I've been using a Mevo for almost 2 years to stream church services. The best capability for how you want to use it is to broadcast using NDI into OBS. I also love the built-in AI. The camera is actually a 4k camera but focuses on an HD segment where the speaker or person performing is. Makes it much easier to show the entire front of the church but focus on the speaker no matter where he is.
@@gaspoment Connect with the app, in settings you can turn on NDI functionality. From there, add it as an NDI camera in OBS. I haven't done this (yet), but that's what all the documentation I've seen says. I don't know if it turns off the AI functionality or not.
I wrote this, and today I had problems with the Android app connecting from my cheap Walmart tablet, but my phone worked ok. Just didn't reconfigure the AI correctly...
I love my Mevo, I’m almost 2 years in with it, (pre-Logitech) I live on the NDI. Major co-sign on the swappable lenses, I’ve been harping them for that since the drop.
Man I’m so glad one of my favorite channels FINALLY reviewed this product. I was debating for so long either the Mevo 3pack or the Sony zv-e10. Your concerns about this were the same as mine! If they did a 1080 60 or 4k it’ll be amazing and no need for a PC. Hope they listen to your call and make version 2 exactly what’s missing 🙏🏼
I've been wanting these so bad but the lack of alerts or any form of overlays was the main thing keeping me from ordering like 9 of these cams (for 3 different athletic departments), so I agree and I would love them to add streamlabs functionality. Add that, bump the cams up to 60 fps and offer some form of lens swapping (which i didn't even think of but holy hell, that would be awesome!!) And these cams could be a game changer in High School Sports streaming. Awesome Vid as always my guy! Love the quality you put into your vids.
I work IT in a school district. These are great for broadcasting events. The reframing and general higher quality makes them a great choice over what staff would do without consulting us (a cell phone in a zoom session, on a tripod).
I think these cameras are more oriented towards "non-twitch" users. Like broadcasting events or conferences where the alerts are not the main necessarily a big thing. And if a chat is on it could be monitored from a computer or another phone. Also since these doesn’t seem to be waterproof/rugged/idk what the I don’t take they were focused for creators on the go.
I've been using these in my stream setup for a while now as I can use them as webcams synced through NVIDIA & putting the feed in my PC's OBS wirelessly but also allowing me to detach and run streams for clubs and things around my university.
Lightstream is a great way to go with mevo cam. And you can have it all.. alerts, chat and all things you are use to while streaming.. they have their own app as well
Mevo has been out for awhile. Logitech recently bought them but they always had terrible reviews on Amazon. Interesting to see a better review from someone who isn’t using it to stream their church events The reason nothing is streamlined is because Logitech literally recently just bought mevo and slapped their logo on it Also I believe the original price point for these cameras from Mevo was supposed to be $199 each and they’ve somehow managed to creep up to $400. Literally insane.
yes i can back up on this the Mevo were originally part of Livestream owned by vimeo then they passed to vimeo then if i remember correctly they almost went to IBM and now recently as of not even a year they were bought by logitech, they originally had the Mevo Plus wich was a decent camera at the time and then they released the mevo start a couple of months later i remember the price being $400 US for the plus and i think $200 US for the start when they were owned by vimeo so yeah the price has definetly gone up since then, i had the oportunity to work with the mevo Plus when i was doing school events for once and even doh it was great to me and a good product i like the more broadcast style of how we did things, now tomorrow i have the pleasure of working with mevo again for a local church with a friend of mine that needs help....
Also adding in here software and design of the camera wasn't by logitec was done by mevo (owned by livestream from vimeo) before being sold to Logitech; also i really hope they have a good future since i have a ton of logitech products from mices and keyboards to their Ultimate ears Speaker so yeah i wish them well with the mevo brand
@@neonclouds9295 at that point, using streamlabs on your phone for IRL streaming would be better unless you want multiple cameras. Which will set you back $400 each or $1000 for 3 I believe. Hopefully Logitech will develop future versions of these and bring all their tech together. I think it can be very promising!!! Just wouldn’t buy the version that’s been out from a different company for 2 years now.
These are great for church live streams! If I'm not mistaken this camera was made by Mevo and then Logitech came in the picture. Logitech to my knowledge did not make these design or software decisions. I'm hopeful Logitech will make a better model of this.
I'm comfortable with it being mentioned already, but I'm pretty sure that this can be done with a PiZeroV2 and a PiCam, add a battery and either buy, build or 3d print a custom case, that can allow you to add a washer around the camera path for a magnetic mount lens adapter for wide/telephoto options. Jeff Gearling shows how to set up something like that with a Pi3 from before the Pi0V2 came out, and there are already several different lens options. As one example my 3d printers have PiCams pointed at them on the OctoPi systems, that serve a web view of the camera stream that I can add as a browser source to my OBS scenes. To do this as a multi-cam studio set I could easily set up several of these, treat them as individual scenes, set up a scene that fits between two as part of a transition, etc. At the moment I don't think I'd want to try that (in my setup) with 4k streams, but with lower res for a face cam view within a overall stream, that would work. Though at the moment I'm feeding a Cannon Vixxa camcorder hdmi out into a capture device for my own face cam, and I suspect the camera quality is better. Or perhaps not. it's an older camera after all.
That transition at 0:13 seconds was smooth af. I think that you should of seen if you could of strapped the cam to the dog to have a doggo point of view. Not having to worry about a pc to stream would make it really easy for artists like me to stream out in public while doing landscapes or at conventions just like you spoke about. Any way as always great video.
These cameras are prohibitively expensive for anyone just starting out but there's a good chance these obvious issues with the ui could be fixed easily down the track.
I would like to say from a math teacher we do teach financial literacy but we are limited to what we can teach. For example for 8th graders where I am located they learn about compound interest and simple interest. When it comes to investments I feel like that’s somethings schools don’t need to focus since there is college and trade schools for learning about investments.
Gotta say, while a product like this is not my thing, It's really cool to have a content creator in this small niche that pumps out quality on par with the full-frame camera community. There's something huge to be said about dynamic content and scene changes. Honestly it kinda highlights the limits of gaming streams (which you touch on near the end of this vid).
Mevo development has been pretty relentless in the last 2.5 years since I bought my first Mevo Start. Since Logitech acquired Mevo, I have been anticipating more integration. My use is more conference and event related and for that it is practically perfect.

