or does the housing warp ? I can source replacing gasket, I don’t want to be throwing money at a new housing if it’s just gaskets that perish. I’m less advise.

    Hello,
    I have a 2014 MK7 golf with the same problem.
    Started the car today and the coolant check light came on
    Took a look and it was below the Min mark and i saw coolant on the transmission .
    I would like to know if it’s easy to change the waterpomp and the little belt? Or do you need special vw tools?
    Thank you.

    Question, what part actually displays the engine temp at the dash cluster?
    I am trying to figure out my issue if its the fans/ temp sensor or thermostat!?
    And is there a temp sensor at the pump housing area!?

    Hi , Thanks a lot for the video. You earn a subscribe. My Audi A3 water pump housing is leaking, just wondering should I replace the whole housing with a water pump or just rubber seals? Its Audi A3 2015 1.4 CZEA engine, same as VW Golf 1.4

    Hi Gerard I wonder if you can help, I have a 1.4tsi volkswagon engine, the diagnostic code is showing water pump, the water pump itself is completely dry and has no issues, the only problem I have is the heat coming from vents into the cab is only hot when car is moving , when car is stationery or idle it just blows cold air, Q. Could the diagnostic code showing waterpump be the sensor on pump or thermostat? Appreciate your thoughts on this or could it be the heater matrix partially blocked.

    My mk6 2014 Jetta started giving trouble at 88k kms Expensive replacement! Very disappointed in my VW ... Maintenance was done regularly Car did not overheat nor become hot, but the engine started sounding louder and louder which had me take the car to a VW dealer ... I did not expect this type of a problem before 100k kilometres

    Hello Gerard. I am writing to you from Italy. I have an A3 type 8v 1.4tfsi model year 2013 with 85 thousand km. One of the first releases. I often check the coolant level and if I see leaks in the water pump side but for now everything is ok. Do you recommend replacing the pump and belt after 8 years of life and 85 thousand km? This morning I came across your video and thought "here it is perfect". Congratulations and thank you very much. Greetings from Italy.

    Yep, Scotty Kilmer absolutely hates these plastic housings going brittle with heat & age ....designed obsolescence 😨

    • @rudolphna54
      @rudolphna54 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Scotty is a hack and a relic. He acts like metal water pumps never fail, and they fail all the time. "Plastic" is a catchall term for dozens of materials with very different properties, and many of them are stronger, more durable, more resistant to heat/fatigue/corrosion than simple steel or iron.

      Hey. Did you fix it? I have a similar case. The fluid temp can drop as low as 60 degrees at idle when using heat a lot in the big cold weather. My fuel burn is also a bit higher. Oil temp also drops to around 75-80 degrees from 90 at idle.

    If the timing belt broke, didn't that damage the components of the engine, the pistons, valves etc

    • @CourtneyKarl
      @CourtneyKarl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It wasn't the timing belt, it's a much smaller belt on the other side of the engine that runs off one of the camshaft sprockets. The timing belt is on the other side of the engine

    • @JamzOs

      I was thinking same mate. Apparently changing the belt and pump at same time on these engines makes no difference as there both on different sides

    • @JamzOs
      @JamzOs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always thought you change them both together as the pump is usually located in the housing of belt

    • @Kal-pw9vl
      @Kal-pw9vl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JamzOs Yeah that's it mate. The dealer confirmed that the waterpump's on the right side of the engine. It runs off its own mini belt and doesn't have a regular change interval. I'm guessing you just change it if it fails.
