Thank you for writing it. It was wonderful and I have a 3.5 year old and constantly dreaming of taking her out of school in 4th grade - I’ll probably be an AT 2030 hiker if the stars align properly. I dream of the trail and I wanted to congratulate you on the book and the success and cheers to your continued growth as a father, husband, and family Ben! This brought tears to my eyes. First of all, what an amazing feat. But more importantly, hearing Rainier say that he accomplished his goal and he knew he could do it...what more can we want for a kid? What a beautiful story.

It was crazy that the police kicked the kids out of the park after dark but had no say in the little guy running back and forth on the street, from a safety aspect. Oh well, WAY TO GO Rainier, you proved to yourself that you can do anything you put your mind to!
Congratulations Rainier!!!!!! I've never been at a 24 Hour race where kids weren't allowed to be in the park throughout the whole race. And the unsanctioned races they were even allowed to be on the course with family members. I think the cop was just making up their own rules because of their own personal opinion and to do with a law!
Why does 26 miles on a road seem so far? I bet if you were to put Rainier on a long distance trail he’d be crushing 26 mile days without a problem. Congratulations Rainer!! (& Dan for raising a such a wonderful kid)

I'm sure it's a liability thing for the race organizers. Probably a good idea, too. Not every 6 year old is Ranier! Maybe they should make an exception if you've completed the Appalachian Trail 🤣
Everybody is so coddled these days. If things keep going in this direction pretty soon adults will have to wear helmets by law just to walk down the street.
@@toadlguy The under sixteen rule is supposed to apply to unaccompanied children. Not children with parents. If they have parents with them and the parents aren't being abusive then it's nobody's business what time they have their kids in the park as long as the park is open. What has this country come. to.

When did age discrimination become a thing at parks?

Is it written in law or are the cops just making up their own rules?
I am guessing some fat unhealthy do gooder reported that a kid was exercising and the police felt pressured to make up that rule.
