After making gravy this morning it was lumpy. So I googled how to make gravy and came across your channel. I tried it and it turned out great. First time trying to make homemade gravy...Thanks for your time showing people how to make gravy!
My mom never liked Brown gravy so I've always been used to making country style gravy. For the past 2 years now since getting married I have been struggling to make an edible brown gravy, lol! This video was exactly what I needed!!!! Simple and delicious! I added soy sauce and cube steak and served over rice. I can't wait to make this again and add mushrooms. Thank you so, so much!!!!!!
I was scared to make gravy for so many years. Now that I know how to make it, I'm so proud of myself lol. I usually make white gravy for chicken fried steak, but this recipe looks the same except you let the rue cook longer. And use broth instead of milk. Thanks for posting!
Thank you Lavonne I never knew it was that easy I fallowed along with you and mine came out perfecto with no lumps my potatoes have never been so happy
Thank you for showing how to. Homemade gravy was one of those recipes I never learned how to until my adulthood. My Sis in the Lord Ms. Bridgett showed me!! It's good that the younger and even the older folks can learn. Gravy makes food more delicious! Bon appetit!!🌝💜
Thank you for this simple but informative tutorial! I made this tonight and with some patience and attentiveness, it came out just how you would expect brown gravy to be. I added chopped onions, mushroom and a little bit of soy sauce. Best gravy I've made, hands down. Merry Christmas ✨
Thank you so much for this video! I've never made brown gravy (I don't like it) but my husband loves it! So if I'm gonna make it, I'm gonna do it right!! Excellent video dear! 💕
I came looking for a brown gravy recipe and found your video along with several others. I like yours the best of all of them. I will be trying it this evening. Thank you sweet
Liked and subscribed. Watching helped me realized there's many different combinations to make gravy. You cooked it really well, thanks for showing. You're awesome!
Brady Hight I am so glad you enjoyed it. Remember you can always add things to it such as mushrooms or tomatoes or heavy whipping cream or milk to make it creamier definitely you can add sautéed onions or peppers as well
@@danielfenton4230 - Maybe his wife likes to cook? Maybe he wants to share a recipe with his wife to show her how to make a new food for herself? Damn so many people have a stick up their ass these days.
i can't get away with cooking with a white shirt on, LOL. I get messy in the kitchen. This btw is one of the best gravy videos I've seen. Gonna try this recipe tonight.
In Canada and in the north east of the states there is a dish called poutine and disco fires which consist of fries (chips), gravy and cheese (Mozzarella or cheese curds). It's so good.
Oh okay, I see want Ive been doing wrong since i have been making this. I use more oil than anything. THANKS FOR SHARING THANK GOD I CAN COOK OTHER THINGS
How long do I cook the rue? One cup of chicken broth? How long the rue and broth are cook together. Do the oil need to be hot when I add the flour. How long should it take me to make brown gravy?Looks delicious.
i kept waiting for you to add W-sauce..............lol...........i never forget that stuff, instantly a lot more flavor.............nothing else.................good job..........can smell and taste it from here (Pahrump,Nevada)...................love your videos..............ray
Out of all the other gravy recipe videos I've seen YOURS is the best! I look forward to trying this recipe out for Thanksgiving. God bless you and thanks for posting. #NewSubscriber👍🏽
I was always taught to use butter for the roux but this looks like it turn out well so I’m going for it *fingers crossed* couldn’t you brown the flower before mixing with the oil to get rid of the flour taste or is it preferred to brown it in the oil?
This is the best gravy I have seen that didn't start from fried chicken. Too many other sites are adding all types of spices and bullion which is loaded with salt. I grew up with Southern cooks and stood beside them asking questions. I was told to brown the flour and fat until it almost burned. That was your flavor. Then, add a glass of milk and water. Stir. That makes the real gravy.
I would never use oil to make gravy. because it tastes terrible. Use meat fat or butter for heaven sake’s. Another suggestion is to get a half a pound or a quarter pound of beef scraps and cook them in your pan in a little bit of fat until they leave a lot of fond at the bottom of the pan then deglaze it it’ll red wine and cook it down or with broth and then add it to your roux and make real gravy. Weston oil gravy? ooooo
hello I finally made it. It did turn nice brown color and there was no lumps. well I added salt pepper. but You know I must not let it cook that long cause it tasted like flour . I will try again
my problem is “burnt tasting gravy”. Cooked flour in butter on medium low; constantly stirring. By the time it was brown; it tasted horrible. What did I do wrong???
Maybe your medium low should have been lower. Did you use the correct measurements? Did you taste it before you added the broth or did you taste it after everything was done?
Been watching gravy videos all morning getting ready for dinner tonight. This is definitely one of the better ones I’ve seen, thanks !
Enjoy Let me know how it turns out
I just made this gravy. The recipe is so simple, minimal time yet delicious. (I added mushrooms) Thank you!
I like how she's just doing of everything in a calm manner... reminds me of my grandma
I do it too

The happiness she experienced when she tasted that gravy was so pure and refreshing
Ok, this explains why I’ve never enjoyed MY gravy. This is nothing like what I was doing. I gave up on making it. I’m going to give this a try.
I planted potatoes a long time ago and now I’m doing mashed potatoes with gravy and this video just made me more inspired to make the gravy (I’m 14)
I was scared to make gravy for so many years. Now that I know how to make it, I'm so proud of myself lol. I usually make white gravy for chicken fried steak, but this recipe looks the same except you let the rue cook longer. And use broth instead of milk. Thanks for posting!
👍🏽That’s the way I was taught to make it except my mama usual use greased she had used to fry chicken or whatever she had fried.
Thank you so much, the gravy turned out AMAZING!!!
I used to love when they would add the onions and fried chicken back in.....grits and gravy in the morning
Miss Lavonne,This was the easiest recipe to follow and it was delicious! Much love ❤️
Thank you Lavonne I never knew it was that easy I fallowed along with you and mine came out perfecto with no lumps my potatoes have never been so happy

Kitchen Bouquet, a browning and seasoning sauce will give gravy the perfect dark brown color.

Thank you!! Will show my wife. She's Moroccan and just moved to U.S. and they aren't familiar with gravy, let alone making it.
Make it yourself lmao
The Moroccans have survived long enough without gravy. They already have cuisine locked down you cant teach them anything.

Chips and gravy. Love it. Thought that was only an Australian thing!!!

Thank you!!
Find out where Miss Lavone is gonna be a come Thanksgiving...and be near.
I don't use onion powder, I use crushed (into paste) garlic. Trust me that natural garlic flavour in gravy is so so so so yummy
Oh okay, I see want Ive been doing wrong since i have been making this. I use more oil than anything. THANKS FOR SHARING THANK GOD I CAN COOK OTHER THINGS
Love this!! Thank you for saving me a trip to the grocery store!
Thanks for watching
To make brown gravy it should taste good with brown things so I use beef stock. Why do you use chicken?
You can use either
Thank you for showing me the cooking process. Does this gravy gel in the refrigerator overnight or stay liquid?
Gels a little
How long do I cook the rue? One cup of chicken broth? How long the rue and broth are cook together. Do the oil need to be hot when I add the flour. How long should it take me to make brown gravy?Looks delicious.
The oil does not need to be hot when you add the flour. You should start a route for approximately one minute.
Lavonne, you're a queen!
I wish I had watched this video before trying to make brown gravy today.
That's my Big Sister! ❤

You can absolutely use butter

Lavonne, is there a specific reason why you used chicken broth opposed to beef broth?
No reason. You can use either