Two different departments as Mevo wasn’t initially a Logitech Ip … they were absorbed. Streaming via NDI is a winner for me … but like you said I wanna be irl and still have my alerts / interactions of my pc without rtmp
Great review :) This is the first time id seen this gadget and i gotta say the first thought that crossed my mind was how awesome that would be for my cooking channel. It does definitely look like its more meant for videos that can be edited versus live streams mainly due to the lack of alerts , chat and stuff .

That qould be really cool like you said to use at events and other streams that have groups of people. I think to take that even further it would be cool to have an extension in the player that let's individual viewers decide what POV they want to watch. Like someone wants to watch a game showcase in one pov, while someone else wants to see like an artist area in the same convention
I’ve been wanting to add multiple angles to my show for a while. I’ve toyed with the idea of getting some low cost camcorders, but I’d have to figure a way to switch camera angles easily. The fact that these all pump into an app that allows provides switching capabilities is nice. I’m a bit disappointed that it seems these can’t be used in OBS without using an RTMP server because I have a pretty extensive audio setup, and I’d hate to have to give that up for extra camera angles.
As a fellow dog owner, I just need to say that your dog should be on a leash pretty much everywhere in Utah unless you're in an off-leash area like a dog park.
I was always wondering about these cameras. Ive read negative things but seeing it in this video I may just hold out until they release an updated version
I use 3 Mevo Starts at Church just he way came out of the Box (It takes some learning) Hit the "T" to the left to see some videos the 2nd was not with a Mevo.
I've had the Mevo Plus for awhile. You need to have a really well lit space for these cameras. They were really meant to stream on Facebook when they were designed.
Found this review on the Mevo web site. Great job. Wondering if you have continued to use Mevo and if you can do an update. Meanwhile I'll check for more current reviews.
Is this something that I could use at home for camera angles in a kitchen for cooking streams and have it connected to my obs that is running on my PC?
We use 3 Mevo starts over NDI in Ecamm. You could use Webcam mode too. The problem with these is their own software. Since the latest updates video freezes and doesn’t run smoothly.
Well, in Logitechs defense they just purchased Mevo not that long ago. I believe the Mevo start and definitely the original Mevo camera were out before Logitech bought them.
fix for the device not being able to be used (or just only have one device) multi-window /split screen works. although, it leaves you with very limited window space, but, at least a work around hahah.
Harris too be honest maybe something you can look into is 3D printed gear or fixes for some of these issues like the lens issue. Looks like an easy design to do.
While true I feel that makes the purchase worse. If it's easy enough for people to create it as a consumer it could have been reasonable enough for them to have created this with that in mind considering the $400 price tag.
This is a great start. I do think the price point is really high for what you're getting. Without being able to link this up with OBS it would be a no for me. I hope in the future there are options out there like that though. It would be a lot of fun to have a multicamera setup in a stream room, but then the ability to grab and go on the road for a stream.

