Re:Nox sensor. Thanks for the video. It is very helpful. The thing is, I sat down for a minute and realized there was no need to remove the nox sensor as i have 410km on my truck, so it's tight. Just take the whole elbow out with the sensor/cable and move it off to the side. There is enough cable once you cut the zip ties that it can sit on top of the steering linkage.
Wish this video was up a few days ago. Just replaced my turbo on 2016 RAM 3500 with a tow master from Thoroughbred Diesel. Had to fumble my way through it. Got it done but I will say the fleece cheetah drain tube is an absolute must have.
Great video!!! watched it a few times and just finished swapping mine out. I saved a little time by not removing the NOX sensor, just undo the 2 clamps and take the elbow out the side and set it on the suspension. the only other thing I did different was the bottom cooler line, if you massage the heatshild a little, you can get a 7/8" socket on it to undo it. all in all, one of the best if not the best video for this swap!! thank you!!
Great video helped so much. But, I found if you remove the compressor housing you have good access to the lower lines and you don't have to raise the engine 2015 Ram 2500
Good evening sir. First, thanks for an incredibly useful video. I'm at the point of lifting the engine up 1" on the passenger side to clear the turbo studs and found that the engine does not pivot upward. Engine mount bolt has at least 1/8" of clearance on each end. What are the possible causes? Thanks in advance for your reply!!!
Thanks for the answer! Turbo installation was very successful, thanks to your video, no leaks, great performance etc. FYI- I loosened the transmission shock mount bolts and it came right up. My next move would have been the driver side mount bolt as you suggested. Thanks again! B
Great video, going to be doing my turbo soon. Recommend linking your products and listing your tools used used in this video. It makes it easier to locate them.. As I cannot locate the down pipe gasket at 1:01:30 you spoke of having on your site.
Wade I’ve been watching your videos for a long time because you use to have brown hair when to gray and now it’s white, this job is tuff on a old dude . Ha Ha and Iam 68 and tiny bit of gray .
I feel like those manifold stud holes are to tight on all of my imports that have had that issues I take a drill and clean the holes up to get rid of the resistance, also yes I own a 2013 cummins so what I wonder would there be an issues with doing the same on the manifold of the truck seems like it would make siding the turbo back on and off much easier
Good job Wade, have all new respect for you. Everything you said is true Put performance exaust manifold on my 2018 Ram 3500, much easier with emissions removed.
So I put this turbo on my 2018 ram. Everything went smooth, Turbo works great. I installed the fleece drain tube with no added gasket at first( looked like it’s what you did in the video). About 5k miles it started leaking oil. Yesterday I took it off cleaned everything up and added a gasket with a fine line of RTV( used high temp red) … still leaking. I’m going to attack it again this weekend. Any advice as to why it could be leaking? Was going to try a new gasket with oil resistant RTV.
Same thing happened to us. The drain tube does not require another gasket, as there is a recessed o ring in the flange. The first kit we had the bolts in it were too long to make a good seal, you might want to check bolt length. If you need help on this just give us a call.
Truck setup will determine the HP capabilities of the Cheetah. This one, for the 13-18 Dodges will support up to 700 HP (with the right modifications).
You talk about the coolant banjo bolt reinstall being the qorst part. Woulent it make it easier to run that down after placing the turbo in the bay but before attaching? Or does thqt create clearance issues when bolting it up?
You nailed it, and I really wish that you could do it that way. The damn coolant line is only so long and its length and position really only lends itself to being installed once the turbo is at its final resting place, if that makes sense. Chasing the line to hook up at the other end is worse in my opinion.
Recalibrate VGT, did a kill test and number 1 was no change to idle or 900RPM Is there anything else I can check before I tear down, to make sure u replace what needs to be done
The only way to do it without pulling the manifold and the turbo is to lift the motor. If you take the manifold out and want to deal with the 12 gaskets that are behind it also, you don't have to lift the motor.
Been trying for an hour to get the bolts in on the bottom of the turbo to the fleece oil drain tube. Only way I can see to line up the bolts is under the truck with an extension. If I remove the passenger front tire will I be able to access it?
My Brother how are you doing there with your new Dodge , l am impressed how well and details you explained heviting on, l thank you very much , l do have 1999 Dodge Diesel 2500 , l am going to put a turbo like one but much older with not Egr , God bless you my brother your the best to explain step by step uninstall to put back together l thank you very much for your well video!
@thoroughbreddiesel did you do anything special for first startup with the new turbo? Some recommend unplugging the injector harness and turning the engine over multiple times for 10 second intervals to get oil pressure at the turbo before first startup. Then plug injector harness back in and start the truck. What do you typically recommend?
We recommend pre oiling the turbo, we also recommend an oil change when changing a turbo. And for that, we change the oil right before changing the turbo, so that the truck doesn’t have extended times without lube.
Have a stock 16 ram 3500 if I upgrade to this turbo do I need to reprogram, tune, flash anything? Have a actuator code and figured I'd up garage the whole thing not much more to do so
No reprogram necessary with this turbo and that’s the one of its best features. But the truck runs so much better with tuning that really takes advantage of the performance turbo.
It’s a snap on 3/8 ratchet 14.4 volt. I really do like the ratchet, but I haven’t had very good luck with these batteries. I know a lot of guys like them but I haven’t been very impressed. Great ratchet though.
I was looking at the 3000 because you put it on one of the trucks I got on the web and it has a lot of bad reviews it looks like 90% of people likes the s300’s what do yea think
Just finished getting mine out. Watched this video step by step and followed to a T except that I did remove the battery tray and therefor didn't have to disconnect the alternator. I also opted to remove the coolant line from the block instead of dealing with the tight area under the turbo near the oil drain tube. Can't thank you guys enough for this video! I just had my mechanic install a fleece cheetah on my 2017 cummins 2500. I feel like I have some pretty good turbo lag till about 2000RPM. Then the truck shoots off like a rocket. Any chance you guys have some real world numbers for what boost should be? I feel like I can no longer maintain 70mph pulling my utility trailer in 6th gear as the rpms are too low and don't build much boost. Stock turbo always had power when requested. Thanks!
There will be SLIGHT lag between the Cheetah and the stock unit on the bottom end, but much better mid and top range. Any chance you have a boost leak? Check the manifold gasket at the turbo.

