First watched him via satellite in Scotland when I was three and on Guam too, on and off on then WDVM 9(later WUSA 9 late 1985-present) back in the states on and off. Then WUSA 9 semi-permanently 1990/91-present when dad got out of the USAF Reserves.

Johnny Olson and Rod Roddy were the best announcers for TPIR. Rod was really the only announcer that had the energy and voice to take over for Johnny when he passed. I also remember when Rod announced for Press Your Luck and loved him from there as well. Since Rod passed, it hasn't been the same. Since Bob retired, the show itself hasn't been the same. Don't get me wrong, I like Drew Carey, but he's no Bob Barker. Rest in peace to Johnny, Rod, and now Bob. They all will be surely be missed.
@@jerryjerald1450 well bob barker should have continued to dye his hair and not quit like he did in 1987, then i wouldn't have to say i'm glad he's dead.
Right? In his day the contestants and Bob had a good time. There was banter, conversation, and good-natured ribbing. Nowadays the games feel rushed, and there is almost no real interaction between contestants or the host. Everything is done at warp speed so the advertisements have time to run. I feel like the show itself is the break in between the commercials.
Funny thing from this episode is that after they introduced Punch-a-Bunch, Bob's picture on the $10,000 bill prop still had dark hair, so Janice took out some chalk and fixed it!
I remember first seeing Bob Barker with Gray Hair I was shocked as a kid and couldn't figure out why he went from black to gray suddenly. Then I was told it was because he was dying his hair. Well it became his trademark for the next 20 years he hosted the show.
Bob had dark hair the first 15 years and had grey hair the previous almost 20 years on TPIR! So, he has spent more time with grey hair during his legendary tenure on TPIR! I like the grey hair better, because when I started watching TPIR when I was a kid, he had grey hair.
I don't remember Bob with brown-red hair, nor do I remember Johnny Olson as an announcer. I didn't start really paying attention until 1990, when I was 9 years old. It is great to see these videos, though.
Oscar Vasquez SAME EXACT THING WITH ME. I remember staying home from school and my mom and I were watching this in her bedroom and I was like why is his hair white? Lol
I believe it was around October 1985. Bob recorded a tribute to him that played at the end of some of the episodes they had taped before Johnny's death. I always thought Johnny Olson was a great announcer and was sad when he died.
William, of the contestants, still has his backstage number attached to their name tag- 122. Hard to believe we've also gone from 64-year-old grey haired Bob to 90-years-young white haired Bob.
I saw this episode the day that it originally aired; I was 12 years old, almost 13 (which means I must have been home sick from school that day, or more likely, faking sick). I still remember the line about the "blind date last night." I'd been watching The Price is Right whenever I could since I was about 4 years old, and I didn't like the sudden gray hair at all, and I never did get used to it. To me, brown-haired Bob Barker will always be the quintessential version.
@HipsterDoofus100 how old were you in 1987? I am the same age as @MaximRecoil and can completely relate to this sentiment. Curious why you seem to be annoyed with the comment.
My boy, Bob, bid as close to 1 dollar without going over, passing at 99 years old. RIP BOB!
Rest in peace, Bob. You were an American legend.
The theme song ALWAYS reminds me of staying home from school during the week, and my mom making me lunch lol
Don't forget about watching it during summer vacation?
I certainly did. Great childhood moments.
Theme song as a composition holds up. What a great piece of music.
Quite possibly one of the most loveable and beloved personalities in all of television history.
He was so handsome! I don't care if he is gone. He was so distinguished!. I love it!.
RIP to bob barker. I’ve watched him since I was 4 years old and purposely missed school just to watch him. Best game show host ever!

An epic moment of monumental proportions. In the future, historians will categorize human history by pre-gray and post-gray Bob Barker.
The day Bob threw the Grecian formula away.
Bob Barker in so many ways showed us how to be an American gentleman what an American persona awesome
Pre-gray Barker had an edge to him that I missed later on.
Pre-gray was edgier and a bit more cynical. I preferred pre-gray.

He looked fabulous either way. He is a legend. 😊
From that episode on. Bob got a standing ovation with every enterance.
The one thing I miss about this era of Price is that Bob used to do monologues like that on most days before throwing to the first item up for bids.

I have been in Bob's presence four times.
Bob Barker is one of the few celebs who only looked better the older they got.
...like Johnny Carson.
He was a great silver fox! Thank you for all the amazing years Bob. You will be missed.
Well, in a dark time of game show communities everywhere; we CAN say this - at least the G.O.A.T. of 11am, Bob Barker, is still with us. 🙂

@bonchbonch
I remember when his hair was brown and when it changed to gray, white or whatever.
"As soon as I stopped dying my hair, there wasn't enough of me to go around." 😉
Bob Barker
The Bob Barker from my childhood, with white hair! RIP
Holy shit, I actually rememeber this! I was 4 at the time, and wasn't sure if it was really him at first! :p
Same here, I was 4 as well, and was watching this with my grandma, we were both shocked!
Along side, Johnny Olson. Who served as announcer for TPIR from 1972-1985
I miss Rod Roddy man!!!! Even though I was a toddler in '87
I miss these times... I was 5 sitting on my grandma's couch everyday watching this with her. 🤣
I still miss Rod Roddy all these years later.

I like how the opening prize is something as awesome as a sailboat just in case the hair didn't go over well.

Frank Wayne was still the EP in 1987. When he died in March 1988 that’s when.

The funniest thing I ever heard Bob say to a contestant was, "Please don't scare me like that, my hair is already white".