Multiple people have already mentioned it, but running NDI is still the most optimal solution. Easiest and most powerful way to run remote cameras for OBS sources. If Logitech could incorporate NDI into the app or the cameras, that would solve a number of problems.

if it will let me use obs (not slobs), and let me look at chat i think i'd be content for the most part. of course alerts, and other things would be great; but if i can interact that would make me happy!!!! it would help not only IRL streaming, but cooking streams as well.
A separate phone ooooor.... a dual screen/folding phone! Im pretty sure I can have the app and twitch on at the same time on my LG V60 dual screen. I bet that the more powerful z fold 3 and surface duo 2 phones can do it too! Ngl tho if I was to use a separate device I'd Most likely use a Samsung and use the dex mode. Have both the app and twitch windows side by side. Keep yout phone in your pocket... maybe take calls while streaming lolol
If you are live streaming and wish to navigate away from the Mevo app, on an iOS device the stream will only stay live if the camera is connected to a local network. Android devices will continue to stream. If your iOS device is connected to the Mevo cameras built-in hotspot and you navigate away from the app, the stream will end. If you anticipate needing to navigate away from the Mevo app during a broadcast, we recommend configuring the Mevo camera to connect to your local Wifi or Ethernet.
Dumb question, would a raspberry pi handle the streaming end? At least to TH-cam or twitch? If it's Bluetooth connect to that then tether to the phone for chat and alerts on the phone. Just an idea.

This is a great start. I do think the price point is really high for what you're getting. Without being able to link this up with OBS it would be a no for me. I hope in the future there are options out there like that though. It would be a lot of fun to have a multicamera setup in a stream room, but then the ability to grab and go on the road for a stream.
You can use OBS and NDI with this camera

I see this and think what would Elgato do???? I think they make something like this but better.
Multiple people have already mentioned it, but running NDI is still the most optimal solution. Easiest and most powerful way to run remote cameras for OBS sources. If Logitech could incorporate NDI into the app or the cameras, that would solve a number of problems.
There actually is NDI HX support included with the cameras. I haven't tested myself yet, though.
The Mevo Start can absolutely connect via NDI!

if it will let me use obs (not slobs), and let me look at chat i think i'd be content for the most part. of course alerts, and other things would be great; but if i can interact that would make me happy!!!! it would help not only IRL streaming, but cooking streams as well.

A separate phone ooooor.... a dual screen/folding phone! Im pretty sure I can have the app and twitch on at the same time on my LG V60 dual screen. I bet that the more powerful z fold 3 and surface duo 2 phones can do it too!
Ngl tho if I was to use a separate device I'd Most likely use a Samsung and use the dex mode. Have both the app and twitch windows side by side. Keep yout phone in your pocket... maybe take calls while streaming lolol

If it had good software, then it would have to have an Elgato label on the box, not Logitech.

Can you get around the issue of being trapped in the app if you split screen it or use it in a pop out screen that android phones can use?
If you are live streaming and wish to navigate away from the Mevo app, on an iOS device the stream will only stay live if the camera is connected to a local network. Android devices will continue to stream.
If your iOS device is connected to the Mevo cameras built-in hotspot and you navigate away from the app, the stream will end.
If you anticipate needing to navigate away from the Mevo app during a broadcast, we recommend configuring the Mevo camera to connect to your local Wifi or Ethernet.
Dumb question, would a raspberry pi handle the streaming end? At least to TH-cam or twitch? If it's Bluetooth connect to that then tether to the phone for chat and alerts on the phone. Just an idea.