6 hours to install and a difficulty of 8 out of 10 is not in my thinking a “drop in” part.
I would not call that a 8 out of 10 job. 8 would be like a cylinder head. 10 would be a motor disassemble.

I just did mine by myself and it went up after jiggling a few times. Maybe lucky
Do you have to Jack or lift engine on a 2019 ram??
The turbo is angled on those trucks and doesn’t have to be lifted.

Had a technician tell me if i take the battery box completely out then the turbo will come out without lifting the engine. 2017 ram 2500. I this true
Lifting the engine has to do with the stud clearance. Some techs take the battery box out. I don’t like to as I lean on it quite a bit.

I do have one question, at 1000rpm I have a rough idle, any ideas?
Any codes? Check codes and look at actual vs. commanded fuel pressure. I don’t think its turbo related but we can help you figure it out.
@thoroughbreddiesel no codes. It's a 18, so I had to order gateway bypass, to check injectors and calibrate vgt module, should be here this weekend
Recalibrate VGT, did a kill test and number 1 was no change to idle or 900RPM
Is there anything else I can check before I tear down, to make sure u replace what needs to be done
Is lifting the engine absolutely necessary? Could you put a tool list needed for this
Lifting the engine is a must unless you jack up the motor from underneath. You will need to do this so the turbo clears the studs when it comes out.
@@thoroughbreddieselI’ve seen videos that did not do this step.. Going to be working alone so anything to make this easier the better.
The only way to do it without pulling the manifold and the turbo is to lift the motor. If you take the manifold out and want to deal with the 12 gaskets that are behind it also, you don't have to lift the motor.
It’s easier to pull the manifold with the turbo as one unit.
